Thanks mate for that insightful info! I was considering to get a mechman alternator for bigger amps but now can save some bucks and readily available in my country to just get a 2UZ alternator and basically a bolt-on for my 1st gen 1UZ on my lux 😉👍

I actually fitted a OEX alternator into a series 1 1UZ Soarer many years ago. It seems the factory original alternators have an 'active' Light circuit to control the charging warning system in the dash. The OEX one works, except you get a warning message with ignition on, goes off once started. The warning message is in Japanese, (Warning alternator not charging battery) again, goes away as soon as started.

Something trivial. What would be the effects of say the 66mm pulley onto the PFL Ls430 alternator? Or wouldnt it matter due to the voltage regulation etc? You're the smart one out there 😂

Hi Kelvin, Thanks for all of the great info you share with us all. You have helped me so many times now. I have a question regarding the charging strategy for the JDM 2003 Soarer 3UZ engine I have in my USDM IS300. I may just have a failing alternator, but what I've found is that when the car is warm, in gear and the headlights on, the idle will be around 600 rpm (indicated) and the voltage will drop to about 12.1v. If I put it in park and turn off the headlights, the idle will raise to 800 rpm, and then the alternator will charge at 13.6-13.8v. I've done voltage drop tests on the alternator power cable, and battery cables. All test good. Also, the ALT fuse is good. Am I overthinking this, or is my alternator giving me early warning signs that it's about to shit the bed? Thanks for everything.

Just want to make sure. I can use a 92-00 alternator on my 99? Will the regulator, brushes and rectifier transfer from say 94-97 to a vvti one? Only ask because part numbers seem to way off. Thanks Kelvin.

Complete alternator will swap fine mechanically and if the connectors are the same then they will plug in fine. Internal parts may not swap over as toyota like to change stuff around inside, just for fun. Cheers Kelvin

So I have a gs400 with the 1uz alternator. When I’m gear with the brake applied the voltage drops low but stable, brought to frighten me. Will a 3uz alt help with this ?

HI is there an alterntor relocation kit for 3UZ? DO you make adaptors for patrol gq swap using a3uz and its ear box? if you do what are the prices?

Kelvin, have you used an ECU-controlled alternator on a Link or Haltech setup?

not yet. Generally we are using all the outputs on the ecu builds so alternator control gets removed from the list. Cheers Kelvin

Yes, That appears to be the early 3uz with the 3 pin connector or later 1uz vvti crown so the early 00-03 LS430 alternator should work fine. Cheers Kelvin

Early 3uz is 130 amp. If you want 100amp then ucf20 non vvti and vvti will work fine.
