How did they get inflation down, when it wasn't their fault it went up? Never heard a Tory explain that yet - you can say it as often as you like, that's still not an explanation, so when does that make any sense?
@daviniarobbins92986 ай бұрын
The inflation we had is their fault. It was caused by brexit. All the extra paperwork and the delays incurred was bound to send prices soaring. Inflation since 2021 has gone up 20% but you don't hear that. Oh no, you hear we got inflation down to 2.3% which is sort of true but that is only if you compare the average inflation rate in the last 12 months. It is spin and dishonest.
@swarming10926 ай бұрын
It wasn't entirely their fault it went up, but it was the Bank of England who got it down. I suppose if they'd spent wildly the BoE might have needed to use even higher interest rates, but that's a counter-factual

Predicting inflation would go down is like predicting the sun will come up or the tide will go out - it goes up and down over time. It’ll bounce as the negative, deflationary months of nearly a year ago drop off the 12 month rolling count as the next 4 months predictions for inflation are an average of 0.45% per month. CPI is measured with some weird stuff in it that lots of people don’t buy and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that the better measure is core CPIH which is still very high due to sticky service inflation. Betting the farm on growth instead of additional funding the public sector properly from the get go is a risk from Labour too so it’s not like either main party have nailed this.
