Mini LED. Not rich enough to justify the cost of an OLED screen that starts to age a mere 3-5 years from the time you buy it

I’ve seen the miniLED next to the OLED at Best Buy. Only in the most extreme conditions of black to white edge contrast can you notice the OLED perform better. But you need to have them side by side. If you have the miniLED in your home you would think it’s OLED. It’s that good. Brighter and no burn in. When they make a 55 inch model I’ll be getting the miniLED

Just the opposite ime. Once you get the MiniLED in your home with many hours of use and various different types of content, then you will start to notice the blooming issues surfacing here and there. Trust me, the FALD algorithm in these sets gets confused often.

@@glennvandaele7998 I mean all LCD tvs have burn in to some extent. But you would reallyyy have to purposely leave and imagine on a screen for weeks/months at a time to even get a little burn in. If you left an image on a OLED screen for one week that would burn it in. Also LCD and OLED are very different technologies as each OLED pixel is a chemical reaction light source. Every time it’s on its life is being diminished. That technically is what the burn in is. The light source dying. As the pixels diminish from use and can’t produce as much light, those pixels seem dimmer and leave behind whatever pattern/shape that was there. Under normal circumstances you would never leave a static image on a screen for a week, but if you watch the news/sports/games where you have something like a network symbol or scoreboard constantly in the same place. You will see burn in after 1-2 years of normal use.
@micego46

@@brucecarter6205 I’m sure in some cases you are correct. The demos they show are programmed well to make the backlight array as perfect as can be. I have a Sony x90j series. It looks good, and for the same money compared to just a few years ago it’s damn near perfect without being an OLED. I agree that for the best picture OLED is king, but that comes with a price. I think for the price differential the miniLED is the best when looking at price. Can’t wait to see what tv tech will be in another few years across all the price ranges.

I've had that z9 for six months now. My eyes are customed to it by now.. I've got to say, that movie experience during lockout was close to IMAX-level with 4K streaming. You can sit within 2 metres from the screen and it is perfect. Seeing backlight LCD outside premium premium range now seems odd. They've always been pretty good, but now they seems pale and grayish. Samsung Q9 8K that has been my main refference (I got my z9 at the same price than 85" model) would be great except on one big factor that troubles all backlight tv's: Subtitles. I am customed to use subtitles on all my material, since for me english is a second language. Subtitles ruins dark scenes with back glare. On less-expensive models it might fill the whole middle section on the screen, eben on more expensive models it glares out a lot. Changing subtitle color to yellow and using black bar behind them helps a bit, but does not take the problem away complitely. This is not an issue with Oled. MiniLED from LG is something I've never seen in dark room. My main take is that if your main use of tv is in an environment that is always bright, LCD is propably better. If you want to experience picture as it was ment to be in a place that can be dimmed, OLED is a better option.

My working class family only had a 16” or smaller black and white CRT TV when I was a kid in the early 80s. Finally got a 26” color set when I was 6 or 7, but that was state of the art in my world. It really puts into perspective and helps me appreciate the tech we have today - My LG C1 65” would be unimaginable, alien tech when I was a kid. Reminds me of the great Plasma vs LED debate. Plasma was expensive and heavy, but had much better blacks and generally better contrast. LED was less expensive and much lighter, but had grayer blacks, worse contrast, and some models had weird streaking issues that didn't seem to be present on the equivalent plasma models. LED ultimately won out as the tech got better/cheaper, but I loved the picture on my plasma set for movies.

I never noticed ghosting with my old samsung lcd but what i immediately did notice after buying an Lg oled was that the super fast response made the stutter with low framerates (like 30fps) so much more obvious and worse! (especially outside game mode you get a dia show! ^^) And sadly even with next gen consoles we still get 30fps games! Latest game Dying light 2 if you want to play it above 1080p or raytracing it's with 30fps! :(

Think it very much depends on the room, my CX 55 OLED looks amazing, but the glossy screen would be so annoying in a very bright room with the reflections. It does get plenty bright, think 750nits but obviously nowhere near something like 1600nits you can get with some MiniLED tvs so for much brighter rooms MiniLED would be better, for out and out picture quality in a darker room, OLED just wins.

@@vacationboyvideos That's because the room is so bright. You don't go to the theater and expect any external light. If you are putting a TV in a room that will mainly have bright light when watching, you'll want to go LED instead of OLED (but chances are you don't really care about OLED or higher quality viewing experience to begin with if the TV is going to be used in this type of environment). If you watch movies at night or in a dark room like most people, you'll appreciate the HDR, depth, and contrast OLED has to offer over LED.. and it's a major difference. I purchased a top model QLED from Samsung and returned it after 2 weeks.. then went with LG GX OLED and it is literally a 10x better movie watching experience for only like $500 more in cost.

@@RDMGAMER Not exactly first gen, no but I suppose not the newest one either. From what I've seen those newer ones are still developing issues over time still but maybe instead of burn-in you'll get streaks/vertical banding first from the pixel refresher and then later burn-in. It's organic material it's always breaking down no matter what's done. LCDs loose in the performance department, it's hard to compete with a pixel that is actually off but they make up in longevity. Viewing angles sucks though but it is what it is and I know my viewing habits which is often times alone, usually playing a game with a HUD element which is a burn-in magnet even after all the algorithms.

Looks like they want to compete with Samsung's QLED lineup. OLED has fantastic colors, but unless you're in a near pitch-black room like a specific made home theater, you really don't see the true black benefit. What you will notice is the terrible brightness handicap, however. For most use cases / general living room setups, high end mini LED is the way to go. Have a QN90A, fantastic bold colors, crazy bright, and barely notice blooming unless in a specific scene and you're looking for it.

Burn-in is a real thing particularly if you've got someone at home who like to watch content with static stamps in the corners ( like my gf watch KZbin videos not Fullscreen with the red symbol at the top left).
