Tutorial and lesson on how to play Lewis and Clark Tommy Emmanuel.
*This tutorial in no way compares with Tommy's personal instruction on his DVD "Emmanuel Labor" - watch and listen to the master himself. In no way can I play it exactly like TE.. I've heard no one play it just like TE except TE!
Let me know how it goes. Thanks, Ed

Terrific job, Ed! This is not an easy piece to play, and you performed it wonderfully. I am sure you must have spent countless hours practicing to be able to play it this well. I agree with you that no mortal being can play this song like Tommy Emmanuel himself. Tommy played Lewis and Clark as one of his encore numbers when I say him in concert at Chapman College in Orange, California back in December of last year. I was so inspired and moved by his performance that I drove straight home after the concert and immediately began learning to play this magnificent piece of music. I'm not nearly at your level yet; maybe one day I'll get there. Fred D. Anaheim, California

I've loved this song for years, finally got back to trying learn at least the basic melodic line. I still have trouble coordinating the bass notes, but I can get the general feel and incorporate it into my own style. I have tried to follow the tab in songster, but your playing and showing gave me a great boost and much more clarity.. Thank you so much! I am very self-taught, influenced a lot by Leo Kottke and John Fahey, but at 73 yrs of age, I find it challenging to stray too far from the finger memory I developed slowly over many years as an amateur while making a living otherwise. :)

Thank you very much indeed for making this video. I love Tommy's music and especiallly this songs makes me cry even though there is no singing. I think that it's good there are no pronounced words because it means that everybody can find different feelings and memories in it. You're a very good player.

Thanks for the great comment. I'm using a Fender Acoustasonic SFX The tall one. It's a beast and a lot to haul around, but I have not found an amp with the same kind of sound. I have it set with some delay, and reverb to match TE's sound. Video is with a Canon PowerShot. It's recording the audio with the onboard stereo mics. I agree with your assessment of Tommy's talent. Blessing on your and may your learning be productive and fun.

I might add... that the pickups that I have in my Crafter TM-035 are JJB 330 Prestige bridgeplate transducers. No undersaddle or internal mic. I attribute a lot of the sound to this pick up. K&K Pure Mini is about the same thing. The K&K might be a bit boomier. Nice thing with the K&K is that it has installation instructions.

What is your guitar and amp set up? Your tone is very similar to TE's and very bright which is what I aim for. Well done for this one, its a great rendition and close to TE's. I'm working on, and getting reasonable with Angelina, Cowboys dream, The diggers waltz, Papa Gearge, Amazing grace, And so it goes. Lewis and Clark to join soon too I hope. TE is a bottomless mine of productivity. I don't know how he churns it all out but I'm starting to pick up a few 'riffs' of my own. Keep it up!! IGK

Sir, your playing is really good. But there are quite a few mistakes and that's absolutely understandable. But I feel that you can easily correct those mistakes if you actually carefully listen to Tommy Emmanuel's version of the song and try to play it by ear instead of just trying to robotically copy Tommy Emmanuel's finger work. That's what ruins the song
