One thing I'd add in the emergency landing training is that when choosing a field, have them look very carefully for any antenna towers or power lines that may be in the area of the chosen field. Anyway, these videos are so much fun! It makes me miss being up in the air all the more.

It's always great to get those nice landings. I'm 27 years out of date, and just getting back into it... and I crushed a few landings the other day. (ballooned at the last second) It's coming back quick... but I'm mad at myself for how much I lost. I'm flying a warrior, and this vid helped me to "Study" the visual on the landing. Thanks.

C-a-b-c-d. Start with the Carb Heat, it’s a likely issue, it won’t hurt anything, and it’s FAST to do. If engine gets happy while you launch into the ABCD, you’ve fixed the problem first with one tug before getting too into all the other items. Would be a damn shame to wait til “Checklist items” to fix the issue with one pull. It helped me just last week and so glad I was trained C-a-b-c-d!
@h2oski12002 жыл бұрын
would be a shame to stall on climb out because you didn't lower the nose because you're fiddling with carb heat. I hear what you're saying, as this is a very slow, straight and level training session but train yourself to get the airspeed right all the time every time FIRST. airspeed first. you could easily say the same thing about the fuel pump. the issue 'could' be the engine driven fuel pump so why not click that on real quick. no sir, nail the airspeed first. it seems slow now because, well the dude is training. IRL you'll be doing 12 things at once.
@LewDixAviation2 жыл бұрын
I agree with airspeed first and finding a place to land before anything else. It could be a matter of seconds being the difference between landing safely or not. I get the thought process but I’d never teach or do anything before best glide and best field.

I would have asked the tower at 12:50 to "speak slower" as per the standard phraseology. PPS I passed my private pilot test, now just waiting on the paperwork to come through to fly. No temporaries around here in Australia unfortunately.

Fantastic episode Lewis. Currently a student at EGCB not far from your original neck of the woods. Although I’m sure you’d say wrong side of the M62 right? 😜 Been struggling to finesse my PFL’s so this episode was really helpful as I currently fly the PA28’s. It’s nice seeing it from a students perspective and how we don’t have everything nailed down too efficiently in the beginning. But great to see how the flow of the checks and radio calls worked in the cockpit, etc. Enjoying the series, look forward to the next one. Thanks, Chris. 👊🏻

Hey man love your videos. You seem to have a lot of fun without compromising good instruction. I realize you’ve been doing this for a while now. In your experience what would you say makes a good flight instructor?
@LewDixAviation2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad you enjoy my videos. I’d say a good instructor is one that is patient, and allows the students to fail. That means not taking controls every 5 minutes when they do something wrong. Let them fail and use words to coach them through. That’s what I try and do.

Get that man an iPad already:) I Know this video is old but Kevin said buy an iPad on day 1 of training. Said no one uses paper. lol Really helps improve the situational awareness as well. I still like to look at the map and line up lakes etc with the map even though I know where I am. I do hope you are "allowed" to tell us soon which airline you chose, each time I see a Lewdix video I keep hoping at least you will say which you picked even if you can't show us the actual training. At least give us an update when you start or when you will be finished and can reveal it:) Good luck!!
@LewDixAviation2 жыл бұрын
The airline thing changed. I addressed it briefly in a video. Everyone does use iPads now, but you have to know how to use paper first in my opinion. Once you’re proficient with paper, then I let you use iPads.
