Dewar should stay if possible. Everyone else should just be assessed on value at this point, trim the excess and pick up cheap, meh players to fill roles while focusing on building on the already passable defense (it needs a lot of work but all the pieces are there) and getting a goaltender you can actually ride.

Not a curse, bad GM, how you don't get a goalie for 6 years is self harm, someone remove all sharp objects from Toronto. At this point you sell a top three guy and 2 supporting players to get a goalie because they'll never win with this roster, and all you're doing is ruining the top 3 players confidence in big games anyway, so you're not doing anyone any favors by holding them together. Keep Matthews and get rid of Nylander or Mariner in a trade for a legit goalie, doesn't matter which one.

My favourite part was when Keefe removed Dewar to screw up the only line that was working. Then added Brodie, who had an entire year of proof showing he would do exactly what he did. Then scored no PP goal, because Keefe thinks the PP is "good" as is.
@gormros8 ай бұрын
Removing Dewar was the first truly fireable offense of the playoffs so far in my opinion. Before that I was feeling "well if they win this round he stays, if not he's gone". But for me that seals the deal, it was a comically stupid move that immediately showed itself as the stupid move it was. The second test will be if Sammy starts the next game. If that's the case, just fire Keefe on the spot because they're losing anyways and it saves time. Having no coach would be the same difference. In fact at least it would be funny to watch the players trying to run their own lines so it'd actually be preferable.

I was at the game tonight and you're spot on. Rarely a rush chance because they seem to prefer to drop pass every damn time and let the Bruins get back in position. Even worse when then they turn back at their own line just to cough it up over and over. Imo they're always looking for that perfect shot on the pp. If you're going attack it like that you've got to move the puck quickly 2-3 times max.

Debrusk has as many goals and 1 less point than all of the core 4. Just blow it up and restart at this point.
@gormros8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately 2 of the 4 can't be moved, Tavares won't be moved unless he refuses to take a pay cut because he has a lot of influence in the org, and while Marner can be moved by signing him onto a temp contract then yeeting him, there's a chance they bungle that contract and no one wants to take him. Tough situation but hopefully Tavares and Marner go. Nylander I'm happy enough to have around, he looks like he wants to be there. Matthews honestly I'm done with attitude-wise but he has unparalleled scoring potential so maybe a change up will light a fire under his ass
@Kevin617338 ай бұрын
@@gormros Those are the only 2 I thought of going. Tavares should be making at most 4mil and marner is only worth MAYBE 6 mil but if you get rid of both and use 10 mil of that cap to fill out D core and use another 10 mil for goalies + bottom 6 scoring you have a scary team. Theres too many "Stars" on that team who are all fighting for spotlight and it doesnt work. You look around the league and each team has 2 maybe 3 solid scorers and point getters while others are support and also put up numbers. Oilers have Hymen Mcdav Drai and Avs have Mackinnion Rant and Makar. For the leafs it should be Matthews Nylander Rielly. Matthews and nylander can either be the same line with depth scoring for lines 2 and 3 or split them up and have support on each line to help them. You also need a solid 2# dman and you just dont have that. They need major change to go deep in the playoffs
