So as a goalie who’s played up to a decent competitive level. I can tell you Sammy is in a really dark place. Like I think most people get that but if you’ve played net before and seen the goals he’s let in it’s like bad. I’m talking very dark. Like the yips is an understatement and I really feel sorry for him. Also the debate on whether to play or not really comes from the causation of his mental issues. If they’re external, then playing him, won’t fix the problem and just following the story and seeing him play, I think it might be an external issue.

As a fan who went to the game tonight it was one of the most depressing and embarrassing moments I’ve ever had as a fan. Leafs fans outnumbered sabres fan, families coming together around Christmas time showed up in massive numbers. I went with my dad we are maybe able to go once every two years. It was pathetic and insulting to see that performance in front of thousands of your own fans who travelled to a different country to watch you play. Waste of hard earned money and time

You could have had a Michelin star dinner and a hosted game night with your family. Instead you got a bunch of millionaires who are supposed to be specialists, unable to focus for a couple of hours. Legitimately Matthews and Knies hit this game, and even the struggling part of the game with their hearts. Mariner did his wizzard stuff as much as he could but at least one goal... deep into their poor morale, was his fault too (the point is he started strong.) The whole first half of the game I kept being bewildered by how it was always looking like an odd man rush on sammy, even if there were 4 leafs around the goal, the plays looked like odd man rushes, or they were just totally screened on sammy. Legitimately, 2 of the 5 on sammy were "golie, do you have it? Not today? darn." and even those were about his team failing infront of him. I had honestly hoped switching out to jones was going to be a slap in the face "you know he's not fresh, PLAY WITH DEFENSE IN MIND" but the team absolutely failed that. Nothing could wake up these millionaire professionals out of whatever mindset they were in. Matthews, Knies, and Mariner I saw give a passionate effort, honestly the first 15min of game, even with the score and D play, I thought "these guys are on fire, all they need is to hit the locker room and snap into it." and those three came out in p2, but the team gave up as they often do in p2. That's the game in my view.

Everyone has their limit. Mine was spending $500 for a set of tickets that my dad and I went to see our first game since 2011. It was against Chicago on a Saturday night in 2020. They Lost 6-2. In that moment, I told my dad I’m not mad I spent the money, I’m mad because they don’t care. The only way they will get it is if we stop watching them live , and just maybe they will try harder. Win or lose this team gets supported… and that’s a recipe for FAILURE.

After loosing to CBJ 9-4 I genuinely wanted us to get cooked in our home building bc I feel like that’s the only way the organization will realize they are a dumpster fire. Sharks fan here, and same. ...though I feel like I'm being unfair. I'm just used to complaining about the Sharks' goaltending ever since Jones declined. Blackwood is actually looking pretty damn good for us, he has his share of off games but he's absolutely playing his heart out. But there's only so much even an excellent goalie can do when the rest of the defense is taking a collective shit. I told my wife the other night, right after the Leafs lost to the Rangers, that they were going to be in for a fight in Buffalo. And that was only because Buffalo had been embarrassed as well, losing 9-4 at home to the Blue Jackets ! So what happens ? Leafs put up a major stinker, and now they themselves have to play Columbus next. If you think Toronto will bounce back and beat the Blue Jackets, you are sorely mistaken. After Saturday, and going into the Christmas break, Leafs will be on a three game regulation loss losing streak, with no answers on defence, no answers in goal, just a Core Four of highly paid marshmallows who only think in terms of ME ME ME ! And to think, Joseph ( CALL ME ) WAHHHLLLLL isn’t due to return until February ! I have a funny feeling that I will be watching a lot of LFR’s in the near future 😂

That was the first game all season where the Sabres had their top 6 all healthy, same group from last year and the chemistry was noticeable. Aside from getting consistent goaltending, I think the Sabres are only a couple players away from being a serious playoff team. This game has hopefully brought new life to Buffalo. They’ve underperformed all year (Thompson only has nine goals shockingly). Our highest goal scorer has 14, and they haven’t won more than two games in a row. Had we lost and gone five below .500 to 13-18-3, that goes from bad to too much to recover from to make a playoff spot type of bad. Instead, we showed up and beat a great team. Hopefully we can repeat our success with the rangers on Saturday as well.

EXACTLY Steve you’re cooking. Sammy NEEDS to get out of this funk in order for this team to be able to succeed. If they stop playing him it’ll be a mistake, Woll can reasonably hold his own but if Sammy is a non-option then the team will be fighting for a wild card spot when they should be in the presidential trophy race. This seems like the type of game that could be the wake up call the boys need. It’s almost the new year, pull it together or you’re gonna be golfing in April again.

@@junk3996 that’s a fair sentiment, he’s going to take a back seat to Woll as soon as he’s back obviously. What I mean to say is if we choose to stop playing him all together that’s over 3mill of dead cap space which this team can’t afford. I’d rather him be somewhat confident in his game and be able to grab a few wins rather than being absolutely unplayable like he is right now.

@@davidluzny3454 which Is why I said they *should* be president trophy contenders. We’ve been competing for it for a couple of years but this year it looks like they won’t even make the playoffs. If they don’t feel confident in the guy backing them up then they’ll never snap out of it. Again, I’m hoping this game is a wake up call, otherwise the seasons over already.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…. The Leafs have a stellar fall leading up to Christmas then play just above .500 the rest of the year and disappoint ing the playoffs. Happened in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and here we go in 2023.

That's a nice sentiment. I respect that. But you know, I said the same thing about Campbell. He will bounce back. He's a decent goalie he will get it together. Ok he had a good training camp this is going to be the year. Nope. Nope and Nope. There comes a point where goalies simply lose all confidence, They can't even remember the last time they played well. Goaltending is ninety percent mental. If your head is in the game, you can stop anything. If your head is constantly worry ing if the next one is going in, you are in for a long night. And that's where Sammy is. Now if the Leaf defence said, "You know boys, we gotta step up and put a wall in front of Sammy, so that he can get his confidence back" that might help. But we know that is not happening. This defence as it stands is bad. Like Oilers bad. It's all up to Sammy to do this on his own, but on this team, forget about it. The reason they lost Woll was because he had to stand on his head and sacrifice his body so that a piss poor Leaf effort could be turned into a win. The Leafs are in the same boat as Edmonton. Best team in the league some nights. Godawful bottom 5 team the rest. No consistency in any part of their game, right up to the coaching. Not a team you want to be playing goal for. That shit ass game where they cam back from 0-5 only to lose, was the final straw for me. You can get away with that crap regular season. In the playoffs, it means you are gone in 5 at best.
