For some reason I woke up at about 12:30 AM Friday night and I went out to the kitchen and that’s when I noticed the error code “Er IF” (error code Ice Fan). I was so frustrated because it was the sabbath and I didn’t feel like taking out the top freezer drawers so I could access the back panel of the freezer where the ice fan is located and where I need access in order blow hot air to defrost the ice fan. So I thought to myself “how can I fix this easily”. I opened the refrigerator doors and looked at those ducts in the door jam that feed the ice maker and I thought “those ducts in the door jam lead directly to the ice fan.” So this gave me the idea to use a blow dryer to force warm air into the ducts to melt away the ice that had built up around the Ice fan and guess what? IT WORKED!! Problem solved and in 1/2 hour the error code was gone. I also noticed that the vents at the back refrigerator panel on the very top shelf had been blocked by a plastic bread bag and for some reason this is what typically causes the ice to build up on the ice fan. So keeping those vents in the back of the frig on the top shelf unobstructed is critical to keeping the ice fan from freezing over.
