Can confirm how colorful and vibrant the S90D looks. I've had mine for a month now, and the only minor gripes I have are the low bitrate content smoothing (which i knew wouldn't be the greatest going in, but isn't completely terrible), and how the depth enhancer can sometimes blur the picture a tad depending on where it 'thinks' you're looking, but beyond that it's the best tv I've ever owned. It's stupid bright, has fun colour and contrast boosting options, is very versatile in game mode to go with the auto genre tone mapping, and upscales everything you could possibly want to watch so well that it feels like you're watching all of your old favourites for the first time! Could the processing be a tad better? Definitely, but this tv more than makes up for it with everything else it offers. Highly recommend, especially for the price!

Great review, however…… I believe it was a real miss not mentioning that QDOLED is not available with the 42-48 & 83” S90D models. These display sizes use WOLED panels. Given this display type is completely different none of the assertions made in this video can be reliably associated with the above model sizes. Unfortunate, given many people may not realize this and purchase a 42 48 or 83” television believing it is QDOLED and offers the attributes attributed in this video.

Seems like the same situation from 2023, LG really should have brought MLA to the C series, or reintroduced something between C & G series like there used to be so that they can be competitive on price against the S90C/D. I like WebOS and LG's mitigation against burn in but S90C/D just seems like a no brainer over the C3/4. I wish Samsung would stop being so stubborn with Dolby Vision/DTS as well.
@stephenpatterson80564 ай бұрын
Samsung's second gen QD-OLED, based off of rtings testing, is superior to LG's efforts in terms of burn in mitigation. G3 had more burn in after 8 months than S95C had after 12 months. Also, DV really just isn't an issue for these TVs. The QD-OLEDs don't need it. The MLA equipped LG models don't really need it. LG is getting wise to that since some of their LCD models dropped it this year. The main benefit of DV is dynamic HDR metadata. But when you have an OLED display with perfect contrast, black levels, and high peak brightness, well, suddenly there's no need for dynamic HDR metadata. That perk goes out the window

I'm really glad Samsung stepped into the OLED game, but personally, I just don't trust them anymore. Between the support bracket on this S90D being pushed under the motherboard, the S95B's regularly getting shipped with bent panels and our own Q60T breaking just after the warranty expired - which they all do apparently - I think they're just too much of a gamble. Add to that some weird bugs (especially in 50Hz content) and lacklustre customer support, I'm not getting a Samsung again. Tbf, LG's customer support hasn't been much better me up until now. I've been trying to report a few bugs since january, but they're still convinced it must be either a hardware issue on our c3 or something to do with the devices we're connecting to it.

There's no visible magenta tint to the QD-OLEDs in person. It's only something that shows when trying to capture them on camera. Similar to how WOLEDs oftentimes have a teal tint when captured on camera. They also do not demonstrate raised blacks in a lit room. You have to really focus a light source on the panel to get it to do that. I have an S90C and viewing it during the day in my bright living room (non direct windows, no blinds) the screen looks black as could be. Dolby Vision will I suppose at this point just never leave certain people's wish list but on these newer OLEDs with their high brightness levels, DV really just isn't necessary anymore. It was great back when OLEDs had extremely low peak brightness and poor tone mapping of HDR10. But those days are well in the rear view. DV simply is not a particularly useful feature anymore. For certain display types, it NEVER was a useful feature

What's not being said is that on all REC 709 content (which is virtually 100% of content), both of these TV's have color accuracy so precise that you won't see the difference with the naked eye. Last year's S90C vs C3, I was in RC Willy and they had an identical SDR feed on the C3 and S90C and they looked identical to me in their filmmaker modes. There simply wasn't any appreciable difference between them, so I picked the C3 because it has more robust burn-in protection features. Also, this video's HDR comparison they failed to tell you that Samsung doesn't have Dolby Vision and LG does and Dolby Vision is fantastic because LG is the only manufacturer who does Dolby Vision correctly and this year's model I believe let's you have fully accurate Filmmaker mode with Dolby Vision by default. IMO, the C4 is the winner due to the Dolby Vision and better picture processing that LG has had the past few years that is neck and neck with Sony's XR Clear processing. Samsung is still a fine OLED and frankly either one you buy will give you a high-end picture. Any differences in the picture with Filmmaker modes on is pretty much not something you'll notice or worry about once you are watching the set at home with a good content source.

