Yes & Coach Brosnan has turned them from good H.S. Runners into Great Runners. When you compare what Ryun, Lindgren, Virgin, Hulst and Pre did roughly 50-55 years ago, the Young & Sahlman brothers have already surpassed them in XC & the 2 mile & 5K times. Other than Hobbs Kessler's 1500 meter H.S. Record, all of the other H.S. records could be broken by the Young brothers who are now entering their senior year in H.S. Even the younger Sahlman is now entering his senior year and he has a shot at the 800 meter H.S Record.

Got to watch this live! I predicted 13:50ish beforehand, but seeing Lex run 13:43 shocked me anyway. #2 HS all time behind only Galen Rupp is incredible, and as a junior is even more insane!!! Lex is now #2 in the 3k and 5k, and I'm super excited to see what he's gonna do the rest of this season, and what they'll both do next year. Seeing a JUNIOR run faster than Lindgren AND Ritz did as seniors really shows how much hard work you guys have been putting in, and I'm glad we're able to see you guys document it. It wasn't even possible when Ritz/Rupp were running, and definitely not when Lindgren was. Seeing what you guys are doing has really inspired me to get back into running this summer, I got out of the habit in the last year when I went to college, but I'm getting back into it. Thank you guys for your videos and good luck Lex this summer and good luck to Lex and Leo in crushing records next year :)

If we put a 1964 H.S. Runner-Gerry Lindgren into a time machine and sent him to 2022, with all of the new technology in training, running shoes, mundo tracks, nutrition, altitude training, sports psychologist, and trained by Newbury Park Coach- Sean Brosnan, Gerry would be running a 13:18 5K & 8:20/2 mile & 3:55 mile.

@@richardmilliken8705 You don’t know that nor will we ever know. Please stop doubting young athletes.
@richardmilliken87052 жыл бұрын
@@averageenjoyer1690 The fact that Gerry Lindgren ran an 8:40 indoor 2 mile on a wooden floor track that was 11 laps to a mile and ran a 13:44 5K on a cinder track tells me all that i need to know as far as Gerry blowing the doors of the Young Brothers with no problem what-so-ever! With the new carbon plated running shoes and the super fast mondo tracks and modern training & nutrition, only god knows how much faster Gerry would run in 2023? This not an attack on the modern day high school runners. They simply are not in the same league as Jim Ryun & Gerry Lindgren! Their incredible performances during the 1960s, (roughly 60 years ago) will never be matched when you put them in a time machine to 2023 with their god-given talent and their ability and mental toughness to train harder than any High School Middle & Long Distance Runner to this current day. Hobbs Kessler, Steve Prefontaine, Lukas Verzbicas, and Alan Webb are the only H.S. Runners that are in the same league as Ryun & Lindgren.

He was actually asked about the Newbury Park runners after the race. This quote would seem arrogant and condescending if it came from almost anyone else: "13:40, 13:20, that's nothing in the bigger picture. But it's a good step in the right direction."

I hope the Young boys stay healthy and grounded because what each is accomplishing is truly incredible. Don’t let mind-blowing expectations prevent you from enjoying HS/college experience. Colin's 1500 was on pace for a 3:55 mile/3:54 1600. Alan Webb's mile record is 3:53 which he set at the pre classic also and it was a huge pr for him. If colin shaves off a few seconds, which I'd say is very possible, he could have the record, especially since the prefontaine is such a huge event with so many great runners he will have tons of adrenaline and motivation

He just wanted to get his qualification for the World Championships so he chose this race to go out and run a sub-13:13 5K. In his interview afterwards, he talked about how he's so competitive he needed to win even though he "could have just stayed back and jogged in under 13:13." Imagine being so fast you could consider that jogging.
