I returned mine for full refund it draws in air from unknown sources..Here is something no one is talking about. I learned this after Hurricane Irma when keeping cool was life or death when temps hit near 100 degrees.( Never buy a single hose unit. )What do you see? A single hose hooked up to a window to vent the super heated air from the condenser coil. When this unit is pushing 1000 cfm out the window where does the 1000 cfm of make up air come from? You guessed it.. from wherever it can. Lets examine where . Have any hi hat lighting or electrical boxes to the attic through the ceiling? Yes that nasty air is coming into your house and that attic air is over 100 degrees in the summer. How about holes into walls around plumbing behind kitchen cabinets? Yes nasty air from inside your walls is creeping into the room. Do you have a floor drain that the water in the trap evaporated? Or a bathtub or sink drain? Yes now you have sewer air coming into your house. Want to know why the stand alone air conditioner doesn't cool really well in a house? Because it is drawing 1000 cfm or more of hot air from outside, or the attic or the drains or wherever it can. Lesson learned here.. Buy a window unit that recirculates the indoor air and has a seperate side outside that is cooling the condenser using outside air . A split system. .... One more word of advice for the ladies who hate dusting every other day If you have central air run a 4 inch duct to the air handler feeding it fresh outside air with a separate inline fan that cycles on and off with the air handler , the air handler will filter this air. This will keep the house with positive air pressure inside and the gaps around windows and doors and hi hat lighting will not be drawing any dust into the house.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

When the unit is running with a 20 deg temp drop across the coil (Supply air temp minus ambient temp), it is running good and efficient. This unit measured more than that. The problem isn't the unit, it's the space your trying to condition.Too much cubic ft and infiltration of outdoor BTUs. I use this same unit in a greenhouse 35' x 14' and works great. Had a LG 8000 btu unit but couldn't keep up so I took it back and exchanged it for 14000 and made a huge difference. Same unit just larger.

your house electrical circuits may not be separated on a breaker room by room. You may have that outlet connected to other outlets which have other consumers plugged in. You can find that out easily by turning off the breaker for that circuit and plug in a light into the rest of your outlets in the house to find out which ones aren't powered, then you know for sure. My house is wired this way , I know its a lot of work but that's about the only way to find out unless you have the original blueprints for the house electrical which most people don't have. Also I have seen sometimes that the breaker is weak and disconnects at a lesser load than 12 amps. Then you just have to replace the breaker which is usually easier than screwing around doing something else. I am an HVAC tech and so that's why I know. Good luck!

Thanks for that video ! I experienced the same thing with the LP1214GXR.... It does cool nothing, it's noisy and it was making my breakers to jump in less than 2-3 hours ! I was tempted by jumping back in the "portable AC" experience after seeing one actually working at a friend's apartment but your video reminded me the exact same experience I had with my last PAC...That was an unpleasant experience.... I'll just go with a window AC or a proper AC installation in my next apartment. It's not worth the trouble and taking the chance for only 1-2 months of heat a year....

Yeah, that cold air at the vent should read between 36-44 degrees F. I have a 10000 BTU GE Window ac and it reads around 39-42 degrees F. Temps will show warmer readings when on high because the air moves faster through the coils which won't cool as good like on low or medium. My readings are taken at medium speed.

There's a thing called inrush which is a surge of power needed when started up. If the inrush rating of your breaker is too low you will have this happen. This happens when any motor is started up. The newer technology on power consumption when a motor starts up has helped lower the power required by ramping it up over time instead of slamming it all at once. I am using this for the 3rd season and it's been a great unit. Unfortunately the remote never worked from day one and they made it too much trouble to try to get it replaced. I kept the unit because the store didn't have anymore and had absolutely no support so they couldn't just replace it. No regrets on keeping it but the remote would have made it nicer for this lazy old man.

