dolores o'riordan WAS the cranberries. they'll never be whole without her. she wrote the songs, played the music, and sang her heart out.

Nice, but I think Dolores wasn't The Cranberries. The Cranberries were Dolores. The magic of the band was in the combination of a very good rhythmic base with the best female rock vocalist of all time (IMO). The rhythmic base that was formed by the best drummer of the 90s (Fergal), a solvent guitarist and a bassist with his own style. The magic was also in the harmonious combination of these 4 musicians, and the icing on the cake was Dolores's heavenly voice.

@@Llucmajorer1 maybe you're right. it's just that dolores had such a glorious and unique voice -- with any other vocalist, they just wouldn't have been the cranberries. she was so feckin IRISH, kwim? i loved the gaelic lilt she had. but maybe she was the tip of a very strong pyramid. the bass line was always powerful, the percussion, the strings -- it was such a beautifully expressed sound.

So many amazing tracks that Dolores left us. One of the few bands that you can listen to the entire album and not want to skip any tracks. The Cranberries have a number of deceptively slow starts on their tracks before changing things up. She was only a teenager when she penned this song. You should watch some of the live performances on here so you get to see what a character Dolores really was. Still find it a really hard listen the last album the band recorded from her demo vocals after her death. The band gets a lot of it's characteristic sound from the inventive drumming of Fergal Lawler. Dreams is a great example of this.

She passed away in 2018, on the VERY DAY she was supposed to be in the studio to reprise her iconic vocals on the Bad Wolves version of "Zombie". They were actually the ones who called and had the hotel check on her because she was late to the recording session. She loved their version AND the fact that, 25 years later, they wanted to reiterate the same sentiment that she had in the original "Zombie". The Bad Wolves were devastated by her passing and decided to release their version as a tribute to Delores, donating the proceeds to her children. Their version (minus Delores') vocals, is exceptional!! They paid tribute to her in the most beautiful and haunting way in the Video. Knowing this, maybe a 2nd reaction to Bad Wolves cover/tribute of "Zombie" is in order???

Many Irish singers have been influenced by traditional Irish music such as Sean-nós . Since the Irish language has a lot of these traditional inflections of the voice which can be created in English and keep it Irish. It’s quite lovely actually you hear it in Sinéad O’Connor Bono of U2 and many others from ireland.
