When running youtube HDR content, my G4 looks awesome. I know it depends on what settings are preferred per each picture mode using advanced settings personally, but the shadow details do appear to be better. Especially with nature scenes. I haven't tried throwing a disc into my UB820 just yet, im still rearranging my surround speakers, but I plan on it soon. My son said he noticed a huge difference with the P5 on the G4 compared to his A80J. I said, "Obviously. 😂 keep it coming, KG, thanks.

Bought the S95D for my light flooded living room and another S95D for my outside kitchen/bar/ chill area and is really nice. Especially by the jacuzzi it's so awesome, never seen such a great picture during indirect sunlight in our lounge area. I bought the LG G4 and a S94D (same as S90D kind of) in 65" for my gaming basement and both have incredible colors and black. Currently to lazy to bring G4, S94D and S95D in the living room together but all three have incredible colors and black, I'd honestly say that we are at a point normal users shouldn't care because all three are good. If you use the TV outside or in light flooded rooms I'd strongly recommend the awesome S95D. Btw: all 65" S90Ds use QDOLED (ATXZG code in the name). All smaller and bigger screens use the WOLED panels. So basically there is no panel lottery if you buy the S90Ds with ATXZG in it. But funny enough only the 65" has the QDLED (ATXZG) in it. Will probably wait for next years Samsung Gen to see upgrades on the matte screen but it's awesome and thinking about buying another 3 S95Ds for my houses in italy that I own in toscany (vacation homes) so guests can enjoy outdoor tv in italy. It is that awesome. But for now I only got the S95D twice(Living room and Outside Spa), the LG G4 and the S94D for my gaming room in the basement Might consider grabbing another S95D for my bathroom. Edit: One negative small issue on the S95D though: If the screen is black and you have something very bright, for example the Samsung Logo or a full moon with black background you will see a white cone around the edges of the images that makes the area a bit greyish. That is duo to the matte screen. If light hits the screen it doesn't get swollowed - that would be a black hole. Matte screens aren't black holes, they spread the light and make it "foggy" but visually more appealing (imo) than a direct "mirror" of light. Vise versa happens though if not light is hitting the screen, but the screen itself is creating a really bright image (Samsung letters, Full moon,...) and have black around it. But if I wouldn't have told you guys most wouldn't know. It's something you should consider though. In th end though these are all three middle priced TVs, if you want a real nice theater experience we have better options than these three, but obviously more expensive. For private use they are incredibley good. With that being said: in my cinema room in my second basement I am using a 8K beamer and have no windows in that room. You can never expect something like that from midprice TVs in the 3000-7000 € range. My beamer cost me about 24.000 € but it was worth every €. And even that is a low budget beamer simpley because I am not into movies that much and might use that cinema twice a year. My friend bought a beamer for about 75.000 € (customized) and while my beamer is awesome you have to see that. That is such a crazy good looking image... but here the same: if you don't compare - which in most cases you don't cause you only have one tv - everything is perfect. I understand his investment though, if you have a basement with three indoor pools and jacuzzis with bar etc. and you want a beamer in a 75% humid room yeah... sure. But who am I to judge. Looks awesome, but can't invest that much in a beamer yet alone buy three pools lol. Just before I get PM's: JVC DLA-NZ9 - 8K HDR Laser Beamer is the beamer I am currently using in my movie room - which the kids are using more than I am. The company that sells this Beamer created a custome beamer for my friend in his private spa with light show and indirect lighting configs. Thats why he paid 75.000 € lol... insane. With that being said you all got the info you need. G4, S95D and S90D and Sonys A95 are probably all going to do the job and are all almost equal in price. Can't do anything wrong with either one, but if you are using your TV in outdoor like I am I'd strongley recommend getting the S95D even with the cons. IMO the Matte Screen looks even cooler though, but who am I... if you use it at night in a dark room get the G4 or S90D or the A95... all good. Don't think anyone will notice black differences at this day and age. If you want the perfect picture all 4 are bad because we have beamers for cinema rooms. On average I'd say most people can't afford all 4 TVs and most people have a light flooded living room and most people only buy a new tv every 5-10 years. I'd go with a S95D then.

