The song was written by Robert Fisher Boyce in a little town called Link. Link is about 10 miles east of Murfreesboro, Tn. He and Cora had several children my father said he started writting the song in the house but it was so noisy he went across the road and finished it in the milk barn. I didn't get to know him he died when I was a year old. Thanks for replying to the post my family appreciates it.

My grandmother's favorite song. We played this at her funeral in September. Someone said, "but that's a Christmas song?" I said, "it doesn't matter, she and I listened to it (sang by the Lewis Family) together over and over. I sure miss her. 😭😭😭

Never knew they did this song. Beautiful rendition. Can't understand why it never caught on well until Ralph Stanley did it in the early 70's. The Lewis Family has always been one of my favorite Bluegrass Gospel groups.
