I think it is mistake to have these videos with comparisons, when the viewers of videos have their own tv with its effective filter. Anyway, this mocking of the reference monitor is also a mocking of the film industry which is using the reference monitor for creating content. IMO the very first criteria should be match to the reference monitor which is used for creating content. The secondary criteria can include unique characteristics and should be documented but comparing or judging unique criteria should be about defining the unique criteria, and each tv should be judged for their ability to match every unique criteria.
@ehenningsen4 ай бұрын
I think comparisons are good, though. Because each of these TVs are elite at something, and how are you to know what is best if you can not see the differences side-by-side? This is how I went from not considering the S95D to buying the set. The G4 and S95D stand out at the edges

I do enjoy QD OLED. Everyone knows it can show colors that Woled panels can’t. BUT that’s not the end all be all. TV’s like the g4 have insane white brightness, to my eyes this is very impactful in scenes. It’s also a huge positive for sports watching especially with hockey. I’ve compared the g4 and a95l in 65” side by side in my house. The g4 for me blew the a95 away. Sure the colors in some scenes were better on the a95 but the g4 consistently was brighter and more impactful in highlights. It really comes down to use case. The g4 was perfect for my living room with its increased brightness. Maybe if I was in a black room or using FMM all the time then it would be a bigger different. But I don’t live in the “most accurate mode”

@@ehenningsenI think distance plays a huge role. I’m a big believer that the size should be determined by how far away you are. I had a 65” in my last house and was very happy with it but my new living room had a much farther distance from the couch and it was driving me crazy how small the image seemed. lol.
@mrb07754 ай бұрын
@@fab9223 Absolutely! For a great experience watching movies with a 65" size TV (especially with very wide aspect ratio movies that make the image SMALLER due to black bars above & below it) to be able to enjoy the sort of immersive experience with a production that its director & cinematographer intended you to have, one really shouldn't sit at a distance from a 65" inch screen that's substantially farther than 7 feet, particularly since the tiny pixels of modern 4k TVs make the pixel structure of 65" screens invisible to the eye at 7 feet. In my own living room situation, for watching a visual wide aspect ratio masterpiece like the beautifully filmed "Apocalypse Now", when seeing a film like that on our 85" Samsung QN90B, I view the movie from a chair that's been moved up to place my eyes just 8 to 8.5 feet from the screen. BUT, if I didn't have very good peripheral vision, then I'd have to sit farther than that distance to be able to see the entire movie image without having to move my head or eyes back & forth. BTW, for watching regular TV shows, my wife & I STILL find it to be highly satisfying to be sitting on the couch, at the back of the room, although that places our eyes at 15 & a half to 16 feet away from the 85" screen. But that relatively far distance for viewing TV shows is STILL very good for 2 reasons: 1. TV show directors shoot their programs so as to have the characters in a show mostly being seen in close-up, because the directors & photographers who shoot the programs know that more than half of the people watching at home, view their shows on TVs with 55", or smaller, screens. So even at a 16 ft. distance, an 85" TV seems quite generous in size for seeing TV shows. Point #2 is that TV shows are NOT shot in a wide aspect ratio, so there are NO black bars causing a picture image to take up LESS screen area than the TV has!

Yeah I have a Bravia 9 65 inch and I have a LG G3 55 inch. The Bravia 9 is not beating high end OLEDs overall. It does a couple of things better, IN CERTAIN PRESETS, such as brightness (especially peak brightness is incredible). But while shadow detail is good on Bravia 9 it certainly still struggles in dark scenes. It's much better in a standard picture preset of some sort. Game mode? It has some serious difficulties with either (A) Blooming in Local Dimming Medium or (B) a bit of black crush and overall lower peak brightness (noticeably so). There are also other issues like ghosting in VRR and BFI modes, but in most cinema style picture presets Bravia 9 is doing really well, punching way above what you'd expect from a Mini LED with it's dimming zone count. All that said, no, I use my LG G3 for gaming mostly (and some dark movies) just because the contrast is amazing and the pixel response (and thus motion clarity) is unbeatable by Mini LED TVs (unless some super fast processor comes into play in future). OLEDs are still king in the gaming sphere. They are struggling now against this one Mini LED in the cinema viewing. But that's about it. The thing that I'm looking forward to is what Sony may be able to achieve with it's next iteration (or perhaps 2 generations from now) in Mini LED tech. This newer, more minute control over local dimming, mixed with their existing processing means (to me) that if they just had like 4000+ dimming zones... it could be a monster. Especially if they can get their hands on faster chips so that all the processing can happen faster and boost pixel response times. Because as it stands, still the two biggest issues Mini LED TVs face (including Sony's) are motion clarity (which Sony is undoubtedly doing the best here, but it still ain't close to OLED) and still having to trade off between blooming and black levels to some extent in gaming modes. LG G4 (which I don't have sadly) killed it by having a way more powerful processor than needed, but it allowed them to basically excel in EVERY mode and on every port, regardless of your input latency target. If we could get that... but on Mini LEDs? That'd be something amazing to see. I also very much agree about WOLED vs. QD-OLED. I do genuinely like some of the color richness you can get with QD-OLED (had an S95B before). But it's hard to ignore the pinkish tint from the over-saturated reds. To my eyes, the slight cyan but more pure white colors on WOLEDs look better to me. I also prefer the more natural feeling skin tones you tend to get. And sometimes the almost overly rich colors don't produce as realistic feeling of an image. And these vibrant colors don't necessarily make the TV "pop" more to me... it's the contrast of dark to light that does that. So I don't personally care as much what the richness of the colors are so long as they CAN be rich when they need to be. I care much more about the overall contrast, that to me makes objects look more 3-dimensional when they should be.

