We are an Audi family on our 5th Audi/VW and I hear that they are unreliable have multiple issues but I guess we just have been lucky. Only issue to date on the 4 Audi’s and 1 VW was the exhaust rotted needing replacement on 1 car? I use scheduled maintenance intervals at dealer (cost @ $200- $600) for Audi’s up to 50k then I do maintenance, change oil, filters, lube hinges, I change all brakes myself. Last A4 we owned had 7 years with 125,000 miles before got rid of.

Great info. When I was working we used to get rental vehicles. These vehicles had around 137 180 miles on them. New, plastic still on. I got a Ford Explorer about 2 to 3 months using it while on the Highway it would not accelerate. I thought it was the gas. I took it to get checked out. Throttle body and needed to go to the dealer. I took it back to the rental. I then got a Jeep Cherokee, on a windy day the wind pull the driver side door. It bent the metal there was nothing to stop it from going further out, except the hinges. Then when it shift it felt like the Transmission was going to fall off. These were brand new car. First rental was us. Then I got a GMC that one was a lot better no issues.

My guess is that a quality independent shop like this sees a lot of the sticker shock items from the dealer repair shops as an alternative so the average would be higher here. This may not reflect the true average cost for repairs but is likely a compliment to the quality of this shop and the value they provide for higher cost repairs.

America's Big 3 aren't much better than Europe's Big 3 as we saw in the video(With Chrysler being the worst 😂). The difference is parts availability for German vehicles since they come from europe and of course they are luxury brands so it's going to add more to the repair cost.

You should have bumped it up to 200k mi, include a rental and salary offset coverage. I avoid these warranty scams because the manufacturer can use loopholes to avoid honorning them. Its a little like paying for a meal before you eat it. Once you get food poisoning, you shouldn't ever go there again. However, people line up to buy the same pieces of trash (I'm not saying Fords are trash) over and over again. Time is money. All the time it takes even interacting with the stealership is time we're losing money. Here's hoping you never need to make a warranty claim.

Fun video. One thing that's perhaps worth pointing out is the distinction between average cost of repair versus reliability over time/mileage. It would have been touch much to cover in this video, but some vehicles will be more reliable than others but have varying cost of repair when work is eventually needed. As a Subaru owner, I'm glad that brand didn't show up on this list. I do also own a BMW, though. And yes, it has leaks, but it's 27 years old so I don't hold that against it. 🙂
@christopherlowery855

I would expect Subaru to be number 8 or 10 on this type of list. Especially newer models. Between the electronic thermostat and leaky head gaskets, they aren't exactly the cheapest to maintain. Still, better than the examples listed here. A WRX head gasket job reminds me of an Audi timing chain job. I just think they're overrated.
@ZeGermanHam
@ZeGermanHam 20 сағат бұрын
@@christopherlowery855 Head gaskets haven't been a concern on Subarus since about 2010 after the FA-series engine came out. Subarus are fairly reliable these days (6th most reliable among all brands according to CR), but they do have some things that can be costly to repair. On the whole, they are better than the industry average.

@@ZeGermanHam I haven't followed the engineering of any of the newer engines, besides the oil starvation issue on the GR86/BRZ and the electric thermostat I mentioned. The oiling issue only exists on track. It's not even a concern for street use. As for the thermostat, from what I've seen, that poor engineering choice was quickly reverted due to the increased failure rate. I don't think its on any of the newer cars. Do you know if Subaru went back to a single-piece head or is it still a 2-piece assembly? Also, did they ever reorient their head bolts to allow removal, of the head, without removal of the cam shafts? These are some of my bigger complaints about their boxer engines. As well as the poor oil baffling from factory I've mentioned. Otherwise, I would agree, its a pretty solid powerplant, so long as you don't over-boost it. The STi is already riding that reliability line from factory. From what I understand, some guys just push the engine over the edge and then try to blame Subaru as being unreliable. Likewise, they try to apply 400whp to a wrx transmission. I don't blame Subaru for that type of idiocracy.
@ZeGermanHam
@ZeGermanHam 14 сағат бұрын
@@christopherlowery855 The thermo-control valve underwent a redesign a few years ago, which should in theory help. However, Subaru also ditched the termo-control valve altogether for 2025 and went back to a standard thermostat. As far as the heads go, they are still two-piece w/cam carrier, and the cams have to be removed to get the head off the block. Subaru also redesigned the valve covers to help with oiling in high-G settings. From what I've heard, the bigger issue with oil at the track is temperature control. I am a track instructor and I don't see many Subarus on the track. It's my view that they simply don't hold up well in that environment for a variety of reasons. Totally agree with your assessment of owners ruining their Subarus by modifying them. I think the newer non-turbo daily driver Subarus are pretty good all things considered. The biggest liability they have is CVT valve body solenoid failure or torque converter failure. Those are fairly costly repairs, but not a death sentence. I believe both issues have been somewhat addressed in the more recent years, too. Wheel bearing failures are reported with some regularity as well. Other than work involving the cylinder heads, I really enjoy working on Subarus. They're well built and most things are easy to get to.

DONT GO MORE THAN 4k MILES on oil changes. 5. CUT DOWN IDLING YOUR HEMI. This is a big one 6. If you are putting a new engine (hemi) in it. Upgrade the oil pump. I smell exaggeration. I have an 08 MDX with 195k mi on it. While maintenance has been low, I would hardly call the vehicle problem-free. We did need to replace the A/C. And starter. But other minor issues include the programmed seats not retaining memory, the bluetooth module went out, the RF receiver seems to be going out. The LCD display on the dash takes a long time to warm up and display. The driver side mirror doesn't move into parking position very well, the climate control vent position actuator is broken, and one of the engine mounts needs to be replaced. Also, there's an oil leak from the valve cover. 200k mi vehicles will just have 200k mi problems. If your Accord is virtually manual everything, your story would be a little more believable. But if its as luxurious as the Acura we have, I suspect similar electrical problems.

I feel like you need to analyze ALL quotes given to customers, not just the actual repair orders. Cause no one's gonna spend $3k to fix a 2010 Dodge Avenger but the owner of a 2010 Mercedes E Class will. So that brings up the average on the Mercedes and down the average on Dodge since the owner chose not to repair it.

That is why Toyota is the # 1 car manufacturer on the planet. But watch out for BYD & Greely because their Chinese electric cars are selling like crazy outside Europe, Japan, Canada, and the USA. That is why Toyota is spending billions on their solid state battery which they claim will be ready in a few years, and will deliver 700 mile range. I'll believe that when I see it.