@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 8 жыл бұрын
No problem. Might want to look into a split unit. Requires a 2" hole drilled in the wall to pass electric and copper pipes through. Compressor sits outside and the inside part bolts to the wall. A bit more expensive but worth it in my opinion. My 10K BTU window unit does a REALLY nice job cooling my 17'X20' garage. During peak temps, the window AC keeps the garage at about 79 degrees F with at 60% or less. Not bad for $300 bucks. I'm sure a split unit would do MUCH better but for MORE money though.

I just recently bought the Wynter ARC-143MX It’s dual hose, 14,000 BTU for 500 square feet and my garage is 380 square feet! I do keep popping the breaker, the garage door was insulated, but one of the walls and ceiling isn’t insulated so I’m not sure if that’s my problem or not, anyways, it’s very frustrating and I’m trying to find out what exactly is causing it to not cool the garage down Maybe the power and not enough insulation or this unit is garbage but I don’t wanna spend more money fixing these things to find out this won’t work! And before anyone asks, no theirs no window so I can’t use a window unit. I need this figured out ASAP! I’m in Phoenix and I work out of my garage and can’t have my door open so I’m not sure what to do

just has to be installed correctly in a properly insulated garage, has to be a dual hose design or it won't work, my garge can get down to 71 when it's 95 outside and 75 when it's 100 and up outside. my Garage is almost 1000 square feet so my 14,000 BTU unit is undersized and it cools the space just fine spend all the money on insulation then get an AC will post a video soon.

I live in lower Phoenix and it gets 120°Fahrenheit!! Its had zero problems in 2 years so far. My man, you have to use the lower temp and higher fan speed to make it work more efficiently. 1. Turn the flippin temp down to 60° so it blows out the coldest air differential between whatever temp you're experiencing outside. In my case, its 120° and mine is set at 60° literally half. 2. Go to fan setting 2 or 3 and it literally blows 60° air twice as hard if not 3 times as hard, therefore reducing the amount of time it takes to chance the rooms temperature.
@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. The temperature setting simply controls if the compressor is on or off depending ambient temp. Setting the temperature to 60 does not result in cooler air exiting the unit. The compressor will simply not turn off until the ambient temperature reaches 60.

Problem is single hose systems create a negative air pressure in the room as they draw air from the air conditioned space in to cool the condenser coil and then send it out through the hose to the outside, like a giant extractor fan, in turn that air needs to be replaced so more warm air is drawn into the room through any available entry point simply replacing the cooled air with more warm air from outside - you would possibly be better with a twin hose system that uses outside air to cool the condenser and returns it to the outside, they don’t create a negative pressure in the room and suck your conditioned air back outside again

Without having any insulation on that run of exhaust tube all you're going to do is radiate the heat back into the room through the duct to be recirculated again which is the problem here. Anybody who's doing air conditioning you want to have his short of runs as possible so that way you can have as much power to the exhaust fan as possible to quickly get the hot air out and don't give it a chance to get recirculated back into the room by radiating off of the 10 or 15 square feet of radiative surface

@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 5 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply. The compressor remains on until the temp reaches 72. Since the temp in the garage was still 84-85, the compressor never had a chance to turn off. The compressor does not run ANY cooler by changing the thermostat any lower. The thermostats job is to simply shut the compressor off once the ambient temperature reaches the set temp of 72 in this case.
@davidhouk7454
@davidhouk7454 5 жыл бұрын
The compressor kicks off and on between the ambient temp and set temp. If you lower the temp all the way down the compressor will stay on way longer and kick off far less often than at 72.

No, the problem with the unit is it’s exhausting hot air thru window. The air it’s using to cool the compressor comes from within the room and blow out the window. The air being removed from the room, has to be replenished somehow. It’s pulling in from the cracks of the doors, lights fixtures, etc. bad design. Needs an intake from out side to cool compressor AND blow that same air back out. Needs a double hose to the window.