@johnb49054 ай бұрын
This is a perfect case of going off the measurements and not noticing that the C4 is brighter and gasp, has better color saturation with content than the S90D. Samsung is doing a poor job of optimizing the QD OLED panel so far this year. Just more follies from rtings.

Green tint on the C4? I have seen a couple models and have not noticed that. Wonder if you got a bad model as you are the only one claiming the green tint issue.

I just got a 48" b4(my old TV/monitor for my pc was a 32" 1440p 75hz (TN panel I think). Huge upgrade and from what I hear the c4 doesn't have 4:4:4 mode which is important for pc use. Seems LG messed up this Gen on the c series. Now I'm just hoping the next Gen of gpus release soon so I can upgrade my gtx 1080 (trying to avoid going Nvidia and don't want to buy a current Gen gpu with new stuff hopefully around the corner).

Trying to predict which brand will or will not be reliable is like trying to predict which way the wind will blow

This dude exagerates a lot with his descriptions or is clearly biased. 1000 USD is not spending "a bit more" for the G4 and the difference between both tvs in terms of image quality isn't so big as he makes it seems. I went to see both tvs personally and could not find any green tint on the lg.

Current prices on these makes them far too expensive. I would just buy an LG C1 or C2 2nd hand instead. They are both brilliant TV’s, my C1 is still going strong just as great as when I first bought it new just before Covid lockdowns. The only benefit to me on the new ones would be built in DTS on C4 but seeing I use a workaround through my Yamaha receiver that isn’t a big deal anyway. I use a Toshiba XE1 HD DVD player, Oppo 203 4k player which has split HDMI for sound and picture anyway , PS5 and Series X and everything still looks stunning on the C1.

@stephenpatterson80564 ай бұрын
There isn't a panel lottery with S90D. It depends on the size. 55, 65, 77 will be 2nd gen QD-OLED panels. Any other size will be WOLED LG panels.

Not a personalized response. Most people watch only from streaming services. Netflix UHD tier offers Dolby Vision. Wouldn't that make the LGs picture quality superior over the non Dolby Vision? I'm very much enjoying my C3 with Dolby Vision. Makes all the difference.

So Samsung's been refusing to disclose whether their budget and midrange OLEDs use WOLED or QD-OLED, your reviews pretty much conclude that the S90D is QD (or at least these batches are), but could you take a look at the S85D to confirm its panel tech?
@stephenpatterson80564 ай бұрын
S85D will almost certainly be all WOLED; S90D in 55, 65, 77 will be 2nd gen QD-OLED; S95D will be 3rd gen QD-OLED. Only real annoyance is with the S90 series offering various sizes in WOLED as well. It would be a more concise lineup to just have the full S85 line be WOLED, S90 just have the 3 2nd gen sizes and S95 have the 3 3rd gen sizes

So you know in Canada if the 65 model s90c is a qd Oled panel ?
@stephenpatterson8056Ай бұрын
@@boltongame5054 55 and 65 S90Cs are all QD-OLED. But they may either be a 1st gen or 2nd gen panel. The 2nd gen panels perform a bit better. All 77 models are 2nd gen QD-OLED because there were never 1st gen panels in that size.
@amiauslander4 ай бұрын
I would love to see anyone do a comparison of the S90D QD-OLED to the S90D WOLED version. If anyone has done it please point me in their direction. Without it I am not sure anyone can make a proper S90D review as customers often will not know if the review applies to the one they are getting.
@stephenpatterson80564 ай бұрын
It's all size based with the S90D. If you're getting a 55, 65, or 77 you're getting QD-OLED. Any other size will be WOLED. As for comparison, this video essentially is showing you that. The WOLED S90D models will basically look like the C4, except maybe without the off angle color tint
@amiauslander4 ай бұрын
@@stephenpatterson8056 Unfortunately there are a couple problems with this comment. 1. The sizes you refer to only apply to the US market. Europe, for example, seems only to be getting the QD-OLED version in 65". 2. There are many problems with assumption based assessments. Just one example, Sony uses Samsung panels and those TVs review very differently.
