George and Lexie were her plan, this is known.T.R. Knight wanted George to come out as gay and Shonda thought it was a bad idea, as she already had a character arc in mind. So Knight decided to quit the show and Shonda had to kill George off.

honestly i felt like George and Lexie would've been boring and obvious. I mean they are to similar and i felt like they would've been like Izzy and George. But Mark and Lexie in the other hand, that was way better and they had so much chemistry specially since mark and lexie loved eachother thru everything while george just wanted to pass his intern test

@@petis1976 Thank you for that insight ! TR Knight had also explained that his character was having less and less screen time. This is absolutely true when you watch season 5, it's like his character is a ghost, there are even a few season 5 episodes where he doesn't appear. This is also a reason why he left.

I don’t watch Grey’s like that but from all the Slexie clips, all of them prove something that just because two people love each other doesn’t mean they’re meant to be together. Slexie was just right person wrong situations. I think her and George would have made it work more due to the closeness in age.
