LG Dishwasher Model # LDP6797ST Review

LG sent me out this dishwasher to test and review and have been using this dishwasher for over 2 months now and I really like it. First off I got this thru the Home Depot seeds program for free but this is still an honest review and if your interested in this dishwasher you can check it out on Home Deopt's website, here is the link.

I really like this dishwasher, It does an excellent job cleaning dishes, it has a good looking stainless steel front with a recessed handle and hidden controls on top of the door and it has a fully stainless steel tub. It also has some really cool and unique features such as some WiFi capabilities, a quiet direct drive motor, a special third rack on top for silverware, instead of using a heat ring to dry the dishes it uses a special hybrid drying system that does not rely on a heating element instead it relies on the heat that is retained by the dishes and tub during the wash and rinse cycles to turn moisture in the tub into humidity, the warm moist air in the dishwasher is then pulled into a condensing duct in the door by a fan, the air then cools which causes the humidity to condense. Room temperature air is also drawn into the duct to help the air cooled down faster. When this moisture condenses into a liquid it is drained out. Because this special drying system does not use a heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher you can safely put plastic in the bottom rack with out the worry of it melting which is a feature I really like! It was also very easy and straightforward to install, the mounting brackets, power cord and drain hose are included however you have to provide your own water supply line. Installation is as easy as connecting your water supply line to the dishwasher and a hot water shutoff valve, connecting your drain hose to your garbage disposal or connecting it to your waste tee, wiring up your electrical plug and clipping it into place then plugging it in, then adjusting the feet on the bottom of the dishwasher so it is level side to side and front to back and finally pushing it into place and using the included hardware to screw it into place. Overall I am super happy with this dishwasher and am so glad LG decided to send it out to me to test, review and have. I want to be clear that even though LG provided me this dishwasher my review is totally unbiased. I highly recommend this dishwasher I think it is an excellent dishwasher and a great value! I have that same model. Had it for two months when it started smoking and melting plastic. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't home at the time, that it would have burned my house down. It was smoking really bad. And the smell 😱 well 7 technicians later it still is not running. I paid over 800 overall when I bought it and I've been washing dishes by hand for 3 months now. WTF LG? Anyway, they do not want to replace it. They said they will just keep sending techs until it is finally fixed. So good luck to those that plan on buying this unit. Don't leave home with it running. You might not find a home when you get back.

Thanks for doing the follow up video -- I am glad you didn't have anything negative to say about the machine since I got mine a few weeks ago. I learned from your video that there IS a rinse button! I didn't see those tiny words under some of the buttons and I thought, "How can this high end washer have no rinse?!?" NOW i see, it does!

Very nice dishwasher in gerneral, I really like the control panel and the steel finish outside. In my opinion the only flaw is the poor filter design! It’s kinda hard to reach specially in this kind of machines (without food grinder) you need to clean the filter every now and then. To summarize, yes it’s way better yet more quiet and efficient than old dishwashers like Kenmore or GE! Nice upgrade to your kitchen!

For sure I have enjoyed mine 👍 I actually replace a Kenmore I had that was only about 6-7 years old and that cost a few hundred dollars more than this one and it does a better job than my Kenmore ever did.

There is a slight noticeable difference but only if you have with a deep dish in a place where water can pool, like the bottom of our cups have a deep dished area in the bottom of them and water will pool in them but it's not a huge difference and I just flick the water off in the sink and put them away, other than that you really won't notice a difference and without a heat ring you can put plasticware on the bottom rack and there is no chance of it melting, also I like the third rack for your silverware because then you can take the basket out of the bottom rack which gives you more room for dishes down there. Another thing I love about this dishwasher is you do not have to pre-rinse your dishes at all, you just have to scrap the big chunks of food off and them put them in and they will come out sparkling clean, I was so in the habit of pre-rinsing dishes that it took me awhile before I would just put them in there without rinsing them off, in the manual LG actually tells you not to pre-rinse your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher! Also at first I thought that the Wi-Fi would be gimmicky but it is actually pretty cool and useful, it will tell you when the dishwasher is finished washing the dishes and it will let you know every 30 cycles that it's time to clean the machine and it will give you tips on what to use and how to clean it, you can also download different wash cycles and it will let you know when it's low on rinse aid and it does all this thru an app on your smartphone and you can also connect other LG appliances to that app if you have any other ones that have Wi-Fi connectivity. So when it comes right down to it I highly recommend this dishwasher and it is a huge bang for you buck, it normally costs $999 but you can find it on sale quite regularly for $899 and if your really lucky you will rarely find it on sale for $799. But even at $999 it is worth every penny!

