Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

I've watched Lewis's videos and attended one of his courses, along with the late John Blockley Lewis has been a huge inspiration. After spending years trying to make my work not to look like John's I then had to work at it not looking like Lewis's and become mine. Lewis more than anyone has helped me obtain an approach and look that I am comfortable with, and is my own. Working in multiple layers and working with multiple tools etc has given me a huge freedom. Maybe the biggest thing I have learnt is not to be afraid of working over good bits if they are not relevant to the whole. Thanks Lewis you are a great teacher.

Thanks Peter, I'm delighted to have helped in some way and you're getting on well with your work. You're absolutely right that it's hard not to be influenced and find your own way. I try to give people the tools (practical & mental) to find a way to work that is their own. All the best!

I just joined your membership group. I have to say I appreciate how you "muck about" and break the rules and don't fuss with a palette or color mixing. It's refreshing and a reminder that I can do the same. Thanks!

Do you varnish your works? If so, how do you varnish works made with so many different materials?
@LewisNobleArtist
@LewisNobleArtist Жыл бұрын
If I need to varnish, I would always use an oil based one. Also in spray from so no to disturb any loose material.

@@LewisNobleArtist thanks for this tip! So does the oil-based spray varnish seal the oil pastels? I’m guessing an acrylic varnish wouldn’t work on top of the oil pastel? (And thank you!)

Would be easier to watch if you had a clean background...a clean table so it is. easier to see just the painting.
