I have a 2017 GX, and my steering wheel rattles and shakes when I hit the brakes, especially when carrying more passengers or driving downhill. The brake pads and rotors were replaced on all four wheels, and the problem seemed fixed for about 1.5 years, but it has returned. Is this a common issue with the GX? My steering wheel balance is also slightly off, and I’m not sure if that’s contributing to the problem. Thank you Bob for the great video again.
@GXBOB13 күн бұрын
Well.....your brakes weren't really made to ride all the way down a mountain for a long period of time while leveraging a heavy GX460. I just came back from Big Bear and drove almost an hour going downhill. I don't use my brakes alone. I take my gear out of "D" and stick it in "S" on "4". Then i downshift to "3" depending on the flow of traffic going downhill. Hover your feet over your brake pedal and use it when needed. This way your brakes are bearing all the weight of the vehicle and you're not overheating the crap out of your rotors. I have slotted cross drilled rotors to dissipate some of that heat too.

I didn’t bother separating the rear calipers, just taking them off the disc was enough for me to do the pads. I also didn’t bother with lube. Never have and it’s never really been an issue 🤷♂️
@GXBOB18 күн бұрын
@ ahhhh. Gotcha. Separating was good to show all the components at all angles and out doesn’t hurt to clean it up prior to putting everything back. The lube was to cover all GX owners driving in any terrain - dry, wet, muddy. Those hardware components do get crusty and baked on. The lube was cheap enough where it was a no brainer since the brakes were always taken apart and accessible.

Love all your videos! They've been very helpful. How many miles were on those rotors?
@GXBOB18 күн бұрын
The OEM rotors i removed were at a little over 100K. They didn't need replacing. I only replaced them because i wanted the more aggressive cross drilled slotted look and i like the feel of better braking. They don't warp as fast as OEM do. I get less shudder over time. Thats my opinion as sometimes pin pointing your shuddering issue is difficult due to so many different components at work to make your brake system efficient. Thats the reason why i change everything and not just the pads and rotors. My brakes are flawless after the test drive.

I went for the aftermarket due to price and also reliability since i've owned R1 Concept cross drilled slotted rotors on my prior cars without fail. I already knew ahead of time i was going this path for the looks and its ability to cool down my brakes quicker. I found out my oem ones kept warping due to heat amongst other things that were harder to pin point. I know you have been with this channel for awhile and i do appreciate you not getting offended to most of my material. I've lost 152 subscribers in one day because of political issues or derogatory material in my vids. But i'm not here for the subscribers, i'm here to have fun regardless. @@GXBOB Yeah people are overly sensitive and want to be extremely woke and pretend to be all proper, in public. You just have to move past that BS. I have learned a lot by following your channel. Though my truck is a 2022 I still just went ahead and purchased the manual, which I think will be more accurate for specs than the google searches. The code worked and it cost me $25.89! I think the only thing you are missing on your truck is the little fold down table mounted on the rear door. I'll see if I can email you a picture. Bob, curious what you think of the carlinklife infotainment system now that you’ve been using it for a few months. I saw your original install video and your follow up fix for the issues you experienced. Do you have any other complaints or things a potential buyer should keep in mind? I’m in the market for a GX and debating on waiting out for the ‘22s to get a little cheaper so I get CarPlay standard or if I save some money and go with a ‘20-‘21 model and purchase the same infotainment screen you got. Any info helps! Love your channel and appreciate all the great knowledge you’re spreading to the GX community!

Hey Greatbaseball, i have a follow up video coming out soon. I received the latest and the greatest update to CLL firmware, wire bundle, and new screen that i need to install first before releasing the video. The short answer is: The functionality does what its intended for and the aesthetics makes me really happy. I really like the more modern 2023 interior look. You'll struggle with finding all the options you're looking for because the unit doesn't come with an owners manual but i ended up figuring it by playing around with it for awhile. I currently don't have any complaints but if you asked me a couple months ago, i would have told you to keep your oem Lexus navi.
