After she left Porter'show the ratings sagged. Later he sued her, it was a long protracted court battle as they had recorded several duets together & even owned a small recording studio together. It was all settled out of court but during the time he was quite disrespectful to her in interviews. Years later he got into massive financial trouble & put his music catalogue up for sale. Dolly bought it & gifted it back to him because he had given her first big break in music to her. Giving us a lesson in forgiveness. She also went to the hospital & played and sang for him in the last days of his life. She is one of the world's greatest humanitarians too. She is an American treasure & we are lucky to have her!

Dolly built a large complex in a poor neighborhood in Nashville that brought in business and opportunity to people in the area. She laughingly called it the house Whitney built because she invested the royalties from Whitney's cover into that neighbor hood to give back. She is a great philanthropist. She has given away over a million books to kids from birth to age 5 to encourage reading and to make sure all little kids had access to books. She was honored by the Library of Congress. Its amazing how she has used her wealth to give back.

I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, expressing Parton's decision to pursue a solo career, the country single was released in 1974. The song was a commercial success for Parton, twice reaching the top spot of Billboard Hot Country Songs: first in June 1974, then again in October 1982, with a re-recording for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas soundtrack.

I'm not going to knock Whitney's version, she sung the hell out of it, but you can tell there was no emotional connection in her version. She was trying to go over the top with it and show off and showcase her voice. You can feel the emotion rolling out of Parton. It's intimate, it's about the words.

I ALWAYS love when I see a video like this and see the person slowly realize that it’s THE Whitney Houston song and that it was Dolly who actually wrote it and gave the song to Whitney after hearing her sing it for the first time. She was awestruck by Whitney’s vocal range and ability to hit those notes and pull so much power from her lungs and let that voice do it’s thing. You will never ever hear any voice like Whitney’s again. Dolly is my idol because I’m a country girl who grew up listening to her and Loretta Lynn and Reba and would always sing into my hair brush as a kiddo and pretend I had a voice like Dolly did, and still does…but Whitney Houstons voice just had this power and this ability to make you stop whatever it was you were doing and listen to this song. No matter how many times you hear it, that high note and climax to the song where the beat stops and you get that quick moment to prepare for the goosebumps you’re about to feel is something that only comes along once in a very great while. You FEEL that power in her voice and it just leaves you speechless. I can’t even begin to imagine just how proud her mother was when she heard her daughter sing that song for the first time. I think we can all agree that Dolly is an absolute national treasure, just like Whitney. But the fact that Dolly gave that song to Whitney and pretty much said “you are the one who is meant to sing this” shows how amazing a person she is. She loved Whitney every bit as much as the rest of us and recognized that even though her own version of this song was amazing and a country music classic, it was written in the stars for Whitney to have the song. Things like that are nothing short of serendipitous and I feel like even though Dolly wrote this song decades before Whitney covered it and made it what it is today, she was writing a song that would truly define Whitney’s music career and cement Whitney’s place in history as one of the most talented vocalists of our time. I know all that probably sounds cheesy and corny, but it’s true!

The guy is Porter Wagner. Dolly Rebecca Parton was born January 19, 1946, in a one-room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in Pittman Center, Tennessee.[2] She is the fourth of twelve children born to Avie Lee Caroline (née Owens; 1923-2003) and Robert Lee Parton Sr. (1921-2000). Parton's father, known as "Lee", worked in the mountains of East Tennessee, first as a sharecropper and later tending his own small tobacco farm and acreage. He also worked construction jobs to supplement the farm's small income. Parton has described her family as being "dirt poor". Parton's father paid missionary Dr. Robert F. Thomas with a sack of cornmeal for delivering her.

Ok both versions are vastly different but to say it’s not as good as Dolly’s is laughable. If that were the case Dollys version would have been at number one for 14 weeks and it wasn’t. Or it would have become the biggest selling single by a female in history and it didn’t. Both versions are great in different ways. Just say you prefer Dolly’s version. Also Whitney had always given credit to Dolly for writing such a great song. She never tried to take Dolly’s credit.

@@brandindash1863 . When Dolly released this you literally had to sell a million copies to get to number one in the charts, when Whitney released it you only had to sell 50,000 copies to get to number one. What does it take now?, 20,000 copies to top the charts?.

Dolly Parton had this song as a hit in three different decades -- 70s with this version, 80s with the version from her TV show, and 90s with Whitney Houston's version.

The gentleman who joined her afterwards was Porter Wagnor it was his variety show back in the 70’s and Dolly was under contract to do a certain number of shows and debut her new music in order to get a recording contract. That’s how a lot of the OG’s got record contracts. Dolly wanted out of her contract with the variety show so she struck a deal with Porter that if she could write a song that would convince him that she deserved to be on her own he would let her go. So that weekend she wrote I Will Always Love You, and she also wrote Jolene which turned out to be 2 of her biggest hits. When Whitney asked to sing/record the song Dolly got huge royalties from the song and she used those royalties to build Dollywood theme park in her home town so that families who were coal miners could have a better job as most of the mines were being shut down and families needed jobs/health care without having to relocate. Dolly also started a literacy program that provides K-5 kids with books free of charge all over the US. She is a very savvy business women.

Yes this is a very beautiful song and that guy is Porter Wagner from the Porter Wagner Show Dolly was one of his back up singers and once in a while he would let her sing one of her songs and eventually she quit the show and became a Star 🌟. And the rest is history.

That song was written for Porter Wagner. It was her I am leaving and I thank you and love you for everything you have done for me. I don't believe she was on the show anymore. Could be mistaken about that but that was her farewell song. Beautiful.

What does need have to do with anything? Even if she didn't donate literally millions of dollars to various charities, which she does, all artists deserve to be compensated for their creative work. She earned that money by creating an asset, and then managing it well.

@@hannalind7581 if you ever meet dolly and talk to her, she is a jewel!!! She's been open minded for years!!! Im a part time studio musician. We backed her up for a show because her normal band didn't make it due to vehicle breakdown. She gave us sheet music and chord charts/tabs and I think we did a decent job. She said we were fantastic and she meant it. I'm jewish,Jewish, the bassist and drummer are a gay couple and she didn't give two shits!!!
