Perfect video, great information clearly presented. And I can plie on to the other comments: 1. AGREED: Get The Pliers!, why struggle and damage your new gasket? 2. AGREED: Clean the hose! - mine was plugged worse than shown in your video. 3. Also, look for the other videos on cleaning the water filter. I had never cleaned mine, it's easy, and mine was FULL of linty goop. 4. If you have a small hole in your boot and you need a fix for a couple of days while your new boot ships, I actually had success with a bike tube patch. Dry the area, clean as well as possible and follow the bike tube repair kit instructions. The real kind with the glue. This worked for me for a week of wash, but the hole was only about 1/4". 5. Last but not least - if you are feeling lucky...I decided to try replacing the boot without taking the front off the washer. I used a slat of scrap trim about 3/8' thick and 2" wide, maybe 14" long to gently wedge the drum over to one side or the other to install the boot and inner spring. This was not that hard, the drum is suspended and it has a lot of flex in there. You really need to be sure to get the inner spring in the groove properly, feel around the whole diameter and press it into the grove. Don't try it without the pliers. I would not try this unless I had lots of experience as a technician on other stuff. But it went very well, did not require more tools, and made the job very quick. My washer is pretty much built into the area, so I was really motivated to avoid pulling it out. If you have space, just pull it out and do it like the video shows. The instructions are great. THANKS!

In terms of clarity of explanation this is one of the best U-Tube HOW TO Video's I have ever seen! Thanks. Yes, our gasket drain hose was plugged up. I managed to clean get to it and clean it by just removing the front gasket spring and lifting gasket up at the drain hose to removed the hose. Getting the hose clamps off, hose loose at both ends, and putting them back was the hardest part. Thanks for posting this video!

Probably the best video I have found for this door seal. Straight to the relevant points, clear description, great video well edited, no dogs, no kids, no annoying wacky background music …(already have all that….😎) Last but not least the great tip about cleaning the tubes and making sure the bottom drain tube is not blocked…this is clearly the main cause of the stinky moldy sludge which collects at the bottom and rots because it does not drain. If these are cleaned regularly I doubt that the door seal will ever have to be replaced again.!!PERFECT!

You’re a life saver! I pulled mine apart and soaked my rubber seal (it had a bad case of black mold). Putting it all back together was the tricky part though and people had their doubts I could do it. It was only thanks to your little extra tips that I managed to do it. Eg. the way you showed how to put the springs back on by closing the spring circle first and fitting as much of the spring as you can in the groove, then using which ever loops necessary and pushing the spring circle into the groove as you stretch it with the special (and cheap) tool. I’m so happy to be rid of that mold and to have done it myself. Thanks so very much! Ps. Congrats to my fellow independent women who got this done.

We were having leaks under front of washer. Watched your video and found out about the drain hole in the bottom of the seal/gasket and the tube that connects it to the drain system. Our gasket drain hole was plugged with lint. I used a turkey baster to squirt water into it. At first it wouldn't go. I couldn't force any water through the drain hole, then all of a sudden it was open. I squeezed a cup of hot water through the hole and ran a couple test loads .... NO MORE LEAKS! I never would have figured this out without your video. MANY THANKS. Another helpful idea .... put the washer "feet" up on short pieces of 2x4 so you can see under it and see where leaks are coming from.

Have a newer model LG (WM4000HWA). Tried to wash a feather bed. Now have first hand knowledge why you don't ignore a washer's max capacity. Destroyed both featherbed and door boot gasket. Too embarrassed to call repairman so we found your video. I can count the number of DIY projects we've done on two hands over our 25 year marriage. Your video was awesome. We bought the tool (hubby ran out of underwear waiting for it - he looks good commando, so no harm there). Our gasket was also more specialized than yours so I'm glad we purchased the specific part for our model number. Nothing generic would have worked. For anyone who has our model number, there is an additional drainage pipe that attaches in multiple places on the boot (looks a little like a goal post surrounding the gasket). We also have weights attached to the front of the washer drum that tightly frame the gasket. If you have our model number, you can follow this video all the way to where you begin putting the new one on. At that point, put the gasket on first and tighten with spring. Then remove the weights from the drum (you can put them in the drum to keep it weighted). Then attach the drainage pipe (be sure to align the tubes at the bottom) before reattaching the weights. Don't try to do this with the weights on the drum - your knuckles will hate you and you'll just have to do it anyway.

