He had valued his relationship with the countries in the region but I don't think they had valued what he was trying to do- build a strong Caribbean Common Market that can compete with other European Markets. I will always respect and love this man; intelligent, articulate and a visionary. He was definitely ahead of his time and a treat to many that why they still try to dirty his Legacy. Guyanese people had pride in themselves under his leadership. Today, we can see many of the things that he talked about and was trying to steer not only Guyana but other Countries in the Region away from manifested. They talked about Electoral Fraud back then but look at one particular Develop County which had not 1 but 2 allegations of such leveled against it! Don't point your finger when your hands are dirty!

Mr Burnham was undoubtedly a suave , cunningly and articulate speaker in Guyana and the Caribbean speaker. He spent a few years in England while studying law and he actually adopted the Queens English because his tone and accent sound very similarly. Despite all those sugar coating tones, he is still being remembered as a traitor to the Guyana economy. He was ofcourse defending himself about the continuum rigging of elections and has refused USA Carter Center to overlooked it until when President Desmond Hoyte ' s children got in a fatal accident in a car crash , both girls died then he was given the opportunity as President .President Desmond Hoyte and his wife were grieving terribly and understandably for their sad loss Rest in Heavenly Eternal Peace to all of them ; President Hoyte realised that living in a world of deceptions is never right so he allowed the CARTER team to enter Guyana to oversee the election as Burnham was using his own tactics to continue to defraud. GOD IS SLOW BUT SURE. Since The Carter came in to observe the election, the PPP was able to win the election because President Hoyte was not going to live by Mr Burnham's regime and he wanted to bridge the division between the two major parties. Kudos to him and in 1992 PPP was victorious. I will never stop thanking President Hoyte for standing up for DEMOCRACY and brought back contraband foods in our country. He raised the Sugar workers payments and gave them a good pension..Hail to the late President Hoyte. He was totally different from Granger and Hamilton Green. Granger knew about the corruptions then but instead of changing for better for the nation, he unsurprisingly adopted to Burnhamite kind of corrupted regime. PEOPLE , WE MUST REMEMBER DECEPTION NEVER LASTS , THERE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE GOOD OVER EVIL. President Burnham never lived on to enjoy tearful and oppressed Nation's blood money. GOD IS CERTAINLY IN CONTROL, NOT MAN.

Forbes had a good vision for the Guyanese people(at least when he got into power) he encouraged them to be self-sufficient, become subsistence farmers to grow what they eat being independent of foreign commodities (kinda what Ghandi instituted for the Indians in India ). However, however, that vision was destroyed when self-centeredness and and greed over took him, he was not willing to share the goodness he enjoyed with his fellow Guyanese people. This was attested by his very own sister and those who knew and worked for him... My uncle was one of those people that worked for him for over 15 something yrs until his death...

@@tristabenton9266 I don't think you know facts about Forbes, I'm not speaking from partisan or ignorance, I lived in a home with people that worked for him. Forbes had the luxury of everything he banned from the people of Guyana in his home... when I say the people of Guyana I mean Indian, Negros, Amerindian etc. As a matter of fact he was more harsh and vengeful on his own people for reasons only he knew. His friends were the rich Indians in Guyana. He Flew almost every weekend to Essequibo island just to drink and have a good time with rich Indians. But he had a hidden hatred for his own people, he knew by his ban of certain commodities his people would suffer the most. Then again, I'm not making up any of this stuff, my uncle worked for him...and he treated my uncle very good.

I have one simple question for all my good Guyanese friends,if this man (burnham)was such a great man with such great vision , then how come so many guyanese suffered on a daily basis for basic commodities such as flour ,oil kerosene etc. when the country have and had abundant resources?
@theelusiveone3693
@theelusiveone3693 8 жыл бұрын
I mean his vision was for Guyana to be "self sufficient" and rely on the resources now I was not alive around this time but my aunts were and they did not suffer or starve because they used there resources like planting a garden and or grinding rice as their flour . Now when he was in office he was putting up factories like the glass factory the textile factory and even their own electronics factory . Things that you saw in Guyana said "made in Guyana" now if you go to Guyana today no item on the shelves of stores say that . Now before this happened keep in mind Guyana had just gotten it independence and they were poor and could not afford to import canned goods and so on . So if they kept doing that then people would literally die of starvation . Now going back to factories he was planning on industrializing Guyana so they can export and expand on Guyana and its economy .
@theelusiveone3693
@theelusiveone3693 8 жыл бұрын
+TheElusiveOne 3 to elaborate more on the importing of products when they just had independence ... When Guyana got its independence as a young country if they were to keep importing food products without having anything to export or make money with then the country would have been bankrupt and people would not have anything at all since the economy would have been tapped out . Please keep in mind no country can become great without struggle just look at the US or the British or the French without struggle those countries could not become great just check their early history you will see people dying in the process of their country becoming great . Guyana was just starting to go through these struggles also as far as I know no one died during this era of Guyanese history . unfortunately Burnhams ideas were not carried out since those factories became abandoned after he died now if they were still up and running I can guarantee Guyana would have been a powerhouse in Caribbean region .
@theelusiveone3693