I am in the Home Depot Seeds Program and each month I get to pick out 5 items out of about 1500 items that include everything that they sell at Home Depot, it's not often that you get expensive appliances like this, I actually got this in a bonus campaign which they sometimes will have in a month and it is first come first serve so I always have my phone pushing me email alerts cuz of that lol but I pick out 5 items a month and they send them out to me and I test them out and review them on their sight saying what I liked about them and what I didn't like about them and then I get to keep the items they sent me out. As far as the dishwasher you don't even need to rinse your dishes off before you put them in just scrap off the big chunks, LG actually says in the manual not to pre-rinse your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher, I also love how it has no heating element at the bottom because that way I can put plasticware on the bottom and it won't melt and also the top small 3rd rack that is made for cutlery is great cuz then you can take the basket out of the bottom rack freeing up room for more dishes and at first I thought it would be kinda gimmicky but I actually like the Wi-Fi features that it has. So all in all I would say this dishwasher is a great bang for your buck for how much it costs, especially when you can get it on sale!

Unfortunately you can't turn the dishwasher on with your phone but you can adjust all sorts of settings and have it notify you when it's finished running a cycle.

I think I'm going to go with this one. I am just a little concerned due to some reviews stating that parts are breaking early on, like the control panel. Also, some people have stated that cracks appear on the top. Does this washer have the auto-open feature? A slightly cheaper front control facing one does, so it would be a bummer if this one didn't.

No it doesnt have an auto open feature but the way it drys is by recirculating hot air from the wash cycle instead of using a traditional heat ring so I'm sure it has a simmilar effect. I have also read some bad reviews about it too but I've had mine 5 years and haven't had a single problem with it yet. Also it works better than the Kenmore I had before it which cost almost twice as much! I think it's a great dishwasher and I like the recirculating heat drying system because that means there's not a heat ring at the bottom so you can put plastic ware on the bottom and it won't melt.

Get the LG, I had a Kenmore before I got my LG and my LG is way better and it was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than my old Kenmore was as well!

RJ Moose As far as I remember you need to get into the SmartThinQ app on your phone and you should be able to look thru a list of products and find this dishwasher there and click on it and from there it should give you instructions on how to get it connected to your phone thru your home WiFi and under the delay start button there is a WiFi secondary button which you can activate by holding down the button for 4 seconds and that should get it ready for WiFi pairing with your WiFi network and phone and after that in the app it should tell you what you need to do to get it setup to connect to your phone, see if that helps and if not let me know.

Question about the noise lite pad. Can’t figure out how to get that back into the unit. Did your dishwasher have that?

If you mean the noise deadening pad around the outside of it yes and if I remember right there are some plastic clips holding it on that you can pull out.

Some people have said they have had problems with theirs but I've had mine over 4 years now and haven't had a single issue with it! It works better than the more expensive Kenmore I had before it. I had 3 separate issues with my Kenmore in 4 years time including a water supply fitting going out under it causing it to flood my floor. Also the racks used plastic wheels to roll them in and out and they broke and parts were really hard to find so i had to jerry rig them to fix them, also some parts broke off the racks and I couldn't get replacements for them It's nice that the LG has metal ball bearing tracks to roll the racks in and out cuz they are much more durable. Also my LG dishwasher gets my dishes cleaner than my Kenmore dishwasher did even though the Kenmore was a few hundred dollars more and that's before the LG went on sale!

Mine dries but the only drawback to not having a heat ring is it does not dry quite as well, the only thing I've had that doesn't dry well is deep recesses such as say a dished area in the bottom of a cup when it's upside down.

Yeah I love how this doesn't use a heat ring and instead uses that hybrid condensing drying system so that you can put plastic on the bottom rack without it melting cuz I was always running out of room to put my plasticware in my old dishwasher since I could only put it on the top rack and so much of what we use today is plastic, now with this new LG I always have plenty of room for my plasticware since I can put it on the both the bottom and top rack! Kelly Roy I sit 14 feet from it in my living room and I can hear it a little but it's still very quiet I don't need to turn up the volume on my TV when I'm running on the dishwasher, my house isn't an open design but there is a large open on both sides fireplace which the dishwasher is very close to and my couch is close to it on the other side also there's a very large entrance to my living room only 7 feet from the dishwasher and like I said it never bothers me when I'm in the living room watching TV, playing games or working on my computer. I think it's the quietest dishwasher we have had by far and the motor even has a 10 year warranty on it! Plus if you watched my video you'll see all the sweet features it has! Yes you can activate all the buttons with the door open, I have mine setup with the buttons hidden when the door is closed and when you are ready to start your dish washing cycle you simply press start and close the door within 4 seconds and your good to go so to sum it up yes you can hide the buttons and you can access all of them when the door is open.

