Step 1: Upper management needs to be more hands off, if the rumour that Dubas was not allowed to fire babcock is true, that is a joke. Step 2: fire Babcock, we all know it is time to give Sheldon Keefe a chance to coach in the NHL. Step 3: get Cody Ceci out of my life. Put him on waivers, trade him for a conditional 7th I don’t care but get him out Step 4: now that Ceci is gone call Sandin back up to play with Holl on the 3rd pair and hopefully a new coach gives him more than 12 minutes a game Step 5: Reduce Riellys minutes. Here's my feelings on this whole team. Before I get into it, I want to mention that I have a full-time Monday to Friday job. I'm a streamer for about 4-5 evenings a week which helps pays my bills. But during hockey season, I cut down those streams because I love this sport and my Leafs. But nearly every single game has been boring or incredibly frustrating for me because I am sacrificing too many of my evenings watching a team that is no longer fun to watch. Literally the only game that was fun for me was when we beat the Bruins in OT. Literally every bit of decision making of this organization has left a sour feeling in my mouth. From special teams, defensive and offensive positioning, discipline, how players like Spezza is being treated, how Holl was treated last year and is arguably our best Dman this year, and the fact that none of the coaches or GM's see the same issues that everyone can see. I get the fact why Dubas defended Ceci's play. But this old, stubborn, non-rational fire wagon thinking on this team is excruciating and making hockey no fun to watch this year. Especially when I'm giving up something I enjoy to do so. I don't expect this team to just turn things around magically. We're at the quarter mark of the season. Ceci is still getting way too many minutes for someone who is the last person in the arena to know where the puck is every night (and still randomly goes on adventure leaving us exposed defensively). The same stars are disappearing in our own zone. Our powerplay still looks the same; immobile and predictable (Trying Barrie on the 1st PP is heresy in Babcock's books). Petan and Spezza are never given a reward for having a good game. We're still lazily not getting pucks deep our out of our own zone resulting in the other team adjusting and gaining possession. And nobody in Leafs management seems to see that there is something REALLY fundamentally wrong with the coaching and the system. I'm not having fun and I don't think I'll be sacrificing as many of my evenings to watch an organization that has just gone off the rails until they make a drastic change. Either they learn that the Cody Ceci experiment is clearly not working or they realize that the even bigger problem is that the highest paid coach in hockey is getting outclassed every night and refuses to change anything. Other teams adjust and devise new strategies when things don't work. "Going smooth and steady on the rudder" just yells the definition of insanity to me; Doing the exact same thing over and over, expecting different results. Thank you to whomever reads me yelling into the abyss.

Sam Ealy That’s one way to look at it. First and foremost though, they play for the organization. And they are paid VERY well to do so. I’m not going to sit here and defend some or most of babcocks decisions... BUT you can’t coach effort. For the money the players get paid, I could give two shits about how they feel about the coach, go out there and do your job, earn that pay cheque. No excuses. If the coach is wrong and the players are giving 100% effort 100% of the time, that’s on the coach. But these guys are doggin it, night in and night out for embarrassing stretches of hockey games. But Nate, why doesn’t the coach just bench players who aren’t trying hard enough? Great question, who else is he going to play? The GM is running a damn line of credit paying players who have accomplished nothing but personal accolades. They can’t afford to address any of their roster needs without dumping cap space... Coaches hands are tied. But that’s what happens when parents give children too much money for nothing, the babysitter has no leg to stand on.

But Babs doesn’t understand as he thinks everyone on the team should be full of Hyman’s or something. Remember when we did have gritty fowards with Babs like Komarov & Polak? Hey Steve, I think that the Leafs are like Pittsburgh the first year they won the cup with Phil Kessel. They had a coach before Mike Sullivan and they were bottom of the East. Part of it I think was that Sullivan wanted to enhance the strengths of the Penguins rather than fix their issues. They ended up playing the fastest brand of hockey and won the cup two years in a row. We need a coach to come in and do that. If you're not willing to use the strengths of your team and just keep them in the box you set for them, then they will forever play mediocre.

