3:00 pro tip: cover that exposed timing belt/ spark plug/ distributor area with a rag to keep junk from falling behind the timing belt cover. Any little piece of debris will settle at the bottom and get lodged between the crank pully and the timing belt causing the belt to jump time. Then you will be looking at a full timing belt job. Don't' ask me how I know ;-(

I have the same engine and vehicle, I was going to tackle this tomorrow. My question is, on the passenger side, since you had to disconnect the coolant lines, do you have to refill, or bleed any air out of the cooling system afterwards? Or are you good to just reconnect your hoses and send it?
@LetsDriftMedia8 ай бұрын
You wont lose much coolant but if you do just make sure the reservoir is still at the right level, Besides that send it.

Hi, thanks for a great video. I am in the process of adjusting the valve clearance on LS year 90 and wanted to ask where exactly are the half moons located?
@LetsDriftMedia2 жыл бұрын
On the rear end of the cylinder head at the top where the valve cover meets the head. (Near the firewall)
@simple88182 жыл бұрын
@@LetsDriftMedia Found them. There are two half moons in the rear and two in the front of each bank. They are so flushed with the surface that are hard to locate. I choose not take them out. Just have enough confidence in my mechanical ability to put them back in so flushed. Looked around them and they don't look to be leaking yet. I will change the Gaskets for spark plugs tube. I noticed some oil on the top of the valve cover and guessing it's likely from the gaskets. Gaskets were extremely hard and brittle. BTW... my LS has almost 300k miles. Thanks again for your video.
@LetsDriftMedia2 жыл бұрын
@@simple8818 I would re seal them while you can it’s not hard they have grooves so only goes in one way. Once you put the valve cover back on it will make them level with the head.

I'm just asking please is it normal when the head casket goes bad that the water gets hot and the water blows out of the reservoir where the water is being poured.
@LetsDriftMedia2 жыл бұрын
Yes. If the head gasket blows then the pressure from the combustion chamber will get pushed through the coolant system back to the reservoir.

I have a 1990 LS400 and trying to replace fan bracket. Having problems with driver side timing cover removal. Especially where air intake feeds into the throdle body. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
@adrianlara3925 Жыл бұрын
did you end up figuring it out? I’m actually workin on problem with my 92’ let me know!
@ronaguilar7342 Жыл бұрын
@@adrianlara3925 Yes. So, I had to remove timing covers and unclip about 5 different wiring harnesses to free up some of them. Then, I had to dismantle my air intake from the radiator, to where it mounts atop the throttle body. I had trouble removing this last part because I didnt want to just pull it off and thought it was still mounted onto something that I couldnt see. I removed one bolt tword the front of engine, removed another bolt tword the firewall, and then unclipped wire harness and separated air intake from throttle body after finding out that there was nothing else holding it on after undoing the two bolts and wiring harness. It was just on there very tight from being there over the years. So what I did was get a piece of wood, and put it against the lip of the air intake mounted on the throttle body and knock it loose by hammering the piece of wood against it. That then enabled me to just pull it off. And Ill be dammed if it didnt work. But before you do all that, you do have to take off the plastic part that sits atop the valve covers on both sides to be able to then start working on timing belt covers. With all that done. Im now running into a bit of a problem in loosening the 14 millimeter bolt holding a wiring bracket directly above my compressor. Its very hard to access, but I believe I can do it by getting a long wrench down in there. I just need to find the right length and buy it as im limited on tools a bit. I have in fact found that most if not all the smaller things on this vehicle can be dismantled with a 10 millimeter. Hope this helps

@@martinpreciado3585tried but It didn't. My first clue should've been that there was fuses installed in every place for one even where there should be empty spots. I was getting power @ chassis ground pin 1 on the Ign Main Relay & Inj Relay (ground comes from the connector ground @ left rear in the engine bay. By abs module. ) I jumped pins 5 and 3 with a fused lead on both relays and the car ran fine. Inspected the harness for short to ground but there wasn't any. I stated pulling fuses and relays see if the light would go out but no luck. * With a 4amp test light from ground to pin 1on the Ef12 relay * Jumped pins 1&2 on the inj relay just for poop and laughter and (main relay fuse blew) Opened J/B and ecu to inspect but everything looked fine. However pulling main relay fuse, EFI1 and unplugging the last connector *closest to headlight on the ecu* made the light go out. I was about to call a bad ecu but something told me that I wasnt that! I started putting everything back together and was "missing" a relay after pulling all of them out of the junction box. Naturally the last relay I was gonna installed was the INJ relay going back reverse of removal. Well I robbed the S-Horn relay cause that was the least important right? Well I was Absolutely right! After swapping relays I went to start the car just one last time and the vehicle started. Lol After a look at the wiring diagrams the S-horn relay is not equipped in this vehicle. So The dindong trying to diagnose the car before me put one in there that made the ecu backfeed power to the J/B.
