Lexus sc300 2jz Toyota Tundra Alternator install (130 AMPS)

After the old stock alternator died in the lexus sc300 I figured it was time for a small upgrade.

@@Edward3jr Hey I just found out that the sc430 03-10 uses the same 130amp alternator and the oval plug is the same as the Supra's and no repinning. So you'll just be shaving off the 5 mill and you're ready to go. Just ordered me one.💯👌👌👌

I bought what ever I could find from advance auto. Just look up Toyota thundra alternator at your local auto parts. You should be good

This is a genuine question and not criticism but isn't bad for the alternator for the metal shavings to fall in it?

Luis Martinez this is a real good question. It’s probably not good for metal shavings to fall into your alternator. But if some do it’s nothing compressed air can’t take care of. The way I see it, alternators are exposed to all sorts of things, like dust, dirt, grease, oil, fuel, coolant etc... I mean they get pretty dirty in the engine bay, but they last a while. To be honest, I didn’t think about protecting the alternator at the time. If I had to do it all over again, since you mentioned it, I would probably cover it up as it doesn’t hurt to take an extra step to be on the safe side. Thank you for pointing this out.

I'm actually trying to install a higher amperage alternator on my 3tc engine (1980 toyota corolla) and I've looked at cs140/cs144 from GM (the newer casing ones from LS1 engines). Do you have any recommendations for alternators that are around 140 amps that are internally regulated and the bolt holes aren't 180 degrees on the casing.

Luis Martinez I’m not entirely familiar with the 3tc platform and would need a little bit of time to research into your option. I did a quick search and found the link below. Though it’s 95 amps and not 140, I think it’s a good starting point. Is the ls1 alternator a common swap? www.3tcgarage.com/viewtopic.php?t=68

@@Edward3jr yeah the well I don't know if it's common but it's a good platform because and can be one wired and internally regulated alternator. But with a little more effort you can make it charge better and work like a factory alternator.
