Matthew Jardine Watching this on the LG G7 ThinQ!!! This phone is amazing!!! Definitely worth it over the Galaxy S9!!! I had see man reviews and I was skeptical because most reviewers gave it an "ok", but I'm glad I bought it through T-Mobile's BOGO deal! The raspberry rose color looks amazing! Everything about this phone is a step up from the G6. Even battery life! Which is why I wish they would've left the battery at 3,300mAh. But I'm sure it was a design compromise to make the INCOMPARABLE SOUND of the BOOMBOX speaker come to life!!! For once I feel like a have a PREMIUM quality phone since the G4!!! Great job LG!!! Unfortunately LG is as always: they release good smartphones but not the best ones so these smartphones become part of the huge amount of smartphones out there
@allenqueen6 жыл бұрын
David you can't really point out a '' best'' in today's smartphone market. Every phone satisfies different things. You want fast updates-pixel. You want the ecosystem - iphone. You want price/performance - oneplus. You want bloat-Samsung(ok, I'm sorry, i couldn't help myself. But yea, Samsung is good if you need high budget android with a headphone jack). You can basically never go wrong with any of these phones. Whether it translates to sales, is the company's worry. No. Of products sold never say anything about the quality.

Kakashi Hatake I understand your point, but I'm talking about the LG smartphones, lately these ones do not stand out and become just another model of the huge amount available, of course in the smartphone market there's a kind of specialization as you said, some smartphones offer design, other battery life and so on and others just become cheaper and cheaper due to a little of people want to buy them like this one (of course if we consider other smartphones)

How do i say this. LG is just not a cool brand. Samsung would have been equally uncool as LG, i mean their name Samsung sounds horrible but they have a massive marketing campaign ever since the Galaxy S2. So through spending a shit ton of money they managed to be perceived as somewhat cool.

Agree with BTICronox here. In my opinion LG is the best of the standard phones. It is not shit, but at the same time it is not oversaturated with features (although the notch and the AI camera is the exception, however they can be hidden). Also, LG over Samsung's bixby.

The phone isn't any less stronger than a phone that's completely aluminum. Glass is way more rigid than you would assume. Maybe not "shatter proof" but the glass is also as much of a structural benefit (if not MORE) than just aluminum (which is a soft metal and does bend and dents easily).

Yeah...a really good job... I got to totally agree about glass backed phones it makes no sense at all. I thought Nokia did it best back in the day with the polycarbonate that didn't show scratches because the color was all the way through the material... And I'm waiting on that Nokia 7 plus review.. I've gone down and played with it a couple of times at the store and I would say the only thing that kind of bugs me is the external speaker.

i also saw a lot of complaints about nokia software... video and audio getting out of sync and another thing that bothers me is that the n7 plus has a huge battery but doesn't perform as well as expected. the xa2 ultra lasts longer with a smaller screen and they both have an soc from the same gen and the same screen size
@spriteqcx06 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't see how glass backs are a big deal at all. Plastic phones feel cheap and I honestly can't stand having a $800 plastic device. Doesn't feel premium at all. As you can see in my other comments on this video, I've had a G6 that was beaten up to hell. Constantly dropped it on concrete and hardwood floors while holding it, constantly slipped out of my pockets while sitting down and slammed almost everyday into the ceramic floor of my kitchen when i sat down to eat. That never cracked it. What cracked it (and we're talking about a very minor crack that can only be seen in bright light at a certain angle) was when i fell from my board while speeding down the street and the phone went flying out of my pockets, slammed on the street full of pebbles and knocked into the sidewalk across the street. That was a pretty brutal fall and it barely had any noticeable damage. I just put a skin on it and it was like brand new. Now i have the G7 and with all the "ThinQ" and LG branding on the back, i feel like it's almost mandatory to skin this phone. The skin protects the glass back and absorbs the shocks so it's even safer. This really is not a big deal in any circumstances in my opinion. If you're going to crack the back of this phone, you're going to crack the screen of a plastic/aluminium phone anyway.
@why_tho_6 жыл бұрын
In case if anyone's asking, the speaker is louder when placed in the table, because LG has made the space between the frame of the motherboard, and the glass back a 'resonance' chamber which echoes the sound of the speaker to vibrate the back glass and hence vibrate any solid surface you lay it on, hence enhancing the loudness of its audio.

