Watched this right after we bought ours from Sterling Appliance for $1,799 (a great price). A few comments after just 2 days of ownership (some related to the video) 1) For ice / crushed ice / water - you don't really have to "swipe" your finger, which we found tricky. If you simply place your finger or thumb over the center water button (maybe to cover up a light sensor?) it will toggle between ice, water and crushed ice; swiping seemed very tricky and inconsistent 2) we had to move the fridge to the far left of its cabinet nook location to allow the right door to open all the way; we have a curved wall with corner pantry that forced this - so make SURE you have clearance for the very large doors to open 3) we had a side by side, so it takes getting used to this fridge and opening either the left or right door as needed - but you have to remember what's where in the fridge; also, if you open both doors for 30 seconds to load groceries, the loud open door alarm goes off, so we'll have to figure out if that's configurable 4) on the doors - they are BIG and hold a lot, BUT you have to make sure to forcibly close them; they don't close as automatically as my old side by side Maytag. So that's first impressions. This video was helpful and I hope my comments will be as well. Maybe revisit the comment after a year. Our last Maytag wide-by-side lasted 20+ years so I hope we get at least 15 out of this one!

You don't have to swipe to change it from ice to water: just touch the water once and it will cycle through the settings. For the taller bottle storage jus move the to shelf on one side down to the next setting.

Our fridge is against a wall on one side. Looking at this brand, what kind of clearance is needed to open the drawers and the door? If I open the door to 90 degrees would I still be able to access the drawers okay? (Knowing that, like now, if I want to remove the drawers I need to pull the fridge out completely.)

Got this basic model for $400 off MSRP and took the five year parts/labor warranty for good measure. Our last ice box lasted 18 years. Hope this one does as well.

Great review! However, I've been searching the web for hours and can't find a video showing how the door hinge works from above. You said above that one would need 4.5 - 5" of space, but my situation may differ slightly. We have a "cabinet" for the fridge, and we want our fridge to be flush - I.e., the front of the doors are flush with the cabinet. There is a Whirlpool in the space, and it works fine (we're buying the house). May I send you a picture of what I'm talking about? I don't want to buy this, and it will not work. I do have one suggestion about future videos. Look at the lense and not the screen. Great job!

Thanks for the video. How much clearance do you need on each side in order to open the doors fully so you can take out the crisper drawers? I'm considering buying the same unit but will have a wall on the right side, and it looks like you need to open the doors greater than 90 degrees to take out the crisper drawers
@pennymodern4 ай бұрын
You would need about 4.5-5" on either side to open the doors enough to get the drawers inside open.
@manuelesoto23Ай бұрын
They have a zero clearance version coming out soon.

Can you tell me how you got the ice maker to work in the freezer? I can’t find and on or off button?

I have noticed in the stores that there does not seem to be a drip "pan" under the water dispenser. Do you find this to be a mess or am I missing something. My 20 year old GE has a removable tray that catches the stray pieces of ice and water. I have also seen the lack of a drip pan on other makes as well in the stores. Thanks.
@pennymodernАй бұрын
This one has no drip tray so if you are a bit messy (or have a little kid like I do) you do get drips down the side of the fridge. A drip tray would be nice for sure! Thank you for the comment!

My LG professional series refrigerator is less than a year and a half old, the linear compressor has failed. I have been contacting the warranty center for 3 weeks and no resolution as of yet (12-02-24) they claim there's not a single repair company that can service or repair my fridge.... So Do Not Buy an LG like I did, you will be disappointed.

I have a LG not like this one but a French Door one. The icemake stops working if the refrigerator is open too much. My freezer just started defrosting on Sunday and now the refrigerator is not cooling at all. The earliest the repairman can get here is on Thursday. I ve had to throw away a lot of food. For the price I paid for my refrigerator, you would think LG would at least have someone arrive within a day or 2 vs 4 days. 😢. My refrigerator is not even 4 years old yet. Smh.