I've been using this LG dishwasher for about 6 months now and it's been great, all the features on it are really cool from the third rack to the WiFi and it not using a heat ring to dry the dishes so you can put plasticware on the bottom without it melting and so on and it does an excellent job of getting the dishes clean without even prerinsing them, I was so used to prewashing dishes that it was a hard habit to stop but now I know I can just scrape the big pieces off my dishes and put them in this dishwasher and they will come out spotless! I have been extremely happy with this dishwasher. My last dishwasher I had cost hundreds more and it wasn't as nice as this one!

Do yourself a favor and don’t purchase lg dishwashers. I have a similar model that started acting up one month after warranty expired. Lg refused to do anything. Sometimes it doesn’t start at all and have to reset the breaker. Most common is that it shuts down mid cycle. Hear that chime in this video? Get used to it. It’s what you hear when it randomly shuts down.

I didn't know about the heating ring, though I've burned my finger on the lower part of a dishwasher before. Recycling heated water by blowing air through it is genius and a cool feature. Wish it had a bottle washer.

Yeah without the heat ring and having the drying condenser system is awesome, I love being able to put my plastic ware on the bottom rack! They do offer higher end models with the bottle washers but they are quite a bit more.

looking for a troubleshooting on this dishwasher. The lights in the middle are flashing and I'm not sure what they mean, Power is on but it won't start, only flashes those middle buttons. I cleaned out the filter and reset the dishwasher, still nothing.

If only the very middle white light on the front of the dishwasher is flashing and on the top where all the buttons are the center display is flashing and then when you try to press a button and in the very center it displays CL then this means the control lock is on so that no buttons can be pressed, to disable this hold down the Half Load and Energy Saver buttons at the same time for 3 seconds and it should make a tone letting you know that the control lock has been disabled and then you should be able to press and use all the buttons to activate and use the dishwasher. Let me know if this fixes the problem your having and if not I will see if I can troubleshoot it further

Hello there, Thanks for the video. I have the same dishwasher except it doesn't have a third rack. I've been using this dishwasher for almost a year and I am having a problem now. When I start the power button and it deafults to auto cycle. When I press start button after 4 seconds it keeps on blinking and doesn't start. I called LG and the representative asked me to rotate the wheels of the rack clock wise which I did and I started the cleaning cycle. But yesterday I tried using it again for my dishes and it didn't start and kept on blinking same way as before. Whay could be the issue?Thanks

I'm researching this product and a lot of the reviews complain about dishes not coming out completely dry. Can you address this from your experience?

jzratk Johnson Yeah say if you have a cup or a bowl with a intended area in the top it will not completely dry sometimes depending on how deep that area is and I will say yes it doesn't dry quite as well as a dishwasher that uses a regular heat ring to dry your dishes and it is a noticeable difference but it's not a huge difference. However I still prefer this dishwasher to one with a regular heat ring that is used to dry the dishes due to the simple fact that because it uses a hybrid drying system and does not use a heat ring in the bottom of the dishwasher tub to dry dishes I can put plasticware on the bottom rack and it will not melt or get warped and I find that feature is great for when I have a large piece of plasticware that does not fit well in the second rack I can put it in the bottom rack or if I have a piece of plasticware that is very dirty I can put it on the bottom rack where there are more spray jets and stronger water pressure to get it super clean, also if I'm simply out of room in the second rack for all of my plasticware I can put some in the bottom rack. So in summary yes there is a slightly noticeable difference in how well it dries compared to a dishwasher using a standard heat ring but it's not a very big difference.

jzratk Johnson Sure thing I happened to be up and my phone alerted me that I had a comment lol! Yes I love having the third rack cuz it's so nice to ditch the silverware basket out of the bottom rack which gives you much more room and also since all the times in the bottom rack fold down it's easy to fit anything down there and the third rack does a great job of cleaning your silverware cuz it has its own spray jet positioned above it and as far as silverware goes it has always come out totally dry for me when I have placed it in the third rack. It's a really great dishwasher it outperforms my old one that cost hundreds more, I don't even pre-rinse my dishes anymore I just scrape the big stuff off them and put them in the dishwasher and they always come out spotless, in fact LG actually tells you not to pre-rinse your dishes before putting them in this dishwasher in the manual! I definitely recommend this dishwasher it's great bang for your buck! I hope that helps to answer your questions and thanks for watching the video and commenting! 😊

Ok. Is there anyone else having a really anoying problem that the dishwasher keeps not working at all, like not turning on and such? And then after a random time period it suddenly starts working then doesnt work again!

