The US model C1 OLED we bought seems to not have the new "evo" panel found in our A90J. The SPD looks more similar to the 3S3C WOLED panel, and our unit doesn't exhibit the slight red tint when viewing off-axis that the newer panels seem to have. Some users are reporting online that their C1s have the new panel. At the moment, we don't know the extent of this and whether certain markets are receiving different panels. LG still publicly advertises that the G1 has the new panel and the C1 does not, so we won't know until they make a statement clarifying this. We will investigate the G1 OLED once we are able to buy one.

To add a little more to the color accuracy, D-Nice has pointed out that the 77-in LG OLEDs target different white point then the other sizes. The smaller sizes measure very well when using modified judd offset (7000k), whereas my 77 was closer to d65 (6500k). That would explain the discrepancy in the high grayscale errors you guys got versus mine after turning peak brightness off.

I have c1 and i noticed it showed a red tint when i view off angle. So does that means i have new evo panel? I was worried about the red hue tbh but my tv seems better than the cx i have. Both are 48” but i ordered my c1 directly from lg and not a retail. I don’t have all the tools to know the panel i have 😂

Rtings. Please can you let me know this. You begun a burn in test on oleds many years ago which has been accurate and Unforchinitly put me off buying an oled for gaming. However, your oled in testing is the LG B6 OLED, which suffers from image retention within minutes to 10 minutes. However, newer oled models have more features now and dont suffer from this as quickly. Will you be doing an oled test for a 2020 model to see how those results turn out ? I feel this test of LG B6 OLED would not be accurate with todays oled tech. I want one for gaming so would like to know thanks

@@christianmarmol3230 If last year is any indication, I don't think the 48" CX ever really dropped in price and stayed $1499 throughout the year. At least here in the US it didn't. The bigger sizes did receive price drops. Maybe that changes this year, but it's taking a gamble.

A question regarding the burn-in issue. I know you mention that there is a risk, but that most people will probably not encounter it. How much of a risk would you say it is for viewers who use the TV often to watch sports like football or soccer where the are many static elements on the screen; would you say its something to worry about or just something to be aware of?

Let me ask, what does it do to have the display bring itself down to 30Hz for 30FPS games?
@skins4thewin
@skins4thewin 3 жыл бұрын
Only problem is they say it only goes down to 20Hz when using HDMI 2.1, which means retro gaming is out for this, as most retro consoles don't offer HDMI 2.1. Shame.

@@skins4thewin I'm not sure what are you asking but when tv can display variable refresh from 20 to 120hz it's mean you don't see stutter in that range. Some games from pc or consols can't handle stable 30 fps and sometimes drop to ie 25 fps. With vrr in that range TV will sync frames to avoid stutter and display uncut frame. For your second coment. I think you can't expect vrr from older consol as their chips aren't capable to support that. It's not TV manufactures fault but those old consols are just old.
@skins4thewin
@skins4thewin 3 жыл бұрын
@@mateuszbuczma1956 VRR has nothing to do with the console itself, it has to do with the TV. What I'm saying is that this TV will not drop down to 20HZ unless it's being fed an HDMI 2.1 signal. Very straightforward statement, am not sure what you don't understand about it.
@mateuszbuczma1956
@mateuszbuczma1956 3 жыл бұрын
@@skins4thewin english is my second language :) I wasn't sure if VRR depends on console or gpu chips. So if it's not problem with console I'm curious why they demand hdmi 2.1 Also I have PS1, PS3 and xbox 360 so lack of vrr with that consols is sad information also for me.

i can't believe warm 50 is accurate. it looks so brown it's almost like a projector using a paper bag as a screen. i use warm 10 and that looks as neutral as possible. talking about a 48" used as a monitor that suffers from hue shift with borders being a lot cooler than the center of the screen, which might be the culprit. i think mine has the new panel. looking from extreme angles it tints back to pinkish like the center does when you're close. gotta check if my b9 does that. [edit] it doesn't. fuck, i like the old panel better. this is going to constantly annoy me for as long as i use this screen as a monitor, i can already tell.

What about Gaming ghosting and screen burn? I've had an LG OLED C series for 4 years since 2017, and my current model has Destiny 2's stat screen plus the Netflix logo burnt into the screen. I just sent it off to PC WORLD/CURRY'S and they've told me they cannot repair it, and will give me a credit to buy a new TV. Now this C1 LG is the one I want to get, but I don't want to encounter the same problems all over again.