How well is your garage insulated? from the looks of the garage door I could not tell how insulated or if it was at all. I have a 4 car garage, just shy of 1,000 square ft. with 12 foot celings that gets down to 69-75 degrees when it's up to 100 outside using an undersized 14,000 BTU unit. The trick is you need a dual hose unit and the garage needs to be properly insulated like almost R50 in the attic. at least R13++ in the walls insulated doors and a properly insulated garge door. Need to have good soffit to help cool the attic. vents also my baffles in the attic help to keep it cool. My AC must be really close to the outside don't want to have a long hose run My AC unit is placed up next to the ceiling in the corner of my garage vents out through insulated hoses through the soffit hot air is exhust and return air is sucked in to cool the coil. My garage is now comfortable, will make a video and post.

I had purchased the same model. It cooled fine for 2 months before it broke. It then took LG's contracted warranty repair company 4 months to replace every part inside the unit and then state it couldn't be repaired. LG then had their own company technician look at it and he had it for around 2 months and replaced every component a second time - literally, every component! We got it back working but it was November so we didn't need it. Fast forward to the summer heat and it ran for 2 days then blew some kind of seal and leaked all the refrigerant into our bedroom. LG refuses to repair it under warranty. STAY AWAY FROM LG PORTABLE A/C UNITS. They are absolute junk and LG's service was spotty at best.

I don't have this brand, I have Haier, but it is portable with single-hose too. Mine is 8,000 btu, which still has some decent power. First I'd have to agree with others, a garage is not going to cool down as well as deeper inside the house. To be honest these portable's I think are not going to be as great as split-system "through the wall", or the window units. Mine usually blows cool / cold air directly out, so if I am in the pathway anywhere from a few feet even up to 15 feet I can feel cooler. But the entire room all corners from ceiling to floor isn't going to be equal. They're nicer than nothing, but not going to be top notch. It seems the creator of this video had his standards set really high. For now I'm doing ok with my little portable, but I'm not in the deep south like you. You also should crunch your exhaust hose to it's minimum 1 feet or so (prop unit right at window, tied secure of course) and as others have said wrap it with some good material. It would be very interesting if you did another video, this time in a bedroom or something.

Other reviews for different Portable AC's have mentioned an improvement in overall cooling if you were to wrap the entire exhaust hose in thermal Vent Insulation. It makes sense if that hose is radiating exhaust heat at over 100 degrees it would impact the ability to cool a large room.

What if you place the unit closer to the window thus shortening the exhaust hose and reducing the heat that's generated and disbursed back into the garage?
@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 8 жыл бұрын
I could have moved the bikes to shorten the hose but I don't think that would have dropped the temp in the garage by 10 degrees. Might it help? I don't really think so honestly. I think the BIG issue with these portable air conditioners, is it sucks air from WITHIN the garage to cool off the compressor, then blows it out the exhaust pipe. The ISSUE with this is the air that is being BLOWN OUT of the garage needs to be REPLACED somehow. So air will come in from outside the garage through all sorts of gaps (garage door, house door, attic door, light fixtures, etc...). Outside is 90+ degrees, which is pulled in from the gaps around the garage door (I have seals around door but it WILL STILL GET IN). The attic is 150 degrees F, I was able to feel the air leaking INTO the garage around the attic door while the AC was on. These leaks would go away as soon as the AC was turned off. Remember, these portable AC units have to EXHAUST air out the room your trying to cool. So the air EXHAUSTED out has to be replaced from somewhere. In my case in the garage, it was replaced by HOT air from outside and SUPER HOT air from the ATTIC. I returned the LG portable AC for a smaller (10,000 BTU) window unit. NIGHT and DAY difference!!! Diffenetely cooled down the garage by 5-10 degrees in 1 hour and dropped the humidity by more than 10% in a couple hours. The window unit compressor sits OUTSIDE the cooled room and thus does not interfere with cooling the inside. MUCH MORE efficient than a portable!! I'll have to do a follow up review with the window unit soon.

