Why would you want his opinion instead of taking information, testing the phone out for yourself, and drawing your own conclusions? You just want to be told which product to use based on one guy's opinion?

I'm still a little bit skeptical about ultra high-res screens on phones. IMHO, I would prefer a lower resolution screen with slightly less sharp text. This is mainly because the extra graphics power necessary to drive that screen would be much higher, which would decrease battery life.

I got my G3 used back in 2016, it's been the best smartphone I've ever used. High-res screen Light Amazing camera IR blaster Removable battery SD slot Wireless charging And it was so fast and snappy. Nowadays its too old to compete against modern smartphones. But damn, I miss that phone.

I can't wait for the pointless 4k screened phones next after the pointless 2k phones ;p My phone has a 720p 4.7 inch screen and I'd be damned if I can tell the difference between my friends newer 1080p screen phones. Like linus said besides some very small text or if you like to smash your eyeball right up to the screen it's all just marketing at this point. It's also potentially a pointless marketing gimmick that could hurt overall performance by making technically superior phones chug trying to push a resolution that doesn't really improve much of anything in the first place.
@alexstoeff4982
@alexstoeff4982 10 жыл бұрын
I can tell a pretty big difference going from a GS 3 (4.8 inch 720p) to my HTC One (M7, 4.7 inch 1080p). I'm never going to anything lower than 1080p because anything less just seems pixilated and jaggy. I think 1440p is the maximum a phones screen resolution should go and it should only be on big 5.5+ inch displays. 4K would be absolutely pointless and a big CPU/GPU hog, not to mention the battery life would probably suck. 4K on high end tablets is fine, but way overkill for a small handheld device.
@Gamesrock22
@Gamesrock22 10 жыл бұрын
Dude, comparing my S3 and my brother's Note 2 to my friend's Note 3's screen is night and day. Are you blind?
@tjarsun
@tjarsun 10 жыл бұрын
I'm an iPhone user and even if apple started the "retina" marketing of high resolution screens given a certain ppi you can not tell the difference on normal use. I prefer a color accurate screen with nice contrast and brightness and not a huge screen with more pixels but crappy color and contrast. Also more pixels is more GPU power needed to run it and more battery drain, even if you put a higher capacity battery the bigger it is the more time you need for charging it.
@devilmikey00
@devilmikey00 10 жыл бұрын
Gamesrock22 You are right because the note 2 was under the "retina" zone of 300 ppi while the note 3 is over that zone where any further increase in resolution is going to be having severe diminishing returns. My frame of reference is a 4.7 inch screen at 720p which is 320 ppi. Adding more pixels to my phone isn't really going to change much of anything unless I start using my phone at less then 6 inches from my face. Obviously certain devices with larger screens need larger resolutions to achieve the same results but 2k/4k is useless unless we are talking tablets. 530ppi just isn't going to look any different then a 350 ppi phone because sadly are eyes just don't see the very tiny granulation after a certain point.
@tmlhalo6100
@tmlhalo6100 10 жыл бұрын
Agreed, anything past 720p is pointless on a phone. Rather the battery life and free processing power than a "prettier" picture for doing nothing more than reading text via email, message, or web. Also pointlessly eat at the data cap just to buffer higher res videos. The pixels are better spent on a monitor to stay at a good spatial resolution on a 20+ inch screen.

You bring up a good point. For some reason I never thought of the reason for bezel on the side of the phone is to give room internally to the button mechanics.. It makes sense, but its one of those things you never really think about.

really? marques was right. obviously if you have a ridiculously sharp display you need to care about it. and someone who buys this phone, over say the m8, will care enough to get a nice looking proper resolution wallpaper. i can't be in the minority here right? dont people like having a nice looking wallpaper on the phone you use? also i think that having the most recent app in the bottom right is a very odd preference. i mean. dont most people read upper left to right in our language?.

You can also drag an app from the app droor and bring it to app I go on the left to uninstall it. Coming from my nexus 4 to my g2 it took a little time to get used to that, but now with my g3 I got used to it quickly despite having to use a windows phone and an Alcatel one touch before I was able to get it.

LinusTechTips when you long press the app drawer icon, you usually drop it on the home screen. the "app info" and "remove" drop areas are there when you long press icons on the home screen aswell. therefore, the "remove" drop area only deletes the shortcut. think about it as right-clicking and deleting a shortcut on your desktop in a Windows OS. i hope that makes sense. PS. if you drop it on "app info" you will get a popup which lets you uninstall the app.

Hmm. I do suspect a bit of YMMV here. I was just curious how my G3 compared when he was opening the recent apps menu, and decided to compare it to the video. I've had my G3 for a few months now, haven't rooted it or modified software at all, and even with it loaded with apps, using external storage, and probably having a couple extra things running in the background, hitting the recent apps button at the same time, I experience better times than even the M8 in the video. Just my two cents here, saying I think there's definitely some YMMV here.

I really like it.....its VERY thin since the buttons are on the back. It's well packed with very nice features. The double tap to wake/sleep, large 5.5" 2K screen and IR blaster. Plus the removable battery and MicroSD expansion are always a nice welcome. I'm thinking about getting a second battery because its going to be my gaming phone. Its very good for gaming. ESPECIALLY once overclocked.....It's my favorite Android device so far....my ONLY gripe is the speaker....its not very loud at all...and putting it on the back wasn't a good idea

Currently i am watching this with a LG G3. Personally i like the keyboard, i am able to type really fast with it being vertical in my hands. I like that LG added a few videos to show off the screen. While playing games like nova 3 it performs really well, except when having a bunch of apps opened in the backround. The over heating is noticeable but I think of it as a pocket warmer after extended use. Overall, this phone is a must have for gamers, having a big screen for easier touch controls, also a must have for people who watch a lot of videos, with the big screen and pixel density, lastly something i would recommend if you take a lot of photos.

Wait, you can use cellular data on the phone on Bell Mobility's network but you can call & SMS, strange. Maybe the G3 doesn't support the right frequencies or it could just be Bell's weird network of CDMA, HSPA+, & LTE. Stupid question but you did have cellular/mobile data enabled? Anyway, I like the G3, I like the infrared laser autofocus, the great faux metal finish but would have liked it better it they used that self healing coating from the G Flex to protect it. I like that the phone have some gesture controls on the camera, eg, if you close you hand into a fist, it will automatically take your selfie. And I love that they put a microSDXC slot to soak up all your music, movies, photos and everything else that doesn't need the fast internal flash. However, I could leave the QHD screen because do we really need a 2560x1440 smartphone screen? At smarphone screen sizes, the different would be imperceptible to that of a 1080p screen while tapping a lot more power from the battery. IMHO, 2K screens are really better suited to larger screen devices like tablets & laptops then smartphones.

Want to buy g3 this month. Is this good for selfies? Does it take good selfies than other phones with 5mp front?

I want a phone with a massive screen, and high power internals that will last a long time. Is the LG G Flex a good option? I don't really care for the curved screen, but the specs and size of it are perfect.

This is the first time I watch one of your vids and I I gotta say, I really like how you review things. Kinda like a more spunky, faster MKBHD. Enjoyed it, subscribed, and I hope to win one of these. I love the customization.

Delete an app by draging it to "app info" instead of "remove". There you have the uninstall option. Why the option is not in the remove drawer, I don't know...

25 Phones! That is sweet! I like the 2560x1440 display on this phone but I love how Linus puts it into perspective analyzing more than just its high dpi!

The screen, simplicity of the os and design, and of course the back facing buttons which thin out the bezels!