I really used to like LG, and this is actually a solid offering, but on amazon the S9 goes for 560€. That is an amazing phone at an amazing price. Consider that people would like 9/10 times great auto photos rather than perfect manual mode photos for example. I mean the S9 is the best all arounder and scores amazingly in the most important aspects that a smartphone has. I think that people nowadays buy Oneplus or Huawei as a (unjustifiable) sign of rebellion against Samsung, because the reality is that they cost more,the same or just a little less but definitely are not on as good as the S9

Honestly I don't like where LG is going with G7. They hired new president, changed policy of mobile department, open software development center, denied G7 first version and after all they came with faceless notchy Iphone/Samsung mixed clone, really!? I don't see any positive moves since V30 release. Lg has lack of self-certainty. In future V40 I would like to see - Higher quality 6-6.2" oled display, straight 2:1 aspect ratio without any f'n notch, with better white color reproduction, shadow details and viewing angles. - Instead of stupid Boombox speaker they can use two frontfacing stereo speakers with not as loud but directional sound, Dolby Atmos support wil be welcomed, and in place of acoustic chamber put thicker battery at least 3500 mah. - Replace all 3 cameras with bigger size or lower resolution ones, 1.4-1.5 micron pixel size. - Cleaner UI, with quicker response, more stock Android look-alike with less cartoonish icons and 3rd party trashy programs (at least make deletable). - Faster software updates, for 2 years guaranteed period .
@helloworld62286 жыл бұрын
Nowadays phones are going for bezel less display so having 2 front speakers ain't cutting it no more. To be honest the boombox speakers does sound better than Samsung Dolby atom. I can bet if samsung had the boombox sound and lg had the Dolby atom that you would say lg should go with boombox. Lg cannot please ppl no matter how good they make there phones. Lg was the first smartphone with a notch and everyone just ignores that. Yep ppl just hate the lg for no definite reason.
@Cerberus70706 жыл бұрын
hello world I use Galaxy S8+ and screen to body ratio is about 82% and it's more than enough , if I hold it without case accidental touches will be guaranteed. It is so purblind that companies keep shrinking bezels and sacrificing usage comfort. What about Boombox, I think its absolutely useless. In 95 % cases we using phone in our hand, and like it mentioned in other review without resonating surface G7 sounds like V30, so you can't enjoy sound of videos. Surely you can't (and shouldn't) use boombox feature in the public places cause it's still not powerfull enough, remains only home or office there instead of laying on surface I can use sound system or headphones. Again, Boombox feature is absolutely useless.

About consumer pleasing, for global products like this they should hire european/american top managers and designers cause apparently koreans have no idea what to do. The chinese market lost even for Samsung, Lg has no any chance to squeeze there. They should consider only western market tastes.

After having a very bad experience with my G4 only a year and a half in I changed my stance on LG phone drastically. The phone didn't receive updates including security patches,and it seemed like my phone was hacked for some reason, my app lock got a lot of random triggers for my banking app(which was in a folder so it wasn't an accidental click) and when I saw this I also locked WhatApp and observed the phenomena for a little bit after determining it was highly suspicious and the apps that got triggerd were ones with value in them I factory reset the phone and started looking into options for rooting it. After doing research for about a week I determined that it can not be done since the boot loader unlock tool didn't work for my variant of the phone and community made tools were also unavailable because there was an official tool that covered 90+% of the phones on the market... I tried mailing or calling LG and all I got was either a no or automatic messages. (and yes the problem did return after a day on me using the phone for 2-3 days a lot of seemingly random triggers to "apps of value" in this case only WhatsApp since I didn't install anything important) I bought a new phone and haven't looked back since...

