Sketchbooks are where you find your ideas. In this video, I'm talking about the reason I do the the sketchbook work in the way I do.

Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

It’s an excellent method to collect your work and a bank of designs, shapes, marks and colours, for future reference, following on this idea from Lewis, I’m now on with my twentieth volume of approx 25 paintings per book.

I’ve learned a lot watching you and listening to you talk about your “why”. I also value my sketchbooks which are more studio journals than actual sketches. My question is why you’ve chosen to work on only one side of the page rather than front and back. It does keep the book from being too fat to close. Thanks for releasing some of your videos outside of your membership.

Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Just finished a collage using old patterns and printing photos onto tracing paper. The ink isn’t stable so if you use mediums on it then it moves but that in itself is exciting. Your videos have encouraged me to just try what pops into my head and not worry.

@LewisNobleArtist 1-What is your favorite brand of pastels to work with? 2- The medium that you use to glue the collage down- does it smear when you place the medium on top of the area or do you use a spray fixative to set the pastel that may be on paper beneath before you glue to prevent smearing? 3-If so, what brand fixative works best that you use and prefer? Thank you in advance
@LewisNobleArtist

1. I don’t have one 2. PVA glue 3. I don’t use fix.

Thank you for sharing. I always get energized to go paint when I watch your videos! I am signed up for your class in March and am very excited. Do you have any videos where you show how you approach the larger in-studio paintings and use the "sketches" in the process?
@LewisNobleArtist
@LewisNobleArtist 11 ай бұрын
The course in March is studio work from sketches. I also have the ‘Paint it Big’ workshop on my website.

Love these collage videos you do. Would love a video going through some of the sketch books, no commentary necessary. BTW how are you getting on with the framing equipment? 👍

Any inroads to reaction painting to classical music???

Not really. All stems from experience in the landscape.
