Leysdown-on-Sea is a coastal village on the east side of the Isle of Sheppey in the Borough of Swale in Kent, England. The civil parish is Leysdown and includes the settlements of Bay View, Shellness and Harty.

My Auntie had a holiday chalet in Leysdown, we used to go on summer holidays. I always said I never got ill through swimming in the Thames Estuary!... happy memories

I've been coming to Leysdown since I was a baby. I'm 24 now. I have such fond memories of the arcades and of the beach. Leysdown will forever have a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.

My Nan and Grandad owned a villa on the area that has the old built over pool with a derelict shop, just over from Manor Way I think? Used to love going there in the last 80’s/early 90’s. Loved looking out at the sea at dawn and watch the tankers way out in the distance with the old red forts in the background.

Met my husband on that bit of beach in 1964 We were Mods he came from London on his scooter ! = married 58 years ( Good ole Leysdown )

I said that about swimming in the Thames Estuary to my husband. My auntie had a chalet on Harts Farm..I stayed there as s child. I won a 't' set on the bingo in one arcade. Haply times!

That big building on the right about 5 minutes in - called “Corrigans”. It looks like a pub, but in 1971, I worked in a big arcade around that site called “Corrigan’s Cash Bingo”. Would that be the same site, the same family?

Other than trips there with my Mum, dog and stepdad in the '60's, which I enjoyed, I visited once with a boyfriend, and we (both) went horseriding from a little stables there. My mare was called Chantal (a pretty name for a horse which resembled a very shaggy grey 'Gypsy Vanner' which resembles a 'Shire horse'!) I was told she _wouldnt_ canter...but told she _was_ capable, _not_couldnt_ (due to a bad heart for example!) So...with the right encouragement, we did enjoy a lovely, though sadly brief, canter along a grass verge...apparently to the surprise of our Escorting rider...?!!😮 Sadly, only the one hour ride as ny bf sustained a rather nasty blister upon his behind (from riding in unsuitable undies 😮) and he wouldnt let me ride without him in the group.😢 I do miss those (generally speaking) happy days visiting Leysdown. 🐴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️🖖

How patronising. If you have a couple of kiddies it's a good place to take them for a budget holiday. The beach is lovely - it has a blue flag, and the walk back to Warden is quite beautiful (quite wild - you could be anywhere). Might I suggest you have another look (after taking the snooty attitude away).
