-----------------------
These days it feels like it's at an all time low for positive outcomes.
The music here is free for you to download or to pay for. It's your call. It's not free because I place no value on this work. It's free because I mean it.
It shows a slightly different side and production value to previously released works. These are the tracks I've personally revisited most in the past four or five years. They have all helped me out. I'd like to think you don't see this as throwaway work. It's been collated carefully.
Production wise I think it's more in focus and it gives some indications to early influences. It goes somewhere, it goes nowhere, there's drawn out synths, drums, piano and drift. It's about the fact that not everything need be angry, distorted or bombastic to show defiance. It's every bar stool I've sat on and am yet to sit on. It's me throwing myself down stairs again and again because I'm as sick of things as you are.
If it's not released now then this work just sits on a drive for even longer gathering digital dust which I feel is a shame. Maybe you will find some solace in the sounds if your mood is right or you need them. Maybe one track hits home, maybe more do. Hopefully it can help here and there.
I still greatly believe in the value of music and of true independent music. This is in spite of the constant devaluing of music by big business and streaming services. I'm not creating work to help push cans of energy drink or to look for cheap clicks on playlists or to get involved in scenes.
The bottom line here is if you have no coin right now then this one is on me with pleasure. If you can support the work then this is great too. It's always a lot of hard work and a dream.
I've been hard at it lately with The Caretaker work so now I afford myself a night out finally sinking the odd whisky or two down at my favourite Krakow bar, Propaganda. It's been a good while since the last time I was sat on the bar stool.
I'll raise the whisky glass in there for us all. You know the score.

It has been such an interesting week, waiting for Stage 3 of Everywhere at the end of time. On the morning of September 22nd, my grandmother passed away at the age of 91. She herself had fallen victim to dementia - and even before she died, I knew listening to Sides E and F would be a very emotional experience. I think it's most interesting that you're in Kraków - that's where her family was from.

I think the reason why this is so weirdly happy-sounding for a caretaker album is because it's NOT a caretaker album. Look at the title, it says Leyland Kirby. This is not meant to be the caretaker's story anymore, it's Kirby's. Now why is this important? It's because with the Caretaker, there is *NO* happy ending for him because of the nature of Dementia. It's destined to end in death, and the Caretaker's story is one about decay and eventually death. Kirby? He doesn't have dementia, (and hopefully never gets it) and he isn't fading away. He's still here, still fighting, and still *living.* This album isn't about losing yourself, it's about fighting for even a sliver of light in this dark world... And finding it. The drums say it all, they give the songs a more active feel, because this entire album is a fight, a struggle that isn't destined to lead to failure. The Caretaker was doomed. Leyland Kirby still has a chance.

I've been listening to this every night for at least a week now to unwind (and usually paint or draw while listening). Since I found Everywhere at the End of Time, I have been very interested in all Leyland Kirby's projects, (and Ivan Seal's artwork is pretty interesting too) and this is another of my all-time personal favorites for how genuinely consoling and beautiful it is to me. I'm soon to listen to other pieces of Leyland's, but while I'm sitting here listening tonight I decided to drop a comment here as well. I am very appreciative of this, it's a beautiful piece and I've already used it to help me through a couple anxiety attacks and I listen to this at night when I can't sleep and feeling lonely, scared, or sad. I also listen to this to reminisce the past, and to dream of the future. This is one of at least three albums of Leyland Kirby's I can already connect with on an emotional level and enjoy. I love this album and I hope this gets many more views because I feel a lot of people could use these soothing tracks. I could find myself smiling to this, thinking to this, and perhaps even crying to this.
@Ringcaat
@Ringcaat 2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, because I just listened to this album and I didn't find it soothing at all. Possibly because I just got into Everywhere at the End of Time a couple of weeks ago, I found this album scary and unsettling, but I listened for the thrill and because I've been writing dark material for National Novel Writing Month. I told myself, this is the kind of thing I might make it a tradition to revisit around Halloween each year. And yet, even while it induces anxiety in me, you're saying it helps you dissipate anxiety and loneliness. I wonder how that works!

I’m not quite sure why, but ‘Tinseltown’ hits home for me. It’s the sound of memories and nostalgia, and the sound of looking back upon them not with any wish to return, but with the knowledge that your life is continuing forwards. In a sea of monotony and repition, it’s clarity, grace, even. Thank you, Mr. Kirby, you have touched my heart tonight.

Imaging a game with a very bad ending, but it has no save load feature, and aftermath is a long cutscene that just explains the consequences of your actions. Nice idea using a Joe Jackson-quote as albumtitle. 👍

It's a bit darker than that cover and this album is a revisiting of old tracks that is available for free on his Bandcamp. All of these albums tend to have descriptions in KZbin or Bandcamp description boxes, I advise you read them.

The description implies Kirby hates memes. Wonder what he thought about his artistic vision becoming memes by an audience he likely finds cringe.