For those who need “perfection” - go for it! But the LG C4 at $2500 less than the “perfect” Sony A95L - will suffice given my needs. That moment showed the OCD of those who only cared about the intent, but was funny 😂. I respect Brian for attempting to demonstrate this to his audience. While there are a small percentage of people who care about the creator's feefees, the rest of us care about our eyes. As long as the panel doesn't widely vary from the expected values, they are legit good to push the tech envelope to provide the best possible experience. This shootout is for fun and not meant to crown the best overall TV. Because art is in the eye of the beholder, all three of these elite sets have their own edge case. all that processing thing is sick, I wish to have tv which simply display pixels delivered from my graphic card or blue ray. Messing with picture by tv is nothing better, but worse. Lets think about audio, u have Mcintosh preamp conecting it to amp(exemple of TV) which starting to mess up all the pure sound from preamp adding its own processing , color tone or bas... Its not better in any way.

Brain, what do you think about the previous samsung s95c compares to the tcl qm8 because they are around the same price range
@DHJD-c8k4 ай бұрын
For me, I think the Bravia 9 might be the best TV for my use case although my wife wants the a95l because it won. She thinks that miniLEDS are bad next to OLEDS since they didn't score well in the shootout. I'd like to get your opinion on my use case to see if I am missing something or misunderstanding something about mini LEDS 1) Main viewing would be movies/shows. gaming and live sports is secondary I'd say about 70-75% : 25-30% ratio. My gaming is done on an Xbox series X. 2) The room is a very bright room (sunroom), with the sunset coming through the windows aimed at the TV. 3) Size- I'd be looking for a TV in the 80+" range. My wife said "go big or go home". That pretty much leaves The Bravia 9 or LG G4 in these sizes. 4) Viewing angles- I don't feel is a concern as it is only my wife and I. Being that it is a large TV on the wall that is about 9ft away from our couch, the love seat on the side still lies within 30 degrees viewing angle for any guest sitting there. 5) Cost- I'm from Canada and the 83" LG G4 at Best Buy is $8000 while the 85" Bravia 9 is $6500. That is $1500 plus tax difference totalling $1695. So it wo uld cost me almost $1700 less for a slightly larger flagship TV.

I'm not an expert, but I'd also go with the Bravia 9 in your scenario. In fact, I'm not certain anything could compare. Save the very large UX or QM8, we're talking the over 110" $10,000+ panels
@DHJD-c8k4 ай бұрын

@billzbillz8117 you are going to be super happy with the G4. I chose the S95D because it has the widest color gamut and the most luminous colors of all the TVs out there. Plus it has Game Motion Plus and all the gaming features we could ask for in 2024, including an updated tonemapping which was surprisingly better than the S90C. At this level, the S90D, S95D and G4 are all great TVs and are going to be very good to us.

