Damn right! Civics and Taxes should be mandatory classes for our primary education system. As well as investing, stock market, banking accounts, credit scores, interest rates, loans, etc! How are these basic everyday survival skills for success in everyones daily lives not thought of as necessary things to teach our next incoming generation?

@coolioso8085 жыл бұрын
Civics is fine to be taught. People should know how their current government is supposed to run so they can be more informed voters. Anything that has to do with good education of the citizens of a country is often against the interests of the ruling elite. This is why there is a lot of shade and misinformation thrown around about climate change and environmental destruction, because it is in the interest of the major fossil fuel industries to keep profiting from their product rather than shift society to a cleaner, better way. As for taxes; probably should be taught in school, but more as a WTF Course, as in; why is this abstraction still a thing in a world of advanced technology and the capabilities of creating an abundance of the basic needs of survival for everyone? Why are we forced to concern ourselves with this illusion of money, markets, banking, credit, interest rates and loans when all we really need is clean air, food, water, shelter and clothing? Well, we have all that, but we have forgotten what a human life should be about: creating, exploring and contributing positively to society and the world. If we all had a basic floor to start on and we didn't need to be forced into boring, monotonous, dangerous labor just for 'income' so we can then afford the basics for life then we would truly have a more healthy society. Let's flip the power and authority on the 'job market' by giving everyone what they need for basic survival. Then, work isn't something you do for money, work is something you do to help others, to be creative, to pursue your passion and that can be more than just a 9-5 desk job, it can be helping out a needy family member, it could be repairing household items, or running a daycare without the need to earn an income for it because the work is worth the time.

My son just turned 9 years old. My daughter is 4 months from 7 years old. When my son was 6 years old, I was watching the news one night and Trump was speaking. My son looked at me with a puzzled look on his face. I looked at him and asked him what was bothering him, if I could help him. Without a second of hesitation he asked me, "why is our president such a moron?" I've made a point to not badmouth politicians in front of my children, I made a point to teach them about the system, and have respect for these offices, and to pay attention to what these politicians are saying because sometimes they will tell you the truth sometimes they will not, sometimes they do things that are in your best interests and will help people, and other times they will not. But it is our jobs as American citizens to pay attention to what is going on in our country. When he asked me that I stood up and I had to leave the room because I laughed so hard I almost peed. When I came back into the room I asked him why he thought the president was a moron, and I asked him if he knew what a moron was. He definitely understood the term moron and he gave me a surprisingly well thought-out answer as to why the president was and is a moron. Kids are paying attention, and If you think you can shield them from what's going on around them in the world you're doing them a disservice. Help them to understand, and help them to understand that when they get older they can and should try to make a difference, and try to help them to have hope and optimism, because one day in the not-too-distant future they will be running this country, and large parts of the world.

I remember it way back in my school days as to mean something being forced onto or someone imposing themselves onto a reluctant subject? I don't know if I was misinformed or missed the joke? As I'm from some remote place. I do enjoy to listen to the ever hilarious caricature of the president and I can assure you he's not my favourite person as I'm one of those from the Shithole region of the world, but I felt he might have been right grammatically? Allow me to defend Civics. I had this class, in Tulsa, in the fucking '60's mind you, and it was actually kind of essential. Stuff you actually should know. Somehow or another, I had the most bizarrely liberal education you can imagine. I had teachers, not indoctinators. And we learned stuff. We didn't have stuff shoved into our heads. Well, a little of that, probably. But mostly not. Sure a Bircher was invited to a class to talk and he handed out free copies of None Dare Call It Conspiracy, but he was boring and soon went away. On the other hand, I was allowed to review the book, The Graduate (yes, of the film) in Jr High. I wasn't even supposed to be able to even see the film at that point. I'm rather happy with how well the Tulsa public schools taught me, even though I was in the wrong end of the city.