That stinks. Mine has been ok so far, although I have only had it a few months. I will do a new video once it's a year old to report how it holds up over time.

my refrigerator is 3 years old. started leaking. Needed a part, I'm forgetting the name. Leaked all over the floor. I waited 1-2 weeks for the part to come in (I've spent $300 so far) . Tech in stalled and found the part damaged. Water leaked from water dispenser to ice tray. waiting for new part to come...it's been 2 months from the start...still waiting. I just bought an LG dryer, it takes 2 hours to dry towels...stay away!!

Please show how to open the upper ice maker and remove the container in there. I have a 3 year old version of this fridge and the upper ice maker gets clogged if it's not used frequently so I have to open it and remove the ice container and dump the remaining ice. Thanks for your great review!

Yes the ice can get clogged. All it takes is open the door and tap on the blockage, it will dislodge the blockage.

How can you say they hardly had any complaints or bad reviews… they have horrible reviews and even 2 class actions related to defective compressors…
@Xelphor113 күн бұрын
These reviews should rip open the unit(s) and show the guts/ heart of what really makes the refrigerator unit - the compressor(s). On our second Bosch failure now in 9 years. All these manufacturers make everything look nice and shiny and feature rich, but stick garbage chinese parts in the heart and core of the unit(s) rendering them low-life spans and useless after just a few years.

I will never buy an LG appliance again. We have or had four and they were all poorly designed and had repair problems within 6 months.
@pennymodern4 ай бұрын
Well, we'll see how this one does. It's frustrating because so many brands of fridges have terrible reviews. It seems hard to find a brand that actually is reliable. Do you have any recommendations?

Never buy an LG refrigerator they do not stand behind their warranties. Look at their BBB complaints.
@pennymodern4 ай бұрын
Wow that is good to know! I did get the extended warranty plus I also have a home warranty, but will keep that in mind. I found that a LOT of name brand companies are having issues with refrigerators - LG, Samsung, and even Whirlpool. It makes it hard to buy a fridge!
@dalbriggss2 ай бұрын
LG & Samsung are the ones with most issues. LG currently has a class action law suit for their linear compressors. LG has reviews on their website, and they don’t look good. Not sure about this model. But please do your research. Home depot & Lowe’s are not showing the issues that are happening with LG compressors.

I have been doing an absurd amount of research and I have reached the conclusion that I'll buy whichever I want if new, or pry get a ge or Frigidaire if used. We will pry end up getting an lg from costco. No in door features or any other features that aren't necessary. Literally every companies fridges are garbage now with planned obsolescence unless u go into the sub zero wolf etc which cost as much as I wanna pay for all my appliances.

I would not recommend a lg refrigerator. my compressor went out after 3 yrs. a repair person came out twice last month to fix the problem. lg has the WORST customer service. each time I called them they told me something different. now when I call I record the conversation. if you miss a call from their liason office, you have to wait for them to call you back. that's if they do call you back.

Please don't waste your money on LG. Had my frig for six years and the compressor went out. Lost all food! I phoned for repair and the cost would be $550+ and guaranteed for 90 days. Friend had same frig. They repaired the compressor four times and it continued to go out. Waste of money!!!

With the WELL KNOWN problems that LG has had with its Linear Compressors - that are well documented online all OVER the place - I do not see why anyone should even consider their refrigerators at all.

@Thommadura4 ай бұрын
@@pennymodern But there has been consistent trouble with THE LG Linear Compressors and it is well documented - and has been the subject of at least two CLASS ACTION SUITES as well. Sorry -there are so many different refrigerators out there that do not have the same problems that an aware consumer can avoid those with bad service reputations easily.

@@pennymodernIt’s really hard to buy a fridge now. I have an LG for 7 years, replaced the compressor in 2nd year. Leaking compressor on 4th year. Needed to replace door gasket 5th year. I like the configuration and roominess it offers and mine is just simple without ice n water dispenser. It’s huge with 30 cf space. I keep another fridge in garage just in case and I have an LG repairman who can repair it faster instead of calling the LG repair service. Try to keep a remote thermometer in the fridge so you know first hand when it starts not working. People said top freezer and side by side are more reliable.
@xcmskim43 ай бұрын
That fridge doesn’t have the linear compressor. LG no longer makes fridges with the linear compressor in 2024. It has a ‘smart inverter compressor’ which is a traditional design.
