As an OLED Engineer, now I can say this, but yes you nailed the basic upgrade made to LG OLED. This change is significant because previously, the panel brightness is compromised by previous configuration, and OLED panels are notoriously low in brightness compared to LCD panels, so this should help increase it

Correction: In the video you said LGs OLED has an efficiency increased of 20%. But if you wanna be more accurate it’s actually 20% of power consumption decrease. Do the math and the real efficiency increase would be 25%.

A couple notes: It might be not all games are supported because there are some games that use features from the Switch [1] Joy-Cons, like the rail (Ring Fit Adventure) or the IR camera (Ring Fit Adventure, 1-2-Switch, Nintendo Labo), or the physical device (Nintendo Labo), which aren't there for the Switch 2. Also, there's an announcement for a Nintendo Direct for April 2nd. I doubt, though, they'll just namedrop the T239, the extremely likely SoC of the device - be it on that Direct or at any point.

The "certain games may not be supported" could really mean anything from "Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, and other games requiring the physical insertion of Joy-Cons or the entire Switch console to a peripheral device may not work too well as everything is larger" to "our N64 emulator is so unfinished we're launching without it and 15% of all Switch games have either hardware or licence issues so you can't play those either". The thing is, if it's the former I wouldn't be surprised if it takes them months to clarify.

Can you clarify what you mean by 'panel?' Because the entire TV set is a panel. The layers of OLED are usually referred to.... as sub pixel layers. LG oled typically uses a Woled panel featuring a 4 pixel arrangement using multiple layers to build a single Oled panel. Samsung is developing their QD oled to use a TWO panel stack, meaning they are layering a second entire panel assembly over the first one, to achieve same brightness with half the power. The aim is to reduce the burn in potential, increase the panel longevity. If LG is adding a an additional sub pixel layer, that is probably different than adding a '4th panel' because I am pretty sure they are using a single panel arrangement still. LG also forces whites through a white pixel layer rather than combining the 3 RBG sub pixel layers to create white - their Woled panel can't actually use all 4 sub pixels in tandem. This is why Samsung QDOLED tends to be superior. Not to say LG is bad, but you will have usage cases where the colors band or the blacks lose texture information because of it. Their own Demo from 2023 was pretty good at showing off both of these issues.

@@ardas77 My 2 minutes of reading the first google result clarifies it's a 4th gen oled panel with a 4 layer sub pixel arrangement, rather than 3. They are trading the Yellow filter for two filters, one red one green. Article also mentions a differential in peak brightness between white and colors, a decent improvement over last generation, but still using a white pixel to balance out the lighting. Mentions QD oled still being brighter overall with better color reproduction without the need of a white pixel layer. Lastly, I want to mention that Samsung is working on improved OLED tech and building a panel by combining the two panel assemblies (think 6 stack?, or 3 + 3) to achieve a brighter picture with less power. They are claiming to achieve approximately half the power consumption or twice the brightness, which could result in a panel tech that is more resistant to oled burn in. If LG does go to market with this new 4 layer arrangement, I wonder how they plan to address burn in, since their displays tend to consume more power and burn in easier. It's a noticeable difference in side by side testing.

Neither Samsung nor LG layer or stack entire panel assemblies together. What they stack together is just the emissive portion of the display while all other parts remain unchanged.

Lg solved blue pholed power problem. To my way of thinking, they messed up they could have blown the competition out of the water by releasing g5 as high-end but not flagship. Stating there's more to come. producing blue pholed panels and releasing them as their flagship later this year. They told everyone, though, that they solved it and how. @@Lauriciu there is no concrete evidence that they have done this in response to the ban these are just allegations, also doing this is totally fine according to the US law so if they are complying by US law how is it wrong? also what do you mean by "using companies that have nothing to do with it" its DJI they are getting banned and they no longer have any obligations to provide services tied to their servers in china like geo blocking if they are getting banned because they technically can't, if people are angry about it perhaps the govt should have rolled out a plan to replace these with US made drones or atleast compensate the users. Also if the drones were banned they would have still lost the geo blocking feature as it's tied to DJI servers, so the likely explanation is that DJI patched this so that their drones were still usable even after the ban. And then another thing people say is that "why didn't they move their servers to the USA" well first its much costlier, second they are being subsidised by the Chinese govt why on earth would they cut off their revenue stream.
