Okay so my LS400 currently has an issue with cold starts. Takes about 10-15 cranks when cold. Yesterday I swapped out my current ECU (has 3-4 busted capacitors and has damage on the board) for a 2nd ECU I have (only has 1 busted capacator), and she fired up in 1 crank while cold!! Fixed my issue! But, is now stuck in limp mode 🤣 I’ve bought a totally pristine ECU that’s never had damage with the new super capacitors made by LScowboy for a hefty price, but I’ll have a life time warranty and all the capacitors will get replaced with the new super capacitors and the ECU should last another 20 years. Goodluck man.

Bypass the fuel pump ECU, and replace the capacitors on the Engine ECU is one of the very first maintenance things I did to my 93 LS400. I only now have a CEL for the MAF sensor. Will order a used OEM one off ebay and hope it's good and I will be good to go. Aside from fixing my other obvious LS problems lol.

I seen that you plan on just replacing the capacitors. You might need to end up fixing those traces as well. You can clean the board with isopropyl alcohol to get a better view of those traces. And hopefully theyre not too damaged. If the traces are damaged, you can jump them but it just takes a little more practice, patience and tooling. I have a video fixing a similar failure on a Tacoma.
@LetsDriftMedia3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I read a pretty detailed forum on doing this repair hoping for the best, kind of sucks because the traces that have the burn marks are very tight so hope I will be able to clean them enough. I will check out your video

@@LetsDriftMedia Did this ever fix yours? Yours is a UCF10? Mine is a UCF20 and I’m told these ECUs had been redesigned along with the gauge cluster issues but I can’t confirm. I can confirm that my gauge cluster is fully original and 100% functional. Any help would be appreciated. My 1JZ Twin-Turbo SC300 is having similar issues and my MR2T’s brand new ACT clutch just locked up, as well. So my whole fleet is down and I need to get to work.

I’m having hell of a time trying to figure out my UCF10 it runs rich and shitty like a misfire but no codes ... you accelerate then let go of the gas...the idle dies ... already launched a parts cannon. Lol did the plugs rotors and caps ... did replace Ecu and MAF. Oxygen sensors pre cat are like a year old. But no codes it’s killing me. 😆

Hmmm, I wonder if you have a stuck open fuel injector/multiple stuck open.take out one bank of spark plugs, disable spark, and crank the motor see if excessive fuel is shooting out of any of the cylinders.

Hey, How do you remove the ECU? I removed the bottom plastic cover (3 plastic clips), then 3 - 10mm screws holding a panel under the glove compartment... but can't remove that panel / trim... Is there a secret screw(s) holding it. I don't want to pull it and bust the tabs or whatever holds it. Thanks
@LetsDriftMedia2 жыл бұрын
Depends what year yours is. Some my 94 only has the 3 10mms on the top under the felt glove box material and then you pop the lower clips out with a flat head screw driver.

Dont think you can buy a new one anymore, a rebuilt ECU is around 3-400 rn. and yes simply swap it out with your current ECU and you are good to go, just make sure you get the correct part number that yours has.

How does the motor sound? have you checked the timing to see if the timing belt skipped a tooth possibly? checked spark to verify your actually getting spark? done a compression test to see mechanical health of the motor? Checked fuel pressure?Could be alot of things. Wouldnt hurt to pull out your ECU and remove the covers to see if you have any leaking capacitors as well since they are known to cause all sorts of issues.
