Thanks - this is so useful. I tend to use acrylic as an under painting as I prefer the finish of oil paints on top but I love how you’ve used the oil paints in a really subtle way. It’s the missing piece of the jigsaw for me!

Massive difference in the darks with the oil medium! I default to matte acrylic surfaces. This gives me a lot of ideas. Thank you!

The oil medium and paint will greatly improve the lustre and depth of colour over matt acrylic medium. Test it out on something first before going all in. you won't want to go back to matt ac medium though, I warn you!

Lewis, thank you very much for this video and sharing the process of using oils with acrylics. I have wanted to know how to incorporate the oil medium into my acrylic works for the very reasons you explained for a long time and was not sure how to do it. Receiving your email was a gift.

Thanks for the video. Just wondering if you are doing oil on top are there are times when if there’s a colour that you have mixed already on the palette and even though you will be using the same colours in oils, sometimes they do look rather different due to paint brand etc and acrylic vs oil colours ….How do you match the colours without changing it too much will that be a problem if you can’t get it right?.. might sound like a silly question ?.. thanks in advance🙏

Thanks for watching. All paints are different and I go for similar ones in oil and acrylic. The oil will tend to unify the surface, so it's not. a problem if they're not exactly the same. I'm not sure that's even desirable!

Hi did you seal the acrylic firsthand before adding the solvent? Lovely painting 😊
@LewisNobleArtist6 күн бұрын
No, the medium does that job too.

Hi Lewis, Thanks a lot for your demos.... One question : I've seen that alkyde medium was to be used with alkyde paint, not "normal" oil paint. Do you use alkyde oil paint or "normal" ones with your alkyde medium ? Another question : Can we dilute Liquin with white spirit as well ?.....
@LewisNobleArtist14 күн бұрын
I don't know who told you that. Alkyd medium is a fast drying oil painting medium. You could also use it with alkyd paint of course. www.jacksonsart.com/jacksons-oil-medium-fast-drying-oil-painting-medium-1-litre

Thanks for sharing this. I can’t use white spirit or turps, can I substitute one of the odourless thinners such as gamsol or shellsol-T? Thanks.
@DebbieAdkins-do6zv15 күн бұрын
I always do and it’s fine with alkyd mediums

Hi I'm sorry but I don't know having never tried it. You could reach out to supplier for technical info. www.jacksonsart.com/jacksons-oil-medium-fast-drying-oil-painting-medium-1-litre

Be careful with odorless mineral spirits as it’s called in USA. The smell is reduced but the toxins are not. In US the supplier will provide an MSDS identifying harmful ingredients and how to safely use each solvent.

Wondering though, when showing the artwork, do you still call this an acrylic painting, oil painting, or just mixed media??
@LewisNobleArtist14 күн бұрын
I usually go for Oil & Mixed media. Factual and cover the bases!
