Absolutely agree. Refrigerator compartments should never hold ice. At the most, there should only be a simple tap in the refrigerator section of your fridge to increase reliability.

Had an LG french door for 7 years that we purchased new in 2017. Never had an issue with the indoor ice maker. That said we went through 4 compressors during that time.

I think the water dispenser in the door on the freezer side, in a side by side, works reasonably well. In the French door models that isn’t possible, and it is a nightmare.

I bought a GE Profile stove with below warming tray in 2008. Never had a single problem. So satisfied I bought a GE Profile French door fridge with cool water only in 2014. No ice maker. Its now 2024 and they are still going strong!! I paid a lot for them but they are worth it just for the peace of mind. The no maintenance is a bonus extra 😀 👍

Our GE Profile Fridge was installed in 2007. We are now just having to replace it as parts are deteriorating and making it not stay cool/cold enough sometimes. Still freezing but fan no longer circulating and parts are NO longer being made. Haier took GE over around 2015 and I’m guessing that is why its parts are not available pre buyout.

Just got the Bosch fridge after having a lg fridge which I had the compressor changed 3 times in 5 years. Hopefully this fridge doesn't give me that much Grief

Compressor went out on my 3 years old $3000+ Samsung fridge more than 2 weeks ago. They came to replace the compressor a couple days ago. Worked fine when he left. Fridge and freezer was cooling down. Next morning, broken again. Now, I have to wait another week for the part to come in and be replaced yet again. So, it will be more than 3 weeks without a fridge and eating out a lot. I’m tempted to just trash this $3k fridge and go back to an American brand. When you see a lot of negative reviews online about Samsung, believe them.

We bought a new Frigidaire french door refrigerator that makes a very loud continuous buzzing noise from the ice maker's fan which stops when the doors are open. Also, there is no ice on this fan. The repair person stated that all Frigidaire refrigerators make this loud buzzing noise. This noise is persistent, pervasive and extremely annoying and it measured 50 to 55 decibels. We regret this purchase because it is very annoying and can be heard throughout our home"s first floor. Please let us know if this is typical of new Frigidaire refrigerators and if replacing the ice maker’s fan would help. Thanks.

Refrigerators are all about repair or lack of it. The ice maker is, of course, the problem, but if it is located in the freezer, it is has a better chance of surviving. Most repair people would not put an ice maker in at all.

The general consensus we've found is that ice makers are definitely the most issue-prone component of any fridge. We recommend that if you are to get one, you get one that's in the freezer like you said. But for those that don't need one, absolutely just go with a fridge that doesn't have one!

I have a side by side GE from 2009 with ice maker & water dispenser. Have replaced the computer board ($130), damper ($190) and 4 thermistors ($15 ea) and she's still going strong and still looks new. Ice maker has a clear plastic auger and it works amazing. Never a problem and we use it every day.

Prob 2018 2 Ice makers but i was lucky if either one was working i was lucky. Other problem is it stuck 18" into the room I replaced it with a very basic Frigidaire counter depth side by side no dispenser zero issues and half the price

This is something a lot of people agree with! Statistically, they actually aren't any more prone to failure in the fridge than freezer, but they DO take up a lot of space!

Unbelievable! Recommendations are all non-starters based upon each product offered including an indoor ice maker and water dispensing installed in a door. Totally contrary to your own sites recommendation on selecting more reliable products from these same manufacturers. Perhaps, a play to sell extended warranties with these specific models. I don't get it.

But, but other Boulevard Home (BH) videos say to not buy Frigidaire or LG, and recommend against buying anything with "through the door" options. And what about recommending ones with the ice maker in the refrigerator section vs the freezer, didn't BH say this is bad? And even recommending an LG goes against what is said in BH videos that were made in 2024. So much for your credibility. Whirlpool was recommended but that did even make your list.

We have a video explaining just this! LG have started to improve their refrigerators in recent years but costs are still really up there for these name brands for sure!