I have to agree with you regarding the glass build on this device. This is something I did not like about the LG v30 which I found to be very fragile considering it was marketed as being a durable phone. I've always found it strange that companies build beautiful devices with amazing color and finishes yet they're so fragile you have to cover them up with an ugly case right away to be able to use them in the real world. Other than that I really like the LG G7 because it's a niche device that's not so common and I for one do you use the wide-angle lens and love listening to music with headphones on it

Very good review. As an LG user (Currently G5) I find myself drawn to their phones even when I believe their are better products (Pixel) available. This phone seems a good attempt, but I believe LG would be better served adding OLED and dropping the V series. It would consolidate their rather small cell phone sales under a single product. And I think premium phone sales are about to flat-line since flagships have become so high end.

I think in 2018, you can't really go wrong with a phone. You can buy basically any phone, and be happy with it as long as it works. I suggest a mid range flagship spec-d phone, like the OP6 or this one, when the price comes down. Good times to be a smartphone buyer. Bad times for tech enthusiasts though, with the lack of innovation in the industry, but then again, smartphones have pretty mucj reached their limit in bringing new stuff on the table without lookong gimmicky.

LG was really sneaky regarding the DAC and wireless charging on the G6 and those only featured in Korea and not the European or USA markets however the marketing suggested otherwise along with the review units for tubers. The LG skin for 7.0 was poor and laggy and stuttered badly in most social apps. My G6 just received 8.0 not 8.1 and now over a year from purchase is finally smoother with less lag. That really doesn't fill me with confidence.

Great review - thanks. I once had a G4 and the camera was really great (especially before a software update removed the ability to launch directly into manual mode...). It seems that LG kind of went backwards a bit in terms of camera sensor size after that....prioritising other elements of the camera experience and the phone dimensions. The G5 definitely had a smaller sensor, and a friend of mine went from G4 to G6 and assured me his G4 took much better photos! Not sure why all manufacturers seem to be obsessed with making phones as thin as possible.... Bring back chunky phones and max out the sensor sizes (I'm thinking Lumia 1020 and Nokia 808...)!!

I'm thinking about buying it...How does the battery hold up? I tend to be on my phone quite a lot so I hope the battery would last till the end of the day.. Your experiences?
@r8bior6 жыл бұрын
I went from a meizu pro 6 to the LG V30+, and the quad DAC on the LG isn't worth sheet... The meizu has far superior sound quality and amplification. The screen on my V30+ was very teal. I had to completely remove all the blue and green, then move the warmth slider to the right, which actually makes it cooler. I can't go any further on the blue and green sliders, and there is still a touch too much in the colour. I'm surprised that the calibration was so far off.

Your G6 still doesn't have Oreo? Check LG Bridge, OTA didn't show up for me either. Do you have unlocked European H870 or some branded version, though?

I actually got it just as I uploaded the video 😀

From what I can say, phone got faster (though maybe it's only because of factory reset I did, can't remember how fast it was when I bought it in October), camera is slightly improved with more modes (I'll still use Google HDR camera, though) and battery lasts like 3/4 of what it used to on Nougat. Which is quite interesting since Oreo was supposed to improve battery life. It's stand-by drain that's the issue. Hope an update that adresses it comes soon...

LG wide angle 135°-125°-107°.... Next it will be lower again LG?
@marashah.ibrahim6 жыл бұрын
Frost Q I think LG is going towards a OP6 approach and then a telephoto in the end 😂
@laurents19066 жыл бұрын
Ibrahim Mohsin you got it LOL, its just dumb i mean V30 is prefect now they decrease it again?...
@SDav216 жыл бұрын
Frost Q Agree. The V30 is perfect because it is wide and has minimal distortion. I think they had to decrease the angle now again to increase the megapixels. With 135° it was 8mp. With 125° it was 13mp. With 107° it is 16mp.
@laurents19066 жыл бұрын
SDav21 i dont think that they decrease the view angle to increase the megapixel i mean when v20 to g6 135° to 125° is to decrease the distortion, and they put 1/3" sensor instead of 1/2.6" to make room so that main camera and wide angle have same sensor. But i don't think that megapixel affect how wide the camera can be be i mean go pro have bigger megapixel and superwide angle cam. So here is my thought, LG default camera set up is 4:3(after G4) and when you capture superwide image on 4:3 you will get distortion so you have to use 16:9 which mean use lower pixel(ex v20 super wide 8mp is 4:3 and the 6mp is 16:9) so LG try to fix the distortion in 4:3 image. Because g6 and v30 have same megapixel count but v30 is less distort IMO

