Both this and your other "how to repair" video were extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing with the IS300 community. I'm going to attempt the replacement today, and will hopefully have some heat blowing back into the car again very soon. Update: Well, the replacement servo motor did the trick, we now have heat again, and the grinding noise is gone. The job should have taken about 20-30 minutes, but that darn hidden screw in the back was really a pain to get to and remove, I must have fought with that for nearly an hour. Finally helped to slide the tube padding/insulation up and out of the way to get a little more room for the screwdriver. That 3rd screw was very frustrating and really tried my patience. For some reason putting it back in during the reinstall wasn't nearly as bad though. Thanks again - very helpful!!

Thanks Froggy, great vid. I’m working on a Lexus IS 250 2014. It’s more compact near the actuators then your vehicle. The only way to remove the actuators is by dropping the whole housing for the fan motor, To make room. I need to figure that out , the bolts are not all visible. I’m doing a little at a time , so frustrating . You are motivating me to keep going.

Thanks for sharing I just changed my servo motor today and saves me hundreds of $$$... the shop where I took my car was going to charge me $885.00 for parts and labor! When you start the car you will hear a clicking noise. This IS300 is my daily driver for the last 21 or 22 years. If you turn the temp to extremes hot/cold a few times, it will stop most of the time. The air for now at least will move correctly thru the vents. This has been going on for years. In the winter when the car is bone cold or when the temp is hot, it will make the clicking noise. Once car is warmed up and driving for 10 minutes it seems to behave and I forget about it. However, I don't want to wake up and find I have no heat in the winter and cold in the summer. I ordered the part and will let you know the results once installed. Thanks for the detailed description.

Thanks Froggy. This helped me out in finding what to look for. I have a right hand drive (Australia) 100 series Sahara, which means that rather than being able to remove the glove box, its on the driver side. Getting access to the bolts on the right hand drive is an absolute nightmare. I even had an endoscope to use and see the screws that need to be removed. I just can't get my hands in there without disassembling the entire centre console and removing all of the AC ducting that was in the way.

mine was the easy one thats first before the one he was talking about. my 01 is300 would blow cold air even in heater mode. so i bought an aftermarket unit for around $55 and took me 1 hr to do first time ever doin it. just be careful with vents n there clips. and the small screw driver does help for the rear 2 bolts

@Yuksan
@Yuksan 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, My is300 isn't blowing heat, only cold air. I just changed the thermostat and that wasn't the issue though it was in bad shape. The air mix servo does make a noise on start up for about 9-10s then stops but the door seems to move fine between the last two settings.
@1947froggy
@1947froggy 6 жыл бұрын
If you hear hot/cold servo move and it sounds correct, you MAY have a clogged up heater core. I hope not it's a bitch to replace. See if you can shove your hand up near the core with hot selected & see if it's hot/warm. :)

If those two pipes near the motor run to the core, then those are hot.

On my way to DMV early this morning, I noticed that after been driving for more than 20 mins my car still blowing cold air. I think I have a same issue, I let you know once I fix my car but I’m almost pretty sure that my actuator went bad as initially I heard squeaking noise on my initial startup and I don’t hear the click when I move the thermostat selector from 65 to 85.

hey froggy im having a similar problem with my 04 is300. The ac will sometimes turn on when the dial is in the off position. The ac light will also get stuck on either or off. This is a reoccuring problem and sometimes it will fix itself for a few months. just seeing if this is the issue you had. Thanks

Try to figure out if the actual a/c compressor is running when the light is on, or off when the light is off. This does not mean the pully spins as it spins all the time. Could be the circuit board is shot. Just a guess.

Would either one of these servos that you replaced/worked on cause the driver side to get cold/ac air and the passenger side get warm/hot air?
@1947froggy

Cause? You mean would the proper installation of the servo "cause" the system to work incorrectly? No these servos "fix" the incorrect function of the system. Thanks.

Ok so I am going to run my scenario by you and maybe you can assist? I have a 2002 is300 and when i am NOT using Auto mode temps and directional flow seems ok... when I use AUTO for both fan speed and Directional flow i don't get nearly as hot air as i do in Manual mode? Auto mode at the most gets slightly warm at MAX TEMP? But in manual mode it gets very HOT! Any Ideas?
@1947froggy

That is interesting, if you get max heat in manual mode then it's NOT the actuator. I am GUESSING the control (circuit board) or more likely the temp SENSOR is having trouble. I have not accessed either myself. :)

That seems high, but it's not as quick as an air filter. There is a "book rate" they use which is an estimated average time for average mechanic to do it. Good mechanics beat it by as much as 50% less. Ask to see the book rate. :)
