I am from the UK and my online 'friend' from Germany so its not even anything to do with us , one day my 'friend ' mentioned Trump and was furious , he said something ridiculous about Trump and i said " i think Trumps an arse but thats not true " he screamed at me and logged out and never spoke to me again . I had known him for 10 years and was very confused , i asked his friends what the hell happened and they said he had TDS and had gone deep into a rabbit hole recently. Still cant believe he never spoke to me again , he was a nice calm guy who never got angry and had never mentioned it before. Over those 10 years i had spoke to him more than anyone else and not once in those 10 years had we ever mentioned politics other than joking about brexit.

You're not the only person this has happened to. I lost a friend. A vlogger I watch, who I think has TDS, told a story about how he rejected a friend. I know a guy who lost a friend and he told me about two other people who lost friends. And now you. The friendships I had heard of before your story probably had an average length of around 20 years. What confuses me the most about this, is that they won and they're even more angry after winning. I've heard various reasons about this. One is that people with TDS fear that the election wasn't quite right and they actually lost. Another is that Trump opponents are so authoritarian that they can't tolerate alternative views. I find that people who get angry about things like this know they don't have a cogent argument and so they lash out since most people won't respond and they can feel like they won. But the level of anger that I've seen seems too extreme to make those explanations satisfactory. It's bewildering and rather sad.

It seems common for lefties to cut off ties with people who show any signs of being conservative. Trump is just the most obvious example. It's like a religion, someone disagreeing isn't just someone with a different opinions, they are a heretic and you have to show your righteousness and pureness by outcasting them. People on the right think people on the left are wrong, people on the left think people on the right are evil.

Anger and indignation create a dopamine rush. People who repeatedly do things they claim not to like are feeding off this hormonal hit. This is why it’s not rational. It’s no different to gaming or gambling.
@harborwolf22
@harborwolf22 Жыл бұрын
You know what's not rational? Ignoring facts and instead, listening to a fucking reality TV con man for all of your news. All Trump does is lie... This isn't a fucking debate. He lies constantly, and people like you pretend like he's not lying... Yeah, that's frustrating to people with brains, who can think and stuff.

I think it's primarily a form of intellectual dishonesty where an individual who has already made up their mind, chooses their favorite take and essentially backfills/cherrypicks arguments in attempt to construct a rational explanation, hoping to make the perspective they embrace appear like it wasn't a forgone conclusion.

Watching thoughtful people answer a question is a far different experience than watching those who already have "the answer". The terrifying part is that most folks don't even conceive the difference between the two. (*insert fav NPC meme here*). Really enjoy your work, Thanks!

I don't personally know the man, never been in his world, but I have thru his actions over the years grown a dis-like for him. That being said I believe we dwell on him to much, the problems of America are greater than anyone man. We should stop the incessant drivel of politics and start talking to one another as citizens of a "could be" great country. Lets focus on fixing our problems instead of blaming others. Thanks Kelly. Funny thing, the people who like and hate trump are both for the most part, a mirror image of each other. So disturbingly obsessed and willing to let it affect actual relationships over petty politics. For that reason alone is why I feel like the guy was just bad news. Then again someone had to report that news which brings us to the fourth estate. Always the underlying problem.

Flatscreen emanations number one addicting quality is tension. Look at all the comedy that is based on tense situations. Game shows are about the tension to perform or the outcome of random chance. Drama is almost all tension. Social media is fraught with tension. From just posting personal perspective in hopes of affirmation of one's ability to speak sensibly to heated interactions about subjects that the general population only has a vague notion of the reality of. All of this tension is derangement. There is no need to feel tense about any flatscreen emanations, but it does create tension. Trump is just a stereotypical person who only knows life to be tension. In a culture that propagates so much tension, he laid bare the utility and thereby the futility of tension. The world is suffering from derangement because in moments mistaken for repose, it engages is escalating tension.