Dave Bhoj, Burnham, he's "a self-serving racist, dictator"? The concept of "racism" has been the Jaganites invention as a political "Apan Jaat" strategy which calls on the Muslim and Hindu Coalition to vote for "OWN RACE" - the 1957 PPP motto. Such is politics in Guyana even as we listen to the orator as he elucidates in proper Standard English. I do wish that Guyana's politicians undergo Speech and Communication Therapy so as to improve their diction in the eyes of the world. Burnham's most trusted advisors and friends were Guyanese East Indian Muslims and Hindus [of Pakistani and Indian heritage, respectively]:- the Luckoos, Singhs, Kissoons, Toolsies, Ramsaroops, Ramsahoyes, Lalls, Kawalls... just to name a few of Burnham's uppermost advisors and friends. Both Jagan and Burnham were inseparable "brothers". Burnham saw to it that neither harm nor suffering came upon Jagan, Janet and their children; Joey, Cheddi's son, was Burnham's God son, reportedly. For more than 22 & 3/4 - years, the PPP refused to entertain, let alone carry out an Inquest into the allegedly political death of Dr. Walter Rodney. Why? Oh, Conspiracy! Oh, what a neglect! "Dictator"? During Burnham's reign, there was always:- a) freedom of Worship B) airing of religious programmes on gov't radios C) retention of Hindu and Muslim nation- al Holidays D) *FREE Education from Kindergarten to University + E) Freedom of Speech Freedom of the Press. F) Moratorium on the Death penalty Is that the profile and credentials of a dictator?

In Guyana the races are: East Indians - not "coolies" or "Madras", AFRICANS - not "blacks", maybe "Negroes", Amerindians - not "Red", Chinese - not "Yellows", Portuguese - not "brown" or "pale" etc. Guyana is not United States, Canada, England ... There are NO "White" East Indians in Guyana. Not unlike Africans, they possess rainbow skin-tones from blackish to brown and browish. White, black, yellow, red, coolie, madras, etc are NOT race, ethnicity or nationality They are especially American Europeans' and American Civil Rights' clichés so as to create and justify ethnic confusion and division. The concept of Colours as ethnicities is street talk; you know it quite well - hence, your not writing "blacks" and "COOLIES". Colour-labels are the capitalist European artificial creation which you are contented to uphold.

Note how he quelled the questions on democracy; he did not give the journalists an ounce of time to answer their questions. The man rings up the horror that he was - self-serving, racist, dictator. I've lived through it, so I know. What a day it was when we learned that the Maker had mercy on the Guyanese people and took him away forever!

when the British hand over guyana to Burnham Guyana had rice,bauxite ,sugar diamond gold and most of all human resources where people could speak english,and not to mention a good infrastructure.now isnt that plentiful resources .Many countries around the world have far less and is better off than Guyana was under burnham.The British were willing to help burnham but burnham was bent on racist ideology and the ruin of his own country for his own greedy needs.he build a few things here and there to fool people and ruin the educational system so people will remain illiterate and he can rule over them at will.Thats the legacy of burnham.

I don't know if you are serious when you say that the British of all people were willing to help. Never in all my years of Geopolitical observation and analysis have I seen the British or Americans or any with a history of colonization, destabilization, subterfuge and just plain wicked foreign policy try to genuinely help anyone but themselves..I will even say that a few 3 letter agencies from up north and a few in Europe definitely had a hand in making sure Guyana's attempt at self sufficiency never succeeded.. these are the same folks using punitive measures against the economy and people of Venezuela for choosing a socialist model today .we must never apply oversimplified answers to complex problems..just a brother from Trini who looks on from a distance but wants to see all the peoples of the region succeed .. we are after all the same people..