I do agree. What we all want to see is some kind of progress. For things to move in a positive direction over time. For the team to seem to get better and correct its deficiencies and improve its performance. If that is happening, it is hard to tell. For the moment , it sure looks like the 2016-17 and 2017-18 Leafs were better teams than the 2018-19 and 2019-20 teams. They were certainly more fun to watch, and more consistent. There was a time when the goals were coming so fast, it was hard to believe. When the power play was a lock. It wasn't a question of whether or not they would score, but how fast. That is becoming a distant memory. The thing that scares me is the Leafs are not getting any better defensively, but the offense is getting worse. And now that we have come to this moment in time, when the Leafs are going to throw Kasimir Kaskisuo right in the deep end on Saturday night because they really have no other reasonable options, this must be written: The one inarguable error that Kyle Dubas has made so far was choosing to keep Garret Sparks over Curtis McElhinney. I think he let the fact that the Leafs' organization develop Sparks distract him from a basic truth: A great AHL goaltender is not guaranteed to be even an adequate NHL goaltender. And even if McElhinney's approach was not modern or even technically sound, it worked. The guy was able to play games so Freddy didn't have to, and the Leafs were able to win those games. I sure would love to have him on our roster for the $1.3M that Tampa is paying him. But, remember this: We put him on waivers. That is how expendable we deemed what is now an apparently irreplaceable commodity, an effective backup goalie that the Leafs could actually afford. It was a blunder. And now, the Leafs may just compound it by tossing a developing goaltender into a situation where he cannot succeed. I sure hope the team shows up on Saturday, if for his sake alone.

Bring back the 2016-2017 team. The one that's less talented on paper and wasn't expected to make the playoffs, but they fought hard every single night and made hockey exciting for Leafs fans for the first time in years and they squeaked in and gave the fans a fun series against the Caps.

To fix this team, I would try this: 1) Fire Babcock midseason 2) Shake up the D (bring up Sandin and move Ceci away from Reilly) 3) Have Matthews, Tavares, and Marner making up 3 lines: Johnsson- *Matthews* - Nylander Hyman - *Tavares* - Kapanen Mikheyev - Kerfoot - *Marner* Gauthier - Shore/Spezza - Timasov

Going back over the season to relive the Leafs' losses, so much fun, thanks Steve, and youtube. Also, I don't tolerate boring hockey with winning. Every time I went to go see the Canucks against Washington, they played the Caps so tight the game was tedious and whether they won or lost, I didn't care, fuck my 100 bucks.

#1. whatever Coach (Keefe or otherwise) they put behind the bench to replace Babcock will want to keep that job, and therefore will play the horses to make sure that the wins start rolling in. They will play the team in a manner suiting the players that Dubas has assembled. #2. I was listening to an Overdrive (TSN) interview with Bryan Berard and he was talking about Pat Quinn. Bryan said "Pat would just open the gate and let us out there" and that's why they were so good. They had a lot of skill and the players just figured it out. I believe the few wins that the Leafs have so far this season are IN SPITE of Babcock.. not BECAUSE of Babcock. ps. do we really think that Spezza can't still get 8-10 goals / 20-25pts? Keep him in the lineup!

I am a die hard Islander fan but subscribe to your channel because you are the best. Every fan of any hockey team feels the way you do but I honestly love watching your pain...in a good way. You crack me up. I go to every game at the Coliseum and scream my lungs out. Last night with a minute left I almost had a heart attack. Soooooo.... Im not being a jerk when I say this. I did not want JT to sign for that much because if you go thru the list of Capts in the NHL he is the worst. Hes a boring robot. So I want to ask you this. At what point is it him???? Yes he can score. He will not check. He will not back check. He will never stand up for anyone EVER and he will repeat the same thing after every loss OVER and OVER. "We have to be better as a team. Its unacceptable, blah blah blah". Trust me I have watched him since he was a kid. Making him the Capt was a HORRIBLE idea. I know you are going to say Im an angry Islander fan who just hates JT, which I do, BUT at some point you need to hold him accountable and cant just say well hes scoring. Keep up the good work. Joe