+lmannyr1 Yeah I wonder why they aren't? Packaging reasons? The units don't need much redesign. One thing I noticed since this hack is that the condenser air is hotter (since the intake is hotter) and the evaporator temperature is slightly warmer too. On a 90F day (somewhat rare in England) the air coming off the evaporator is in the low 50's with this hack in place. The air coming off the condenser is up at about 122F!

lmannyr1 Perfect finding. This is analogous to the following. I have an exhaust fan in kitchen. Within 5 feet to it I have a window. When exhaust fan is operated with the windows slightly open, it pulls the fresh air from outside and replaces the cooking odor efficiently and immediately. Otherwise the fan doesn’t do its job satisfactorily.

@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried all the fan settings with the same results. The issue with these units is it pulls air from the room you are trying to cool to cool the compressor, then blows it outside. The air that gets blown outside needs to be replaced so air gets sucked in from all sorts for cracked and gaps in that room. If it's an interior room, then it will pull most of its replacement air from the games around the interior (usually) doors. Interior room temps are more reasonable, 80s-90s maybe. Now try this in the garage and your pulling replacement air from the 150 F attic! BIG difference. The portable can't keep up with pulling 150F air from the gaps around attic doors and elsewhere. Bottom line, PORTABLE AC units should be dual hosed. One hose to PULL air from OUTSIDE to cool the compressor and a second hose to blow OUT the HOT air from the compressor. Essentially how a WINDOW or CENTRAL AC works. The portable design is terribly flawed.

Why didn't you reduce the thermostat from 70 to 50 the lower the number the colder the air
@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 5 жыл бұрын
This is incorrect.T he compressor remains on until the set temp is reached 72. Since the temp in the garage was still 84-85, the compressor never had a chance to turn off. The compressor does not run ANY cooler by changing the thermostat any lower. The thermostats job is to simply shut the compressor off once the ambient temperature reaches the set temp of 72 in this case. Setting the thermostat lower doesn't make the compressor pump cooler air out. I could have set it of negative 50 degrees (for example) and it would not have gotten any cooler. The unit was not designed for this big of a space even though the packaging said it is.

Cooling a garage is not the same as cooling a "room" that they advertise on the box. Your garage probably has zero insulation and the ceiling is probably higher than 8' standard (more volume) and the door would act like a heat radiator if any sun was hitting it, even a white door can exceed 100 degrees. Put that in a room in your house and you will have much better results.

Hannibal Holt I love my a.c...it's so simple to drain all you have to do is go-to food for less or your local grocery store and buy a tiny aluminum tray .find the one you wouldn't mind seeing behind your a.c. so there is a spot where the water comes out at the bottom right in the back of the a.c. uncapp the cap and water drains slowly from there.put the aluminum tray next to it on the floor and feel out where your going to cut the hole for the water to leak into.I personally just prefer to press the tray against it after I made hole so it's on there snug .I empty it once at night or sometimes after 2 nights trust me this is way better than trying to use the hose it came with.useless .

I have the same AC and probably a bigger garage than you. The AC cooled down my place tremendously probably because i had mine closer to the window. That hose is hot as fuck man, thats why you garage didn't cool down. You're only supposed to have a 20 inch gap between the a/c unit and the window. You had yours waaaayy to far out.
@lmannyr1
@lmannyr1 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. The unit was about 24" away from window. I doubt a few inches closer would have made a drastic change. I believe the main issue with these types of portable ACs is it pulls air from within the garage to cool the compressor then blows it outside. This air must be replaced. In my case, it was being pulled from the attic access. The attic is crazy hot. So the hot from the attic negated the cool air. I replaced this unit with a window unit on lesser BTUs and it is night and day!!! Would NEVER by a portable AC for a garage again. In all fairness, we used it one night inside the house for one night. My kids said they were freezing. Room size was right at the limit.
