I am always open to suggestions how to better simulate use in these tests. The goal is see how this phone would hold up over time not saying these tests would be one days worth of use or this is how YOU would treat your phone. When I purchase a phone things that I am concerned about is how easily the phone will scratch in my pocket or backpack not just the glass, the bezel and other surfaces (jet black iPhone scratches like crazy) I am interested to see how sturdy the phone is to flexes in the frame and bending. How does the phone react to drops? Even if the phone has a certain type of Gorilla Glass the way the phone is manufactured, whats behind the screen causing pressure, what adhesive is used, is it curved that decreases the stability of the glass all play a factor in how "shatter resistant" it is. If you have feasible ides for tests you would like to see I would like to hear them. Yes these are not lab tests but the lab is also not real life.....

tile is ceramic, hardness is high. Also sand is mostly quarts also very hard. That's why those two scratch glass so easily.
@phosphor1127 жыл бұрын
Sammie Malesci Yup. Ceramic has a hardness of 7 Mohs. GG3 can go up to 6 mohs. The scratches from the tile could have compromised the integrity of the front.

the front face glass cracked bc no bounce. the phone is flush all around, so no bounce=no fun. bounce alleviates some of the energy. all you need is a thin case with lips around the front edge and you're pretty much solid.

Don't be discouraged by the fan-boying here. G6 doesn't appear to have fared too well with your tests, but it's impossible to know without subjecting other devices to the same tests. Only suggestion is just to make sure that the tests are replicated earnestly on each device, and if you make changes to the formula it might be worth going back and reevaluation recently tested devices. Only thing I would mention is lighting and detailed views. Watching this on a slightly dimmed laptop display, all of your shots look like just a slab of phone with not much detail. Maybe a lighting/background issue? For what it's worth, your tests seem much more realistic than some of the other channels out there. The pocket test seems so flukey that it may not be worth doing, but the tumble and drop tests are great.

The front of the phone can break as a fluke , saw a reviewer also saying that the phone droped from a small height and broke . I had my Q6 drop from hand height to concrete floor with a glass screen protector and it did not break the phone . I have changed my screen protector 3x now and it was worth getting one
@any40037 жыл бұрын
yeah, I still don't understand how the dropping from a seated position amazes people; I've been screwed numerous times with my phones from sitting position, dropped and just shattered but when I was standing up and dropped it from even higher height it survived. I find this to be troubling with cell phone producers; how they can just have a phone survive decent Heights when it comes to such a short impact it's life devastating to the phone. This should have been a huge complaint throughout the entire existence of smartphones.

I have a Gear4 D30 Picadilly case for my Ice Platinum G6, which doesn't cover the front, so I got the Invisible Shield 3X glass for the front. if the phone can withstand most of what you did with nothing covering it at all, A good case and screen protector should be fine. the D30 case is thick on the back and has rubber along the edges, especially the corners. Incipio makes A good case, (be sure to get the one rated for 12') as well as Otterbox Defender rates well. Get a tough screen protector accompanied by Otterbox with the additional cover on it and you should be golden..Good luck!

My brand new G6 had a cracked camera lens right out of the box! The box was sealed and in good shape I couldn't believe it. Still waiting on my G6 case--Amazon is taking forever to even ship it. So my damn cat runs through the room, knocks off my headphones, which were attached to my phone, and my phone flew onto my ceramic tile floor from sitting height. There wasn't a mark anywhere. Maybe I was just lucky with the angle. Anyhow, I might bite the bullet and get a case from a brick and mortar store, even though they're way overpriced and hardly any to choose from.

LG G6 is using four year old gorilla glass 3, it's cheaper and not as strong. I was looking forward to this phone, but disappointed they sacrificed quality for extra profit.
@brianmsahin7 жыл бұрын
It's tempered glass yes, but we are on Gorilla Glass 5 now. They're using cheap older tech which shouldn't be used on a 2017 flagship phone. Of course if you don't drop it, it won't be a problem. I don't want to be too critical, I think it's a lovely phone, it beats every other phone out there, makes the Pixel and iPhone look ugly, and the only phone that's better is the new Galaxy S8. I wish they'd have taken the extra step and used GG5. But.......the next one, the LG V30 with the new 835 processor should be a beauty. If I was an an LG buyer, I would definitely be waiting for the V30.

How would you try to simulate real world conditions?
@Jojobizzare807 жыл бұрын
Actually using it and doing weekly or monthly updates over the year on how it is holding up. Every drop is different so relying on them is not a good way to determine a phone drop rating. The tumble test could have scored the glass causing it to fracture at that point.
@How2Tech7 жыл бұрын
This would be a great and is ideal but not for viewership on a channel. To test many phones you would have to carry and use 5+ phones a a day. You are correct a tumble test may have created a flaw in the glass but is more realistic than dropping it new out of the box. It is unlikely you would drop the phone when it is new more likely to drop it after you have had it for months with scratches, scuffs, flexed display and possibly a flawed display. I would rather see how this phone reacts to being dropped simulated over time rather than new out of the box.
