I think Desktop android will never workout. I dont see it. Right now, desktop stuff is heavily windows or macos. Even Linux is a bit behind those 2. Switching to Android from ChromeOS wont lead to major uptick in usage. Google just needs to make its gemini thing actually fully integrated, seamless and super useful. Right now, gemini is bad

who cares about billions of app when most of them are optional, more important are financial, security, office and health apps which makes up of only 10 or less. so ultimately, if the banks and government support the OS, it will work, if all the belt and road countries supports it, it will overtake any western OS eventually, especially when the same OS is also available on the PC or in future cheap RISC-V workstation. a OS that is seamless link to 6G and nearlink. that is the fast future.

I am waiting for a Galaxy S25 "Fat", not "Slim". I don't care if it will be 2 or even 3 mm thicker - it will still protrude the same inside of my pocket. But the optional extra thickness will allow for better camera lenses, a much bigger battery, and an SD card slot. Could be A56.

It's about time! What took Google so long?! Many users asked for that merge for years. Chrome OS out of the box best feature always was to run containers of Debian Linux terminal and Android Google Play Store apps, which btw run very efficiently and with very little performance penalty. On the other hand developing Chrome OS Flex after that which was stripped of Android and Google Play Store was a step into wrong direction. Now seeing Chrome OS finally unified under Android with capability of running both touch and desktop UI is what was asked from Google for years! I just hope they'll execute it correctly and deliver something truly revolutionary worth every penny. Google should uniquely offer with all of their Pixel devices UI choice users prefer either as phone/foldable/tablet or as desktop with larger screen foldable/tablet + laptop or when connected to external screen. Hopefully Google won't screw it up and take the lead of this long anticipated feature which Apple was unwilling to further pursue because they rather prefer their devices locked in their OS environments and artificially differentiated/divided in different markets.

I REALLY like the sound of this idea on paper, but I wonder what that’ll mean for hardware. Will we see more 15-16 inch devices running android; possibly 2 in 1’s? I love the samsung tab ultra, so if more OEMs offer 15 inch detachable tablet/laptops, that would be freaking AWESOME. Hopefully it would be able to encourage devs to craft better apps for big screen android devices.

What happens with Google’s Fuchsia OS?

I use a Chromebook as my primary computer so if they go ahead with this, I think it could be interesting. I already use android apps for as alternatives to Linux and Chrome apps, but if they switched over to android altogether that would ease my concerns regarding the whole Chrome split from Google thing.

For me the android improvements towards laptops were also going to benefit tablets so I'm in for it.

What's the point of starting from Android and then adding all those ChromeOS features to it, instead of just using ChromeOS?

What a security nightmare

Android after after10 is good enough that with few tweaks it can become a proper OS for main devices, with linux apps compatibility especially since alot of people want to ditch Windows.

Is it just me or Why do I feel like the reason google is going android for PC beacuse of HarmonyOS

People making too much fuss about W365 Link. This is just MS variant of thin terminal. For some reason many took it as a mini PC as Mac Mini. Of course, there is also one valid gripe. It is only W365 and no Azure Virtual Desktop support (at least for now).

Microsoft putting more Windows integration into the Meta Quest feels like a bit of a cruel joke after how much fanfare they made about Microsoft VR and HoloLens last decade. Reminds me of those Android devices they farted out a couple of years ago and then immediately pretended didn’t exist.

Microsoft Ignite is for the enterprise user, who RDP/SSH directly to a windows server/linux server and does their work on remote devices. Mac Mini have been used for the exact same purpose for over 10 years in a lot of consultant enterprises. Makes a lot of sense, if Microsoft expect, that the majority of developers in enterprise size corporations move to Azure, then there is really no need for a local device, if all is done remotely on a windows server workstation.

Something I just realised is that Android has a fixed upgrade support cycle, which means eventually this laptop will stop receiving updates. Perhaps custom roms like on Android phones can keep it going longer, or maybe you could just install full Linux on it, but this remains to be seen
