Painting @lewisnoble_artist
Photos @cyclopsrock
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

Exactly my point with the art supply shaming here in the USA. I think if you have creativity you can make art with two stones and a burnt stick! Thank you

Art supply shaming! It’s the same in any industry or hobby I guess, trying to sell you the latest, best thing. Art materials are consumables!

What is art supply shaming? Sounds bad.

@@boxerdogmum583 I don’t know where you are in the world but seems on many USA based KZbin channels and especially those with affiliates, they poo poo or belittle those of us that can’t or won’t afford very expensive art supplies. I believe history is wrought with art made of the most rudimentary of materials and creativity should be allowed to breathe with what some would consider substandard materials. It is the need for and freedom of expression that should be celebrated not the brand of the paint!

Thank you for not perpetuating the "art haul" consumption trend that seems to be far to prevalent on social media. We can create with limited supplies and an abundance of imagination 😊

Thanks for this! I was on the beach in Greece picking up rubbish with my friend and found a piece of charcoal - just a charred stick. I was so delighted with this find that I drew my hand and the back of my friend and these scratchy sketches in a lined school copybook are my favourites from the whole holiday :)))

What I find so refreshing about your approach is partly just this. I think as women we tend to collect and feel we need all the things. This is a more masculine way of doing things and provides a nice balance to our feminine tendencies, and perhaps the universal tendency to think if we just have the right stuff we will be marvelously creative and happy. I have collected so much but partly because I was trying to figure out what I was most interested in using. Still working on that but it's getting narrowed down slowly but surely.

It’s a general problem in the modern world to think that getting new stuff will make our lives easier/better. Enjoy your painting!

Bravo Lewis! You came here to Greece and was inspired by the wonderful sea and blue skies! I am now inspired after watching this to walk down to the sea and paint with what I have. Thanks for sharing. P.s. I had bought your lockdown book and it takes prize position amongst my art books!

It was a great experience painting in Greece! I really love those Lockdown paintings BTW it was an oddly peaceful time, with everything closed down and no one on the streets.

Love the limited choice! My brain gets overloaded at times, thank you for this! I have oil pastels, but when you use them over acrylics and you are finished your painting on canvas….do you use a spray fixative over your painting? Thank you for your time…love your work❤
