I don't care if you didn't get laughs in the room, I thought this was HILARIOUS!! You truly are an artist Mr. Black, and I deeply appreciate your comedy. You speak so much truth, with so much passion and put it in such a perfect perspective that you would have to be fuckin' brain dead not to laugh. You are SO correct about all of this, our country is in the shit-hole and its ALL due complete stupidity. The problems are simple, and its right in our faces. The part thats mind-boggling is how simple the solutions are. Thank you for this, and for continuing to speak about and poke fun the most important issues that we face today. You TRULY are one of the smartest people I have never met!!From one of your BIGGEST fans (who has sadly never seen you live but has listened to every single second of material I can get my hands on, including all your albums and your book) THANK YOU and KEEP KICKIN ASS!!

It's nice to hear someone, anyone, address the socialism issue forthrightly and accurately. Socislism as an effective movement hasn't existed in the US for more than a half century. Black is my age and what he describes in my life, how I grew up. What he says about the way things were is absolutely true. And yes, stupidity makes me mad as hell, stupidity and absurd behavior. I love comedy that makes fun of stupid and absurd.
@snowman374th9 жыл бұрын
You know pumping gas was a job uppity people didn't want their kids doing. But families grew up because of a man who did. Those are pretty much gone now, replaced by foreigners. Then it was the burger stand. Replaced by foreigners to. Then the ice cream parlor. That's still American owned & ran. I think you will find that all of these stereotype employments are being taken away by people who don't wanna be made fun of for working at one, and the parents who don't want their children working at one. But it's America being taken away, not just the jobs.

Like to see em try it with 300,000,000 people. It only works where the populations is low and the majority of people make the same amount of money. If history serves it failed in big countries like Russia and Germany and only works in China due to Military control of the people.

Matthew Frederick Examples of failed socialist regimes that are enacted on a large scale? And not failed due to a poor government or leader, but failed because of the system itself.
@THX1138A1009 жыл бұрын
Matthew Frederick Did you pay the hospital cost when you were born? Did you pay for your primary and secondary education taxes? Did you pay for your dental expenses. When you became eighteen did your family invoice you for the total cost of your room and board from birth? Did your mother invoice you for childcare and preschool education? Capitalism is based on the social family system; social reproduction is a totally socialist system and without it capitalism could not exist.

As a child, teen and young adult in the 60's and 70's I lived in a house paid for by my father. We even had a small swimming pool in the backyard. My dad bought me a new car every 3 years. I had nice clothes to go out on dates, parties and dances. I went to the movies twice a month and restaurants once a week. I went to the dentist three times a year. I could do impulse shopping for small expense items. I was on a band playing my own keyboard. My dad put me through college and I only worked summers getting the job after job hunting for about a week. Today I have LOST ALL OF THIS! All of it!

I do not understand how you're splitting those hairs, but in either case, if the Public Option had been offered, we could ALL enjoy healthcare that is unparalleled by what is currently offered. By the way, Federal Healthcare is a self-funded option that isn't the same for a paper pusher as it is congress. Those rules change per the employer.

The only problem is that socialism, as a form of government, does not include a middle class. Under socialism you have the exceptionally, filthy, unabashed RICH and the extremely, beyond comprehension POOR. The corruption that is inherent to socialism does not allow for any middle ground. As China, the US, Japan, and almost all of Europe have clearly demonstrated, only a hybrid system works, and even that is not, and never will be, perfect. How can an intellectual ever tout something that has failed on the scale of socialism? I do not understand that. Otherwise, I love Lewis Black, he sometimes makes a hell of a lot of sense.

To hear Lewis' story is also my early childhood story. Born in Southeastern Minnesota, , raised Catholic, I'm about three years younger than Lewis. The "Recreation Departments", the "Little Leagues", the YMCA "Youth Programs", from the 50's and 60's are no longer easily viable for parents with children. We had a shit load of freedom to roam as young kids and got into trouble sometimes. Exploring new construction sites, sneaking in to our local college tunnel steam heating and maintenance system, was somewhat exciting...lots of secret doors. The sense of real community is missing, and that's because the middle is being "Rubbed Out".