Nice review, I would consider it if it had a bit bigger battery capacity, the small battery capacity will cause trouble after a year when the capacity starts to fade

Im watching this on my g7. I traded my dad for his g7 that he bought today! I gave him my s8 for this thing! I kinda miss the edges on the s8 and also the amoled screen but it's whatever

Got it second hand, 2 months old for only 270€ :) Funny thing is I ordered V30+ too.. brand new for only 309€ so I might return it. I had the V30 before but sold it and tried the Essential Phone but gonna sell it now lol. I changed mobile like every 6 months. My first LG phone was G2 > G4 > G5 > V10 > G6 >V20 then V30 2018 and after that Essential phone but I wanted to try G7 aswell and now I have it. I'm like 99% am gonna keep it rather than the V30s. Sadly we wont get G8 or V40 amd V50 here in scandinavia.. But if someone sell the G8 cheap i'll buy it haha. Life is good!

Hello! I have V30+, and think about G7 (6gb Ram, 128gb). Tell me about battery, is it bad if compared with V30?
@FranciscoGuevarra5 жыл бұрын
@@topperharley6363 its about the same. Well depends how you use it. Im not a heavy user, social media most and youtube, photo editing etc. Not into gaming🙌🏻

@@FranciscoGuevarra i'm not heavy user too. My V30+ live about 3 days and 4-6 display hours, and i like this results. In your opinion, it make sense to change V30 on G7?

Thanks for the video i will think hard to get the g7 or maybe i will wait for the V35....

Why the LG G7 is showing scratches on the screen or back? It's supposed to have Gorilla Glass on both sides (scratch resistant). Is there a flaw on the material?
@AntonioCunningham6 жыл бұрын
I skipped the LG G6 soly because they sealed the battery within the phone. That's why I bought the LG G5 over the other flagship devices. I still don't want to support LG going this route, but sadly too many OEM keep making phone with sealed batteries.

I was so hyped to get the G3 even though it had been out for a year and ended up selling it and losing money on it 6 months later because I couldn't take it. I'm not opposed to going back to LG, but I am hesitant.
@spriteqcx06 жыл бұрын
i mean i completely get how you feel. I had the same issue on the Nexus 4. But i still got the Nexus 5, the 5X and the 6P. Companies are aware of how serious those issues are and I can confirm to you that the G6 and G7 have none of those issues. I had the G6 for a year and a half and never had a single issue. The G7 is pretty flawless so far too.
@knicks20306 жыл бұрын
SpriteQc That is a fair point and if the price really does drop that fast you can count me in as interested lol. I don't like it when people buy a product from a company, it doesn't work, and then they say I am NEVER going to buy from them again. Which is exactly your point. I was just so disappointed with the G3.

I have nothing against notches, but I really like the look here with the notch blacked out. Looks like the clock etc is outside the actual display. IF it had been a proper AMOLED that is :P

I am hoping this phone is a fantastic deal. I just traded in my old Nexus 5X, which I loved but haven't used for a while because I was scared off by the bootloop, and got the G7 for less than $250 from Google Fi (including service credit). One serious disappointment: I've had Android Pie on the 5X for months but the G7 only has Oreo and who knows when it will actually get Pie.

So do you use the G7 or the Nokia seven plus as your daily driver?
@vinnybruce28746 жыл бұрын
It seems like the G6 back was very tougher than the G7 because I got little spiderweb lines in the back on the G7 so I have to replace the back and it's not as sturdier as the back on the G6 so glass on the back not a good idea