Great video. Mission accomplished in under 3hrs. Very helpful to have an extra person for the inner spring clamp to help align everything while other person just holds clamp to remove tension. My in-laws think I'm and amazing repairman now. 😅 One important note when putting the seal back on: Do not try to put it on the metal drum that spins. It goes in the plastic(?) protruded ring that does not spin.

Overall great video! I purchased the spring removal tool for the inner (more difficult) door boot seal. At 8:30, the lower loop was not completely closed, even though I used needle nosed pliers to try to close the gap, so the pin of the tool kept popping past, making the spring removal tool ineffective. I ended up opening the inner spring by unhooking it, so it was no longer a continuous circle and then used zip ties and a helper to reconnect the inner spring into a continuous circle. I then figured I might as well use zip ties on the outer spring so I could truthfully tell the seller I did not use the newly purchased spring tool and get a refund. I'll admit that the spring tool would have worked perfectly on my outer spring.

I had the same experience with the lower loop on the retainer wire bending. The spring stretching tool bent the wire to the point that the tool tip slipped through the loop. I used a vise to bend the wire into a tight loop. I also used a grinder to make the tongs on the tool smaller. Doing that made it easier to put the tong in the loop that holds the spring. Other than that, things went smoothly. Thanks for a great video!

Many thanks! I reached to this guide due to very nasty stains on the children clothing. Apparently my seal was very dirty, so I ended up cleaning it without taking it off, but you tip about the clogged drain pipe was spot on! That was 99% clogged and more than likely the probable root cause. Gave it nice cleaning with pipe cleaner, does the job pretty well. Excellent guide.

Thanks for sharing sir!! This was very helpful. Just a heads up for folks with Kenmore elite- there are 30 odd bolts even in the front underneath which you gotta remove by leaning the washer to the back so that you could access the nuts, and there aren’t 2 springs to support the boot- the outer small one and there is a round steel band that goes around with a screw on it which you gotta unscrew so that it loosens and u can take it out with the boot!! Takes time but worth the try 😊

Great video, I have had an LG since 2006 with zero issues and although mine is slightly different I will look for this drain and blow some compressed air through this tube. I think you could have successfully cleaned the old gasket but no issue with replacing it. It is amazing though how long these washers and dryers still last today. Very little planned obsolescence as with allot of the things we purchase. Makes sense that the is there and I'm glad you brought it to our attention.

Super helpful. I have an LG tromm and this worked. Unfortunately the rear spring was tough for me to put back on. I had the tool but the right connection point kept slipping and out of the eyelet due to how it is constructed. I ended up flipping the spring around and then getting and extra had to hold it open while I bullrushed the thing on. Worked but my finger nails are torn up. Again this is more an issue of my spring construction. One of the best videos for this repair. Thanks for the share.

Our door seal has recently had water pooling in the gap, but I wasn't aware that there was a drain in that location. I wouldn't be surprised if it is clogged like this, so this is definitely helpful just to narrow down the source of my issue. I bought my washer used several years ago, and had to replace the drain pump already. I thought it also had a bad intake valve, but it turned out that one of the wires just wasn't clipped in place all the way. Otherwise, it has been pretty reliable and fairly easy to repair.

Awesome video, thanks! My model was a little different with 4 hoses coming out of the boot seal (top, left, right and bottom) and a plastic cuff that goes through the boot to seat the hose at the top. But this video was all I needed to get complete the replacement. One tip that might help people: my spring pliers did not fit in the ends of the spring. I tried using them in the ends of the wire but they pushed their way through the bend in the wire. I eventually got it to work by putting a zip tie through the end of the spring and using the pliers in the zip tie to stretch the spring. I also had difficulty removing the plastic door alarm clip so waited until I had the door off to pull it out. Thanks!!