@@TechWithKG One more question. This being one of the only hdr comparisons of these 2 tvs on youtube, I also watched this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYrVhZdnh75gjbssi=L4ycUuKOOa4DtdvL&t=345 . I ended your video with the conclusion that the g4 was brighter and better tone mapped (which is likely true). However, the other hdr comparison displayed the opposite. Could this just be differences in settings used to test the tv? And if so, do you know of modes on the 95d to make the highlights look like that without making the image too distorted? Im thinking of getting a s95d soon because i like the coating but your video makes the g4s highlights look so much better.
@ipodguy123g
@ipodguy123g 25 күн бұрын
after further consideration, i've come to the conclusion that the s95d often looks more natural and the post ai processing that the g4 has is very hit or miss and sometimes overexposes highlights and scenes. Though often the processing can make the g4 look punchy-er, the effect is inconsistent and can make some scenes look worse even introducing banding at times. This plus my favor for the samsungs matte screen, which i think influences a sense of physicality in the image in person, made me end up purchasing the s95d over the g4. Maybe if they get the whole ai post processing fleshed out, samsung should add it to the s95e but as of now I dont see it as of much of a drawback.

Yup just filmmaker mode out of the box but I used content that will let it show its strengths in those mode, FMM and movie mode get bad reputations but they actually are very capable modes closest thing to reference without getting real calibration done. For those that prefer a cooler more saturated look the standard modes on these TVs are solid for that.

S95D better with orange and yellow colors, otherwise G4 significantly brighter esp. blue and white as one would expect. I have S95D and the picture quality is stunning with good source materials. Given the price difference ($2250/€2100 for 55” and give away HW-S700D soundbar vs. LG $2570/€2400) at the time of purchase zero regrets for the decision. LG beats Samsung in motion. There motion is really good this year and it's been good for several years. The g4 has a brand new processor exclusive to it. If you're a movie watcher, it's cinematic motion setting adds extra interpolation on the scenes where it is needed, the cuts it back when the action slows down. This is the "best" way to do it and they are the only ones doing this right now. LG generally has less artifacts too.

@@TechWithKG I'm sort of leaning towards the S95D since I want to pair it with the Samsung 990 sound bar. If I go with the G4 TV I heard there are some compatibility issues when connecting to the Samsung soundbar sometimes. Also I'm looking to get 2 TV's, one in the living room which I mentioned earlier and one for the office room which is going to be on the 2nd floor on the loft style half floor. The wall on the loft floor where the 2nd TV is going to be placed has a smaller wall surface area so I'm thinking I can go with a 65 in for the living room and a 55 in for the office. And that 65 in + 55 in samsung is going to cost almost the same as only one 65 in LG G4. Money is not an issue but just thinking of the costs logically, plus I don't actively watch TV at all atm so these TVs are mostly for guests and casual use on my end, mostly on my PC gaming and trading.

I don't think the lack of colored brightness is due to tone mapping but to how W-OLED works as this kind of panel has a white sub pixel that has to blend with the other weakened sub pixels whereas a QD-OLED does not rely on a white sub pixel to have enough brightness as all three sub pixels are already bright enough on their own.
@TechWithKG
@TechWithKG Ай бұрын
Well when I use professional mode toggle vs just having it set to default I get a ton of color back so it’s not as simple as it being a W-OLED. There’s still cases where it will be the QD OLED difference but yeah LG has very aggressive tone mapping which causes it to lose color even when it’s not the most demanding content.
@SP95
@SP95 Ай бұрын
Which is why I would say the color difference is mostly due to the content itself rather than tone mapping this time around. You may get some colors back when using an other mode but the brightness might also become darker as well, of course let's remove the raised blacks out of the equation. I am referring to the color volume aspect which measures color accuracy in regard to various levels of luminance/brightness rather than doing it on a single level like we traditionally do. In short, that measures how bright a single color could go. The white sub-pixel has some strengths and weaknesses compared to a classic RGB sub pixels solution like QD-OLED panels, the most obvious one is when the subject on the screen is bright but not very much colored as that white sub pixel doesn't need to blend much with the other ones and could then go full blown, which is why a W-OLED panel could go brighter in those specific subjects like you show here with white clouds, sand or a white rock on a bright sunlight, the sun itself etc... Whereas when you have some bright colored subjects that white sub pixel then has to dim in order to not loose too much accuracy when combined to those other dimmer RGB sub pixels which is why in that specific case a quantum dot doped sub pixel like those on Samsung's displays will then be able to display a brighter colored subject on our screen which is what I could see on your examples thankfully well recorded in HDR. I'm watching your video on an 13" AMOLED (RGB) display that could go up to 500 nits in a 100% window so I can tell when the Samsung has reached its limits like there at 13:26, the LG can't get that yellow tone right since it has to blend the weak red and the weak green sub pixels together but can afford to be much brighter thanks to the addition of the white sub pixel since the sun itself is essentially a giant bright white dot even in this orange scene.

