Review:
Purchase on Amazon Prime: amzn.to/2nY0UOt (Newer Model)
I just purchased this AC unit (Summer 2011) only planning to use it when it gets above 90* outside. Ive wanted one for years, but the price on Portable AC units was through the roof. This one is fairly priced. At $249 at the time I purchased this 4/1/11, It looked like they were selling fast, I decided to pick one up before they were gone.
Nice small unit, Looks good, not too loud, Seems like its quality made by LG.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Wow, so many negative comments. I have this exact model and it has been a godsend for me. In Canada on the prairies we have hot, humid summers and this is perfect for my bedroom. I have zero complaints about this unit. It blows cold air immediately and cools off my bedroom room very quickly. I’ve owned it for five years and it does a great job. Regular cleaning of the four filters is the only maintenance you have to do, and sure, the noise is a little loud but you can also turn it down low where it’s not as noisy. For safety reasons you are not supposed to have anything within 2 feet of the unit.

I put a single hose 10,000 btu unit in a average size bedroom. Stuck the hose out the window for ventilation and boom!! It's nice and chilled!! Kinda like the hotel ac you see on the wall by the window in Las Vegas. Set it pumping on max in Southern California heat wave and its keeping a small room cold no problem!. Now if you intend to use one for a whole house or living room It will work somewhat but not as powerfull as a bedroom 200 to 400 square foot size

I have a portable AC unit for my apartment which I purchased in 1999. It's now 2014 and it's still working very well and I love it, because it actually keep my room nice and cool. Also the noise helps me sleep better for some reason. The only thing I don't like and I don't know why, perhaps it was damaged when delivered is that the water tank light never lights up which tells me to drain the unit. Therefore water usually end up leaking from the bottom of my unit and wetting the floor. Also every two or three years you have to buy a new Exhaust Hose because it does eventually starts to break and crack due to the heat.

I wouldn't think of getting less than a 12,000 BTU. Just got mine for 300 and so far working great! Just don't have huge expectations. I use mine in the bedroom and it is perfect mostly for the room it is in. It will kick out enough cool air to go out into the living room with the help of a fan in front of it.

Looking to buy an air conditioner online is an unbelievable pain in the ass. There isn't a single model i could find that isn't getting slammed with negative reviews that didn't cost over 600. I know it doesn't cost 600 for a decent portable AC. On one hand the positive reviews look fake and by the manufacturer, and the negative reviews look like they're from miserable human beings who obviously exaggerate and extend the truth. I needed real info, and finally i got it. Thank you.

For Jeffery who asked for help selecting a unit. Selection is easy. Just look for any unit that has TWO hoses. These types of units use OUTSIDE air to cool the air conditioner instead of the INSIDE air you just paid to cool. TWO hose units are also generally more efficient. Also look for a unit with a high EER [Energy Efficiency Ratio] number. Try to find a unit with at least a 10.0 or more if you can. The higher the EER number the more efficient it will be at converting electricity to cool air. Have a great day

I'm a lazy person at times, I only bought this thing so my dog could stay cool in the garage. Plugged it in by the garage door to the outside and backed it up to the corner of the door to let the heat escape and properly cool the room. I live in east Texas aka the most hunif place in the US. we have the southwestern desert to the west and the gulf coast below us. I literally took the drane plug out and the water flows out into the grass. Lazy man win.

@MrWelcomeGhosts also, you would still need to pull the vent kit in and out of each window, On a hot day/night I dont think you would want to leave the hole for the tube exposed to the outside, letting hot air in. So when you move the ac from one room to another, you would have to pull the whole thing out of the window. I guess its possible, but it sounds like more work than its worth :(

@MrWelcomeGhosts Since it does have wheels, the unit itself will roll from room to room, it rolls well on my medium pile carpet, its not too heavy to carry also. The vent it came with did not fit too well in my window, I am actually thinking about making one out of wood, and making a proper hole/connection from the wood to tube. It only comes with one window kit. You would have to buy another vent kit that would be compatable with this unit, I don't know if anyone sells it.

@tuned8e No, no hot days yet, I ran it one day for a few hours in my room with the tube off (let the hot air mix with the cool) To see if it made any weird sounds, and tested some of the timer functions. The box does talk about the Auto On function after power outages, but I have not gotten that to work, I unplugged it when It was running, and when I plugged it back in, it did not auto power back on. Really not a big deal to me, power outages and rolling blackout are less common now.

True, but the issue runs of price and size, the dual models are usually only on the larger btu size and are in most cases much pricier and the plus side to this one is that its size is relatively small and doesn't take much room.
@doubleatheman
@doubleatheman 13 жыл бұрын
@DarshBreezeh I actually took mine completely apart to get rid of my squeaking, I added duck tape in a few points at the top to prevent the styrofoam from rubbing the plastic housing. It makes no sound now.

Some AC units do stop the fan when the compressor is off, this one does not. IMHO when these small window units turn the fan off, they get a false temp reading of wherever the unit is sitting. (It may read the temp is way higher than it really is, considering is near a window) If the air keeps moving, it is able to better regulate the rooms temp.
@executivespectre

Portable AC units have the disadvantage of sucking in hot air from nearby rooms. Also the flexible outlet pipe needs to be insulated or it will radiate heat into the room making it less efficient.

if you put yours to cool, does your fan stay on even after its reached its set temp? I just got this thing and I figured it would turn the fan off after the temp dropped below where I set it. I really don't know really. I'm assuming since Most A/C units are able to cool air down about 20*f, that the outside exhaust air must be +20*f above ambient outdoor temp.

@MichaelZhangOfVOHEMO I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I have owned this AC for about 3 months and am fairly happy w/ its performance... It usually lowers the temp in my non AC'd room by about 8 degrees... Meaning if its 84 degrees in my room, it get it down to at least 76 (and sometimes lower.) I have never had to drain the water on the unit until today (which is why I actually am online reading about it.) Alan Bivins You can't; it's designed for sliding windows, preferably vertical. Although I suppose if you had a 6 or 9 pane window (or something similar) you could just remove one of the panes and attach the hose there; you might have to make your own "window kit" to make it fit snug though.
