I’m going to show you what it sounds like in its different modes, and how you can get two different sounds from this 1 mic to create an amazing natural sounding kick drum.
When I first heard what this microphone could do, it absolutely blew my mind. Having the ability to record two separate tracks from one microphone is actually pretty clever. The Lewitt DTP 640 REX is a dual element instrument microphone.
It contains a dynamic and condenser capsule in one housing.
Today we’re going to use it to record a kick drum, but you can also use this bad boy on other bass heavy sources.
There are 3 switchable sound characteristics, and the microphone is in a cardioid polar pattern.
Because there are two capsules housed in this microphone it requires a 5 pin midi cable (that they supply) and it fans out into two xlr. So, like any standard mic, if you we’re recording two mics it would require two inputs.

Audio-Technica AE2500 was released around 2003, so the idea of 2 capsules was not "invented" by Lewitt. And it's a XLR5 cable, not a MIDI one.

The lewitt mic sounds great, but I don't think Lewitt was the first to come up with the idea. There's the Audio Technica AE2500, which was around first (2002), if I'm not mistaken. The Lewitt is a few hundred dollars more affordable though!

have the beta 52a, RE20, Heil Pr40, and DTP 640 Rex; different mics for different strokes; 640 Rex is best overall for kick imho.