Ok, I just did this. Amazon dropped the pliers and gasket at 8:30 and 10:00 I'm running a test load - all good. I could have been done in an hour, but I spent a lot of time cleaning mold out of the machine, especially around the soap tray. Get the pliers - they are around $13 now (Dec '22). Buy the ones advertised with the 5-inch spread - I saw some comments on Amazon that the smaller ones didn't open wide enough. The original LG pliers are also available for $50 - $75. Buy the cheap ones. Soap for mounting the inner seal worked great. I spent more time reassembling the cabinet than working on the gasket. I didn't use soap on the outer seal for assembly. For the pliers on the inner seal, get a substantial zip tie and zip the handles together. One person suggested doing the same with vise grips. I tried both... Use the zip ties. In the future, I'll probably pull the outer band off and clean out the little hose/drain at the bottom. I had dog hair and lint blocking the tube and I'm sure I will again. Lastly, to Smart Easy DIY - thank you for not only helping myself and others with this task, but for putting together what is probably one of the best filmed, narrated and produced DIY video on KZbin. This should be a how-to for others making videos.

I looked down the drain hole with a small flashlight. There appeared to be an obstruction. I poked around with an unfurled paper clip and then I took a needle nose pliers to grab the obstruction. It turns out that the obstruction was Phillips head that might attach to a drill. Now, the water drains per my test. I learned about the drain hole and tubing by watching this video. Thanks.

Thanks for the nice video. To clean out that elbow underneath the seal (without having to remove the seal) I use a thin, long zip-ty as a snake. It fits into the drain hole in the seal and is flexible enough to work its way through the 90 degree elbow without causing damage to any part. I usually rotate the snake a few times to make sure all the gunk and pet hair are getting mashed up and moved into the larger section of pipe.

Great video - did it myself. YES get the pliers - I could get the springs off with plyers but there's no way I could have gotten them back on without the spring removal tool. Helped for me to put the outside spring back on by routing the top first and using the tool to loop it around the bottom.

Great video, but this took me about 5 hours. Getting the rear spring on took possibly half that time and I was on the point of giving up - and turning the air blue - when I decided to try again the next day. I’m pleased I did this, but I think next time I will get an appliance professional in to do it.

Great video and thank you. Huge caution, don’t buy the offbrand boot, get the OEM LG one. Thought I would save a couple dollars but failed when the boot didn’t seat well no matter what I tried. Got the LG one and it fit perfect. Small difference even in how it shipped. The offbrand was folded up in a small box (could have contributed to problem) whereas the LG came packed flat in a larger box with cardboard helping keep its form.

I looked at SO many videos trying to get this done. I very much appreciate yours. It is just easy to understand and follow. My issue is that my hoses are so different and life took me away from this project 2 weeks after dismantling it. I have the drain hose on the bottom, one hose on each side (3 & 9 o'clock) and one at the top. I can't figure out which to cap and which to connect. Do you know where to find such information? Thank you for the wonderful tutorial!
@SmartEasyDIYer

Thank you! I’m not quite sure which one you have, but I’m wondering if you could perhaps tell by the diameter of the hoses where they go?

Just did this repair and it was a bear getting the inner gasket retainer installed. The tool would not fit into the lower spring loop. So I used a couple of zip ties to make a place to hook the tool. Of course the zip ties stretched a bit under tension. It is a bit tricky to hold the tool with one hand and seat the retainer around the gasket with the other hand while the Mrs holds the flashlight.... Otherwise it's a straight forward repair.

Sorry you had the trouble with that Spring. So yours didn’t fit in that loop like mine did? Sounds like you improvised and got the job done though. Good job!

1 important step (maybe): the two weights can be removed with a 10mm socket so that it’s easier to take off and put on the seal in the back. You did it without removing the weights, but I’m sure it was a little harder to fiddle with the seal.
