I test drove the Volvo XC60-R 3.2 turbo, BMW 28i and 35i, and the Audi Q5 3.2L. All of them are great cars, and you can't go wrong with any of them. The XC60 has the most safety features and has the easiest MMI to learn; however, the both the transmission is sluggish and the steering is sloppy. Not a driver's car. The BMW has great handling the MMI is very good, and the 35i has some serious acceleration that I wanted. The Audi and the BMW 28i engines are about the same, but the Audi steering is not as direct as the BMW, but is still sporty. The Audi MMI is not menu driven and takes a PhD to learn. I'd put the BMW 35i at the top and BMW 28i just barely above the Audi. At the end of the day, I went with the Audi 3.2L because I got it for $4K less than the BMW 28i. I have 75K mi on it now and have only replaced the battery and CV boots. That's it.

Hi Yesterday I did a test drive for a Lexus nx 450h in hybrid mode, and I was surprised that for the duration of the test the sound of the electric motors was annoying... Is this normal for the hybrid mode? Another thing I felt was that the suspension system is not quite as good as described in the videos because I I felt it concretely in the street potholes and light bumps. Besides in the volvo xc60 b5 mild hybrid test nothing of this felt no annoying sounds and good behaviour suspensions.

Nice review but why was Range Rover Evoque or LR Freelander 2 not included in the review? I think off the lot they would possibly be the most capable luxury off roaders and around the same price point.

Why test the XC60 in the lowest trim level? Only fwd and no xenon. Go for a R-Design next time.

It may be the safest but not the best looking, the nx really stands out and it's eye catching and it's the same or even more comfortable from the volvo which now looks outaded. Compare the 2015 nx with the 2015 Xc60, the nx is just more stylish and it will always be from the xc60, no matter how big of a "volvo fan" you're it's the truth, whether you like it or not

You should have tested the Volvo with the sport leather seats, they're as good as they come. Why test the base version and skew the results. Go D5 with sport interior and call it a day! Btw, the lex is a fugly plastic junk toy (Toyota)..and how far's that reach to the gear lever? Why they still think Darth Vader's face looks good on a front grill? Well Bimmers mean crap interior and way over priced for the kit you get. A few days in the shop per month sucks also. The Audi is dated, doesn't have much cargo room, and being an old Audi guy here and having driven one of these for a week (dealer loaner), there's mega wind noise from the exterior window pillars above 50 kph. Nerve racking howling...WTH?! Anyway, wish we could get the Volvo D5 version here in the States. Cheers!

The Volvo is pretty outdated as well... The Lexus uses less plastic than the Volvo, it's more reliable, and can hold it's value well. You must have short arms because the gear lever isn't even that far. The BMW doesn't have a crap interior and is actually more reliable than you think. If it's so bad like you think it is, then why are so many people still buying it over Volvo?However I do think the Volvo is better than the Q5 because it's becoming a little old and is quite small.

I completely disagree about the (horrid looking) Lexus using less plastics than the Volvo! You obviously don't know Volvo's. But who cares, the Lexus looks like Darth Vader's helmet warn by the Predator. Tacky and ridiculous nonsense for this market segment! Oh, btw, I am 6'1" and have 35" sleeves, so reaching things isn't an issue for me. I'm just looking out for my smaller friends. The BMW does have crap interiors in the X3, does live in the shop (research) even if they cover by warranty (who needs the hassle?), and will cost you another $10K to have it spec'd decently and comparatively to the Volvo. Price one with full leather and navigation and compare. Now, they sell well for the reasons most BMW's (and now Audi's) sell well: 1) Everyone wants to join the club, except independent personalities like me, 2) they have excellent lease deals (who buys a new BMW?), 3) proper advertising/marketing, 4) did I mention every poser wanna-be desires being part of team Bimmer? (yawn) ;-) Yes, this Volvo design is growing old in the tooth (2010), but I must say that my 2015.5 XC60 T6 AWD Ocean Race, with the latest Sensus Connect, is quite special inside and out, drives quickly and solidly, yet absorbs most road imperfections. It will protect my family in about ALL collisions, and cost me near $10K less than a comparably equipped (though run-of-the-mill) X3! We prefer exclusivity, Volvo provides exclusivity! Everyone else can join the BMW and Toyota, I mean Lexus bandwagon (wince)!

Exactly! My XC60 has 300 hp/325 lb-ft, with an option to go 325/354 with the Polestar flash (my V60 T6 AWD R-Design has this - very quick!). Who else in this segment does that for under $50K USD? Oh and does this with the absolute best seats made? You can drive this thing for a 1,000 miles and still feel fresh at the end!

Nineq 96 in my opinion the volvo is the most ugliest car, plus it is not a premium brand. seats are not giving you support, and a mediocre gearbox. The audi offers no rear view camera, no satnav and the fuelconsumption is high. the lexus would be my choice. 2nd BMW.