Yes, we are all fed up. Leafs have done some things right this season...I Just don't know what they are ;) As I've already stated on your other vids, the foundation of the team is faulty. For some reason, probably due to being the GM and winning at the Junior level, while reading books on other sport team winners, Dubas is making mistake after mistake at the NHL level. Balance and grit are foreign to him. And though Dubas has some shining qualities for a hockey guy, he's simply not qualified, and thus sufficient to run the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club. Sadly, we know he's covered for at least this year. Giving him more time to do damage while trying to fix what ails this team. Anyway, here's what needs to be done: Babcock needs to go...immediately. Bring up Sheldon Keefe for this season anyway, and give him his shot to right the on ice ship. A backup is needed...so needed, but the cap situation needs to be fixed...at least temporarily. Unfortunately, Dubas spent millions more than he should have for the core he signed. Yes, the four headed monster. Now it's time to deal with reality. One of Matthews, Marner, or Nylander needs to go. Leafs have too much of one thing and desperately need to build towards more balance and shoring up the D. This will be achieved with actively looking for the best deal they can. Typically, don't trade Matthews. I would focus on Marner or Nylander. Too bad not many teams will take Marner at the money he's being paid. Leaving Nylander to be traded to free up cap space and get a half decent return. What I would not do, is trade anymore first round picks. This team needs to continue putting high end talent in the pipeline. Once Nylander is traded, and maybe even getting a responsible top 4 D in the deal, Leafs can then deal with Barrie and Ceci. I'd rather bring up, at least Sandin along with Keefe and begin his NHL career. He'll make mistakes, but at least is affordable to have in the lineup. We should now have a new coach (and probably assistants..special teams are a joke at the moment). More cap space to find a pretty good backup, hopefully an affordable top 4 D who's responsible in his own end, and a new outlook to give it the ole college try for the rest of the season. As for the on ice issue, I'd start sitting players, no matter who they are, if they don't give it their all each and every game. This includes standing up for one another, going into the corners for more than a stick check, and playing the game like they are playing game 7 of the Stanley Cup final...each and every game. At this point, we should now have a team that tries, a team that understands players will be sat out if they don't, and a team that inspires fans and each other...regardless if they make the playoffs or not. Keefe will need to implement his own system. One he thinks he can win with at this level. Regardless, learning positioning, playing with grit, all the while understanding players who continue to be inconsistent, regardless of who they are, will be benched, and eventually traded if they don't get with the program. Finally, in the summer, evaluation of every piece of the club need be assessed. Not just internal assessment, but by bringing in some outside perspective with how to proceed. Meh, I can supply an entirely different way to move forward, but at least this is one way to get things back on track. Bottom line, the foundation of this team is not put together correctly.

cal troy what Toronto needs is Raimo Summanen. Coached Avangard to 2012 Khl finals but got fired mid contract(might have something to do with hitting players with trash cans). Next season after 7 game loosing streak the GM told the team that unless their performance improves drastically right now he's going to fire the coach and hire Summanen back. Avangard won next 5 games.

It’s fun as a Caps fan seeing you have to watch the Islanders do better because I secretly cheer for Trotz aka the best coach in the NHL for a long time. I love seeing people finally find out that Babcock is nothing more than a coach that has been past it for almost half a decade if not more. Leafs would’ve maybe won a cup or gone way deeper with Trotz because he can make a team work as a unit. His staff make goalies next level with a defense that keeps a tight ship along with an offense that can get it done if not more depending on the weapons a available. Babcock was the sexy hire but not the best, which should’ve been clear.

I'm completely indifferent this season. I'm not watching intently until I see a change. More than likely in the coaching. I think I'm getting to the point of getting more excited about Babcock being fired, than I was about getting him.

It's time to ask, who is responsible? The Players? The Coaching Staff and Management? The Schedule? For sure the Players are required to be content and professional, with some form of ability to adapt, and continue to learn. Coaching and Management should be required to do the same, most importantly when in comes to adapting and learning. Being, stuck in your ways and having an expectation, is different then, having an expectation and being able to adapt and learn.