Biggest difference is the color-fringing of the triangular subpixel layout on the QD-OLED that you will notice if you sit somewhat close to your TV for gaming. Third generation QD-OLED and the color fringing has turned out to be an absolute non-issue. QD-OLED's color volume and gamut is superior, those who prefer to get hung up on non-issues and go with the inferior WOLED panel instead - go ahead. I will never understand.

You left off Dolby vision. You might not think it's that important, but you didn't even mention that Samsung doesn't support it at all. Other reviewers have been impressed with LG's filmmaker version of it. I think you underestimate people who buy either of these sets. While they aren't likely to get them professionally calibrated, they will try different modes to see which they like best. LG even has an option to show you different images, and based on your choices, it will set the tv up to your liking across different content. In gaming mode again, no Dolby Vision option for Samsung might make a difference in some games. You did mention the warranty difference but you didn't mention why that is a big deal. Namely image retention/burn in. Depending on the content you mainly watch, the risk will vary, but regardless, LG is a lot more confident in its panels. That should give anyone considering these two tvs a big reason to choose the LG.
@TechWithKG
@TechWithKG Ай бұрын
I think people are aware that Samsung doesn’t have Dolby Vision at this point, it’s really not something I believe people should factor in over other important picture quality aspects or meaningful features because the visual difference and end result in regards to HDR impact is negligible in most content examples. I test it every year. As for DV gaming that’s botched on LG and no games even really have true support for it, dv gaming is definitely not worth talking about.

Bro the lg can get close to the qd oleds color. The main problem is the color space and the fact that lg oleds run at a very cold temperature. Here is how you fix it. First take your remote and point the cursor to any picture mode setting, now type in the secret code 1113111. Change color space on sdr to bt2020. Make sure you are on native color space. Now also go ahead and enable the reduce blue light filter. You need to be on expert dark space. Turn off peak brightness. Then go in to the white balance, set it to warm 50. Set the color upgrade to high. Also go down to the blue and green and set them to minus 50. Then go to contrast enhancer and set it to high. Turn off auto genre selection if its on. Then finally go to gamma and set it to bt1886 or 2.4. Finally increase the sharpness and turn on ai picture pro. These are the worlds best settings for any lg oled tv. Try it and prepare to be shocked. There will be a huge difference in color, clarity and 3d pop. I tried it on my c1. Please try these settings bro. You will be shocked at how good the color can get. I know it may be oversaturated for you. But it will give you an idea or what the tv is capable of. If you drop the color to around 45. These settings won't be oversaturated though. So try them and let me know.

The characteristic spectral emission of the various technologies, i.e. OLED, QD-OLED and company, pose a problem for the image sensors and white balance systems of almost all cameras and camcorders, especially due to the poor slope of the color filters above the photodiodes of the sensors. The result is the underestimation of the blue and green components. All things being equal, in a comparison like this, if Quantum Dot and OLED WRGB are framed together, the former will have a dominant pink-magenta color and the latter will turn slightly green. And that's not all. The dynamic range of commercial cameras and camcorders falls well short of what is needed to capture the differences between various displays. Quantum TV talks a lot of bullshit. He has no idea how to calibrate a TV, he doesn't have the equipment or the skills to do it. It simply distances itself from the reference with which directors create content. If the director wanted a pink flower, it's not that if you show it Ferrari red then it's better, it's just wrong. The most flashy doesn't count, they are not photos for Instagram.
