It works. We care about Levy's play, and to have a friend of his who understands the game completely, as well as Levy's psychological makeup as a chess player, incorporates a deep insight into each game.

Edging can actually be a very powerful strategy, provided it is done in the correct scenario. If you start the game with 1. a4 or a5, or 1. h4 or h5, that’s too obvious. You can’t let your opponent know you’re Edging right at the start. It’s better to try to last longer and not go bust or lash out instantly, so developing moves such as bringing the knights and bishops out and castling are preferred. Once all of that is done you can begin your Edging session, and pawn storm. When you Edge, you want to make sure that everything else is done and taken care of already. There are far too many people, amateurs, who Edge right from the start without taking care of more important priorities first.

The experience of this kind of game lead to part of the understanding known as Hypermodernism. Look at Petrosian-Fischer 1970 match of the century or Vachier-Lagrave vs Carlsen where the pawns go up the board and Black counters around and behind the pawns to create counterplay. Fischer won as Black, but MVL won as White, so it can go either way. Levy's tension is natural because it can be very very difficult to coordinate over such an open board. Stopping counterplay was crucial, so once Black got B+Q or R+R+B behind the White pawns with the exposed White king, it was likely equal. The answer for someone pushing pawns that way is, as Naka said, trade away the counter-attack capable pieces. Pawns and space are nice, but checkmate ends the game. There are some occasions where you can attack a king to keep one side passive, but there are still risks to leaving those counter-attacking pieces on the board. Also see Fischer vs Petrosian 1971 cm last game where Fischer removed defenders and all counterplay, so got rooks on the 7th with B support and Petrosian couldn't fight them (one of my all-time fave games).

Idk if im the only one to think this. But 2 thoughts. Gorham is the entertaining one. Hikaru is much better at explaining why and what. With Gotham there are many moves that i become confused by. And even recaps sometimes im having to stop myself and just assume his move is the best move. With hikaru, he explains the common lines, then the best lines, then shows the current line taken. And idk. Just feel like i learn alot from watching him. Have played for years since i was a kid BUT only started learning/studying chess for about 1 year. I went from keeping up with the 900 bots to wreaking havok on the 1400 bot. And even was able to beat the magnus 13yo bot in the mangus app (no idea how good that is) and that was a hurdle.