No I haven't had any problems with mine. It sounds like you have some kind of electric problem it could be anything from a simple wiring fault in the plug to a problem with the circuit board in the washing machine. I'd check and make sure that the power wire going from the machine to the household wiring doesn't have any shorts and past that I couldn't say you would most likely need to call an appliance repair service, make sure to see if it's still under warranty first because if it is then LG should take care of it.

There are many quality issues with this dishwasher. I'm not sure if it's across the LG line but my experience with this specific dishwasher was so terrible that I will never buy anything LG again.

jochy cruz Yeah unfortunately when I installed it I totally forgot to do the installation video which sux, I wish I would have remembered to do the installation video on it! But it installs just like any other dishwasher, all you have to do it hook up a hot water supply line to it, run a drainage line from it to your garbage disposal, run a power cord from it to a 110 volt outlet, use the adjustments on the feet to level it side to side and front to back and then attach it to the top of your countertop with the supplied brackets or to the sides of your cabinets if your can't attach it to the underside of your countertop and it comes with everything but a water supply line so you will have to buy one of those. So it's pretty straightforward and it comes with good installation instructions so as long and your fairly handy you shouldn't have any problems installing it.

Paul Scott Ok I looked thru my instruction manual and your right the instructions in there on how to connect the dishwasher are crap. As far as I remember you need to get into the SmartThinQ app on your phone and you should be able to look thru a list of products and find this dishwasher there and click on it and from there it should give you instructions on how to get it connected to your phone thru your home WiFi and under the delay start button there is a WiFi secondary button which you can activate by holding down the button for 4 seconds and that should get it ready for WiFi pairing with your WiFi network and phone and after that in the app it should tell you what you need to do to get it setup to connect to your phone, see if that helps and if not let me know.

Install the app and then add your product than hold down the delay start *wifi button for 3sec the WiFi indicator will blink. On your phone close the app you should be on step 3 in the app. Goto WiFi and select the lg one in your WiFi but before you select you will see 4 numbers at the end of network name like “1FEB” that’s the lg network password but you must enter it twice like “1FEB1FEB” (it is cap sensitive) when connected reopen the lg app and step 3 (connect) will finish then stem 4 will start to download up to 90% then take a few seconds to finish then your done and connected.

Well that's not good, I've had mine a couple of years and it still works great, even the WiFi still works on it. If yours is less than a year old then it should be under warranty, I would suggest getting ahold of LG asap to get it fixed!

BroccoliQueefed Actually at Home Depot you can get it in different colors and depending on the color they cost different amounts, Stainless Steel for some reason is the cheapest at $698 personally I would thing the plain white or black would be cheaper, White $764, Black $764, Matte Black which is the most expensive by far at $944, and Black Stainless Steel $798! I'm not a fan of the just plain colors but I do like my Stainless Steel one and the Black Stainless Steel one looks really cool too! 😀 No matter which one you get they all come with a stainless steel tub. I love mine, I have had it for over 6 months now and it has been an excellent dishwasher, I can't believe how inexpensive it is for such a nice dishwasher it is definitely a huge bang for your buck!

BroccoliQueefed Yeah I do like the Black Stainless Steel I think it looks really cool and I probably would have got it in Black Stainless Steel if I would have bought it but Home Depot sent it out to me for free thru their seeds program and regular Stainless Steel was the only option I could choose but hey for free I'm not gonna complain! 😉 I also like their Stainless Steel I think they must put some kind of coating on it because it doesn't get dirty as easy and is easier to clean than all of my other Stainless Steel appliances! As far as the noise level on it I find it to be very quiet, my living room is next to my kitchen and when I'm in my living room watching TV, on my computer or playing my Xbox One and it is running I can rarely hear it! As far as having it I know at Home Depot it is not very expensive for the Stainless Steel model at only $698 and honestly for how nice it is I can't believe it is so cheap, the Kenmore I have before it cost me $1100 and it wasn't near as nice!

Poor customer service, I have had this for 2 years and had problems with not draining and now problem with circulation motor making a lot of noise. Worst part of owning this product is their horrible customer service who don't give a darn about you.

Yes unfortunately I have heard a lot of people have had issues with this dishwasher. I guess I lucked out and got a good one because I haven't had any issues with mine, I'm glad too because I like LG products and wouldn't want a bad one make me stop liking them, my 75" 4k smart TV is an LG and it has been a really great TV and with the LG smart app on my phone I can work my TV and since it has Wi-Fi my dishwasher too thru the app.

The interior of the dishwasher remains moist hours after the cycle is done. It stays moist so long that the interior starts to smell due to water accumulating on the bottom of the dishwasher. I don't recommend this dishwasher.

Maybe we both got lemos but from reading other forums this specific model of LG Dishwasher has many issues.
