Just test drove a current Model Year UX300e - totally agree with Rory’s comments on the whole. Quiet, swift and well screwed together - and looks good, in my opinion. It may be expensive to buy, but as a Company car lease, it’s cheaper than the competitor cars he mentions and these days, most people don’t need the huge range - at least you can fully recharge it during a shopping trip at most supermarket free chargers (or McDonalds!) Getting rid of a Tesla Model 3 Long-range for one of these - don’t need a bigger car, only carry 2 people usually and it can leave the house with a full charge every morning! Had an extended test drive in the UX300e and it did a full normal days driving for me without any range anxiety. Sure I can’t drive to Lands End from Leicester in a single drive - but, being real, that’s not a journey I commonly do! It can quite happily get me to Milton Keynes and back in a day - and that’s not too shabby and is all the range I need. Oh, and Sat Nav? I use Waze and Apple CarPlay- I would argue the days of in-built sat navs are gone - Phone apps never need map updates and always have accurate traffic news

I never cease to be amazed how so many people comment negatively about how expensive the reviewed new car is (whatever the car or make is, which is being reviewed). Its like somehow these people think they have scored a point if they manage to pay ‘only’ this or that for a new car. The price of a car new is only relevant if you’re stupid enough to buy one! Better to buy it somewhere down the line after the first fool soaked up all the depreciation, plus finance, plus finance interest etc etc. These reviews and lots of the negative comments which follow, miss a huge trick here; RELIABILITY!!! A few years down the road this super unpopular electric Lexus (like many Lexus) will be pocket change, and I mean sub £10k, sub £8k or even sub £5k pocket change! Thats when you should buy it, when the other fools have absorbed £35k of depreciation for you. What you’ll then get for your money will wipe the smug smile off any doubters face and heres why. You’ll get award winning reliability, customer service like you’ve never experienced before, and to top it off, industry leading (transferable) warranty which prevails until the car is 10 years old or 100k whichever comes first, as long as you have a Lexus service annually. Thats coz Lexus has faith in their product, and stands by what they make, unlike pretty much every other manufacturer. Go and research or Google or YT the quality control of the Takumi Technicians in Japan who oversee the production of Lexus cars; it will be an education. Meanwhile keep laughing at Lexus, keep buying your good looking but unreliable alternative marques. I’ll wave to you while yre stuck at the side of the road and I pass you in my 10 year warranted reliable Lexus! See ya later!

It proves that Lexus is behind other electric cars. 196 miles for that price??

4:08 "This car does 0 to 60 in 7,5 seconds. It feels like a hot hatch." You might have gone a little overboard with praising this cars performance there. The car weighs 1900kg and has just 150kw of power. You praised how easy it is to overtake with it, but I seriously doubt that tiny engine will do much on motorways.

It definitely is far from a hot hatch but after driving the car for the whole day to do a 100% to 0% test on it, the acceleration is rather dramatic obvioulsy cos it's an electric car and the torque is just instant. Anyways I've made a couple videos on them, you're welcome to watch and let me know your thoughts on them :)

That should be the highest floor I’ve seen in an “SUV”. Other commenters have called this “overpriced shite” and I agree.

It actually is a shame cos the car is actually incredibly well done but the range... I drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! Also here in Australia they start at $80k.... Anyways you're welcome to watch my reviews on them and let me know what you think.

I would buy the car just for one feature: its 1 million km 10 year battery warranty it has over here. Which would provide an easy answer to the usual sentiment: But the batteries will be done for after two years, how can that be good? But especially the wrong charging standard, not to mention the high price and the poor range really make it a hard sell.

It's interesting mate cos I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and was disappointed that the expected range is no where near what is outlined! Also here in Asus it costs an extra $20-30k that a petrol or hybrid UX so doing the maths (Electricity cost over fuel cost per 100klms) it would take almost 700,000klms to get your money back and let's face it no one will do that... Anyways you're welcome to watch my videos on it and let me know what you think :).

Rory... you've done your best with what you were given to review... appreciated as ever/always.... in my book this manufacturer is just pretending they're entering the full electric arena, with tears in my ears, the thing has a nice looking grill... end of story. 125 - 150 mile range in the cold months (8 in UK) and a "fast" charging rate of 75minutes... NO SATNAV and they want more than £40k for it too... I'll pass on this unit, thank you. 😂🤣😂🤣🇬🇧

Whoever designed the rear of that car needs to have their head examined. Do they not think rust is a thing? Do they not realize the problem that shelf of a tail light is going to cause? Are they intentionally creating a problem to force people to replace the car prematurely? I have to hand it to the editor though... Not showing things like the underfloor storage in the back is a good way to stay on the big L's good side.

Electric cars are getting into the mainstream party. Manufacturers are learning what works and what doesn't. People are starting to love what they are being offered as well. I bet in 2 years time, smaller yet more power battery packs will be available. Faster chargers and more charging stations all over the places.

You are right about EVs being mainstream. But this Lexus is a complete fail. Wouldnt cmpete in 2019 ... let aline in 2021 ... extra 13k for the satnav, that's a joke, right?

In twenty-six years the World’s largest auto maker (Toyota) has barely moved things along regarding their electric vehicles. [1997 was notable for the launch of an all-electric RAV4 EV model designed to comply with California’s mandate for zero-emissions vehicles. Its sophisticated nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries gave the car a range of 100-120 miles…]