Unfortunately, all OLEDs risk having permanent burn-in, but it shouldn't be a much of an issue with varied content. However, if you're playing a lot of the same content, and display a lot of static images (logos, stat screen as you mentioned, etc), then it likely increases the risk.

The micro-LED technology is still hideously expensive. Mini-LED is currently closer in cost and performance to OLED but the Samsung models are still more expensive than a C1. Perhaps we will see mini-LED drop in cost below OLED as the technology proliferates. LG and Nanosys have demonstrated engineering prototypes of Quantum Dot Electro-luminescent displays that they think could be the next “ultimate” display technology, but that would be years off, assuming that it actually pans out.
@KindOldRaven
@KindOldRaven 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion they do improve quite drastically.. ..in terms of pricing and compatibility with my second hobby: gaming. The C1 came to market at 300 bucks less (55'' reference) than the CX. The CX 55 could be had for like 1000-1200 so I might finally pick one up ;p But yes, true micro-led or other (nearly) self-emissive things (like true QLED) would be the ideal panel. But until we've seen them on the market for a few years they'll be extremely expensive and perhaps they won't even be that good. We'll have to wait and see. I do know that most mini-leds this year aren't really all that fantastic outside of the ludicrously expensive models. Mini-led ain't it for me. Blooming on 2021 Samsung Minileds is slightly better than on the Q90T I currently have, but as soon as you toggle that game mode it's the exact same or even worse.

Filmmaker Modes are generally pretty close to the custom settings we use (depending on their implementation). Expert Dark Room gives us the most ability to customize the settings which is partly why we use it!

CORRECTION at time stamp 6:13 The C1 and G1 use the same panel. “EVO” is NOT just a new panel, “EVO” includes all the parts of the TV. LG has changed their marketing for “EVO”, and you don’t have to get the G1 to get it. @Rtings please make the correction, G1 and C1 use the same panel but your telling viewers they are different. Please be honest and make the correction.
@KindOldRaven
@KindOldRaven 3 жыл бұрын
Added correction: There are several C1s that show the ''EVO'' color distribution and thus share panel-type with the G1, but also plenty that show the same distribution as the CX - thus not the same panel. Vincent from HDTVTest has shown this. You're correct on EVO being panel *and* chipset though. With regards to the C1, it appears there's 2 different panels in rotation, but both lead to the same result when it comes to picture quality. A C1 with the newer panel won't look any different than one with the older type. Margins of error excluded.

great review as always. Thanks. is it true that C1 does not support DTS decoding? I play a lot of content from my NAS and most of those movies are in DTS format - just wondering if there is a workaround to it than using a separate media player..

Oh hey the tv that hasn’t changed since 2018. In 2018 it was “the c8 is basically the c7 with hdmi a newer chip, in 2019 it was “well the c9 is the c8 with a different processor and hdmi 2.1” the cx was again much of the same thing. The c1 is a new os and a “new” processor yet again

Depending on how much light comes in, you could find it distracting. OLED TVs tend not to get bright enough to overcome glare when watching content and are better suited for dark rooms.

They're very similar overall. However, we would give the edge to the CX for your needs because of the better reflection handling and increased SDR & HDR brightness. Just note though that they may not be bright enough to overcome the glare of your brighter room.

You say the cons are stutter with low frame rate but doesn't this happen with all new tv's these days? With standard broadcast content from the UK I have had major stutter with 2 Sony's and a samsung(2020). I presume you have a fairly large British audience so maybe you could do a section where you test your tv's with our 'Freeview' content to see if any are better or worse, it would be very useful especially on the A80J if you review it. Thanks.

I‘m checking your website each day to see if you finally got a chance to buy the G1. 😁 I already checked it in a store and liked the brightness but not the off-axis tint it had. The C1 and A90J did not have that despite also featuring the new panel. If you can find out why that is happening that would be amazing. Thanks for the great work.

It's strange since for 1080p and 1440p there is a decrease in input lag when using VRR (for LG CX). Could you please clarify it? Thank you so very much ! You guys are the best .

@RTINGSdotcom
@RTINGSdotcom 2 жыл бұрын
The best tip is to try and avoid the same static content. Burn-in is a cumulative issue, so it's more about how long something is on screen total, not how long it's been on for one session. Here is where we talk about the burn-in prevention features on the C1: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c1-oled/settings#oled-screen-saver-settings
