You can’t compare Whitney and Dolly. They’re both powerhouse singers. I’ve been a fan of them both since I was a child and clearly for good reason. For me, Dolly’s version is so tender and sweet. "I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, expressing Parton's decision to pursue a solo career. As per Wikipeida. This song is sung as it was intended by Dolly. When Life's stresses are upon us what comes out of us shows who we are. This is who Dolly Parton is. Blessings

I like both versions. Don’t quote me on this but I believe it was written for Porter Wagner when Dolly moved on with her solo career. It was a song expressing her friendship and gratitude towards him for giving her a start. I feel that you can hear that the song is not that type of love song. In the version sung by Whitney in the movie, The Bodyguard they did a great job also in making it a romantic love song. Whitney also sung it beautifully.

Whitney sings this like a production number almost a opera , Dolly sings it like she lived it and that’s a massive difference