Since i wanted a bright and big 83" OLED, there is only 1 choice, LG. I also found the colors on the samsung (uncalibrated and in filmmaker mode) too agressive, dont know if i change my mind calibrated vs calibrated, but there is no way for me to find that out. Sony got trouble with dolby vision and i never liked the motion from samsung, so would have bought the lg anyway. But i have to say, the samsung new antireflection f4om s95d looks damn good with lights on. Would pick that every time above anything else even with contrast lost. But i hate the samsung os and love the lg os, its so simple, clean and gives quick acces to profiles and is way faster than samsung and the sony os is the worst. such a hassle to go through menues and settings. But the lg remote is so clunky... So, there is no perfect tv. If, i would like the sony remote (backlit) with lg layout (quick acces), sonys motion, lgs processing for everything else, qd oled panel without overblown colors and samsung new antireflection tech in one tv set. That would be the perfect tv for me, never going to happen 🤣

All those TV's at the shootout are good if you can afford them? No one should feel regret about their purchase if your TV did not win the shootout. Hate to beat a dead horse but what you choose should come down to your own personal use case, what you want out of a picture and what negatives each type of TV has (QD-OLED, OLED vs LCD) can you live with because they all have their drawbacks. Personally for me since 90% of the content I watch is KZbin TV or some other streaming application picture processing is #1 important for me. The other factor most important to me is APL. I watch a lot of sports and like a bright image that pops and I don't want the picture to dim down because the TV can't maintain its APL brightness. I also want to get the biggest size screen I can that realistically fits in my room. I don't game. My living room is moderately lite but I can control the light to a degree by closing blinds if I need to. Right now my use case leads me to a SONY LCD TV because SONY processes the content I watch the most the best IMO and I like the consistent bright picture I get out of the LCD TV without it dimming down. The drawbacks I have to accept by going LCD is poor off angle viewing but I watch straight on or slightly off angle so not a deal breaker for me and LCD not having perfect OLED blacks because I do own a large movie collection and that bugs me that I am not getting perfect blacks but still that is a smaller portion of all the content I watch. It is important for me that my LCD get as close to those perfect OLED blacks as possible. Bottom line as I said at the beginning it all comes down to what is most important to you and what you are looking for in a TV, not what someone else says you should get. I think most of us viewing this channel are TV enthusiasts but most people I know and have talked to when they are in the market for a new TV are not buying any of the TV's in the shootout because they can't afford them. I have a hard time getting people to shell out $1,500 to $2,500 for a quality mid-tier TV let alone what these flagship TV's cost. Being honest most tell me there budget is a $1,000 for a new TV.

The G4, A95l and S95D are all incredible examples of current TV technology.I don"t have a problem with the Sony A95l winning the shoot. However I don"t think that the A95l was morally eligible to enter the 2023 shootout.To postpone the shootout to accommodate what was essentially a 2024 model TV was a blatant case of Sony bias.Unless you are the world"s most stringent pixel peeper the 77 inch S90D for several hundred dollars less than the 65 inch A95l would be suicidal to pass up.

You guys did put Bravia 9 on a pedestal and made it appear the best TV in the world that will challenge OLED! Especially stop the fomo😅 As it turned out, the Bravia 9 was nowhere near to challenge the OLEDs , it barely won against LCD Samsung Q95D which many people didn’t even review it, Let alone discuss it. It’s interesting that both QD-OLED TVs won in the streaming section of the shootout, which many people use to watch in their TV. G4 just didn’t failed to win on colour volume, it also failed to win in other aspects including streaming.

I just bought a 77" G4 from LG's Partner Store and it costed about half of what it would cost for a 77" A95L which rarely gets a discount off MSRP. Even the S95D currently doesn't have great discounts and would have been significantly more expensive than the G4. The VE shootout doesn't take into account price/performance or value despite the name Value Electronics. The A95L may be the best TV, but is it twice as good as the G4? Definitely not - in the shootout the G4 was only 0.5 points (out of 10) away from the A95L.

A95L won again But A95L is still the most expensive so some people will make decisions on price vs scores. For example dividing euro’s over scores. So if the tv is 3000 euro’s with an 8 score its 3000/8= 375 euro per point If another tv scores 7.8 but is 2500 euro.. Then its 2500/7.8= 320 euro per score. Thats also interesting to weigh in..

I wanted an LG G5 55" with an all new Blue Phosphor pixels it isn't happening and it sucks. So I'll wait until the year LG puts it in. I want LG to fix the minor hardware issue for all categories it lost in the shoot out in. The G Series doesn't have to ever win it nor will W-OLED ever be the perfect pixel Oled but LG engineers need to address what the voters have seen to vote it for last place. QD-Oled panels after all these years have proven that it's far better than W-Oled.

Samsung is not sold by a vendor here in my region anymore. He will stop selling them from his store. Reason: to much issues and bad at resolving issues. Thus a person can choose qd oled from samsung pure for colors on other things they just lack. And those things are not tested in shootouts. In the end its all subjective choices and weighing per person.. Bad experience with a brand can also withdraw people from buying the same brand again..
